Gen Con 2014 Exclusives

Paizo General Discussion

I have a question about gen con and can't seem to find the proper place to ask it, so I'll ask here and hope to not get a beating. Is there or will there be a list of gen con exclusive items (especially minis) and what we need to do to get them? I was pretty disheartened last year at gen con when I checked out with over $100 in merchandise and asked the nice blue haired guy working the register if there were any gen con exclusive items. He said no there weren't and then I found out later that you were supposed to get a free mini with any purchase over $50. I also found out there were other minis available. So a list of what will be there and how to get them would be awesome.

Erik Mona announced 12 exclusive Pathfinder Minimates available at GenCon. They're going to be all over the con, and the city, so if Minimates are your thing, you are going to have a lot of leg work ahead of you. There would be one exclusive to Scotty's Brewery, another exclusive to another restaurant, one you would need to score a critical hit at the PFS treasure chest. He also went into a few details about the different exclusive Minimates: there will be a Razmiran priest, a Licktoad tribe goblin, and KonKrud, the sickly goblin that was a con exclusive last PaizoCon.

I have no interest in the minimates, just the gaming miniatures and maps. Thanks a lot for the help, I will keep searching for more info on the exclusive miniatures. If I get some minimates I'm sure my kids will like them.

Ryan,

Can you link where Erik announced the 12 minimates and where all the locations of the promos will be at?

I looked at the original PFB blog post when he announced the Minimates, but it only says there will be 12 of them at GenCon and doesn't name them (except the first four being released in October).

Stay tuned for a full checklist on the MiniMates and how to get them. Good photos of all of them are imminent, and without that a big post on it sort of loses its oomph.

We'll have a unique Pathfinder Battles figure as a sales promotion, given free with any purchase of $50 or more. (An exclusive Minimate kicks in with purchases of $100 or more).

We also have plans to distribute at least one more figure via more mysterious means somewhere at the con. You're going to have to be at the right place at the right time for this one, I'm afraid. It's a surprise.

We always keep back significant quantities of all promotional miniatures for later sale on Paizo.com. We realize not everyone will be at the show, so missing out won't mean missing the miniature entirely, as long as you pay attention to the website.

Erik,

Thanks for the info.

Is there any kind of hint you can give for that ‘mysterious’ mini? At least for what day it will be available?

Thanks Erik

Is that mystery mini a minimate or a miniature?

Sure, Hobbun. Erik announces it in the second half of the banquet: video

Ah yes, of course, should have figured the info was from PaizoCon. I was assuming (incorrectly) Erik made a post somewhere on the forums.

Thanks Ryan.

Erik, when you do put out the list for the 12 minimate promos and where you can find them, will that be part of a PFB blog or will it have it’s own thread under the miniatures section?

Lantern Lodge

I'm interested in all the Goblin minimates, I hope there isn't too much hoop jumping involved to get them at the con.

We'll have a couple of promo cards for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, though neither one is, strictly speaking, exclusive. One is our general convention promo for August through January, which means you'll also be able to get it at PAX Prime and other places—at Gen Con, you can get it by demoing the card game (or just asking nicely). The other is the August promo, which we're also sending out to retailers; you can get that when you buy a Skull & Shackles Base Set. (We'll also be sending both of those promo cards—and a few others—to PACG subscribers with the August shipment.)

Grand Lodge

Vic I am actually disappointed Con of the North (Feb) here in MN was not able to get any promo cards for the ACG RotRL for it earlier this year despite the fact I emailed someone about it several times before the convention :(

I was trying to promote the card game as much as possible at the Pathfinder Society event we had going on there the entire weekend. I was even able to get several card games going too. :(

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Mike Brock has established standards about prize support for conventions, but this past year, they didn't really take PACG into account as much as they probably should have. Now that we have a proper OP program for the card game, that should be changing.

Any chance that if I bring my melted face Feiya or other horribly mutilated minis to the Paizo or Wizkids booths at Gen Con, of getting them replaced with an acceptable one? I am thinking about making a portable display of all of the terribly painted Pathfinder minis and hanging around the Wizkids booth so people can see the junk they are really going to get, not the nicely painted ones that are always advertised.

Grand Lodge

Brell I can understand being a bit bitter... but being vindictive is not always a good thing either. I have bought cases of each of the Pathfinder Miniatures and I agree that while not all have been painted to my satisfaction, I am not worried that they will not show well on the table when I am using them.. yes I even got one of the bad Feiya miniatures and have had people STILL want her too as one of their figures and or to use her on the table.

I am not saying don't be upset or even telling you what to do at all. But being vindictive is never usually the answer at all. Either way I wish you luck sir!

I don't see how I am being vindictive at all. Erik said that the Freiya mini is unacceptable and that he was working with Wizkids for some sort of resolution. All I am asking is since I will be at gen con, could I get my unacceptable minis replaced. It would be a great way to do it as I could show then how bad they are and they could decide if they are as bad as I say they are or if I am just being too picky. My complaint is against Wizkids way more than it is against Paizo. Customer service of the high level of paizo's is rarely seen. Although I think Paizo should dump wizkids and find a better mini supplier. I know it is possible, look at the sculpt quality and paint detail on the Rackham Confrontation prepainted minis that are even cheaper than Pathfinder or D&D minis. I just got my new set of the D&D miniatures starter set today and it is greatly lacking in painting quality as well. Pathfinder and D&D need to dump Wizkids as soon as their contracts allow.

I am constantly baffled by how many people come to the defense of these poorly painted minis by calling those of us who complain things like vindictive. How can a person pay $300-$400 for a box of little plastic men and be happy with them being just ok. It's not like you are paying a few bucks for a bag of army men. For the large amounts of money we spend on these minis we should all expect a certain standard of sculpt and paint quality that is met consistently, not just a box of hit or miss melted faced minis with eyes on their foreheads and paint just randomly applied in the wrong areas. Not to mention Wizkids has no clue how to apply a wash or even what colors to wash with and should just stop attempting it.

As for going to the Wizkids booth with my bad minis and showing people what they are really going to get, how is that vindictive? They are the ones falsely representing what you are going to get. If it wasn't such a small market and it was more of a every household item, they would have been hit with a false advertisement case by now.

If you don't mind paying a lot of money for substandard products, more power to you, but don't say I'm vindictive just because I want what is advertised and the quality that I pay for.

We're working with WizKids to address the situation with the Feiya miniature from Reign of Winter. They have some very exciting and equitable solutions in mind to get better versions of the figure into the hands of customers, but they involve logistical details that have not quite been worked out yet. Keep your eyes on the Friday Publisher Preview blogs for updates as soon as we get them from WizKids.

I'm also curious as to how I can get a hold of a Hellfire Wisp promo mini as well.

Thanks for the update Sara, I still say you dump Wizkids as soon as contracts allow. The Paizo standard of quality seems much higher than Wizkids'.

I think they said some leftovers might end up for sale on this site. I know I'm keeping an eye out. That is a nice mini.

I sent you an email.

I really was hoping to hear something by now in regards to an announcement on what sort of resolution there will be.

However, the more I hear about how ‘complicated’ this is going to be, the more it confirms for me that there is going to be a reprint and some sort of replacement program with Feiya. And I don’t believe it will be the type of replacement program that WizKids already has set up through their website (and is pretty lousy, IMO), which is one of the reasons why I think this is taking longer.

I really hope there is more to it than this, though. Some kind of confirmation or change in procedure that will prevent future Feiyas, Queen Illeosas or Queen Elvannas. Because however much I would be happy to have Feiya replaced, it’s not something I want to go through each time when there is a truly bad paint/sculpt job.

Please give us some legitmate assurance, usually a change through procedure or protocol (i.e. better QC), that we are going to get some kind of consistency in regards to quality with future minis, as well.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

We're not going to say anything about it until we have definitive answers to the questions we know everyone is going to ask. Please be patient.

some information in the latest Gen Con email

"The goblin horde is taking over Gen Con 2014! Help rein them in by hunting down and capturing the mischievous monsters at locales all around Indianapolis before total havoc ensues!

Collectible goblin Mini Mates, a goblin pirate mask, goblin promo cards for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, and a Pathfinder Battles goblin mini are on the loose and need to be reunited with the goblin horde. Each time you capture a goblin, take a photo of the little beast and post it to social media with the tag #GOBLINHORDE to be featured on the Paizo Facebook and Twitter feeds! There are at least eight goblins to capture, and they can be found at Paizo booth #203 in the Gen Con Exhibit Hall, Pathfinder Society events in the Sagamore Ballroom, Scotty's Brewhouse, and the Munchkin Tavern (Tavern on the South)."

Where is the Munchkin Tavern?

I need to figure out which of those locations has the pathfinder battles mini. I hope it is at the pathfinder society games since I signed up for a few of those. They said there was a battles mini for spending over 50 bucks at the paizo booth, don't know if it is the goblin though. If I get any minimates (which I don't want) I'm sure my kids will find a place for them. I know Scottys Brewhouse, but will have to find the munchkin place. Scottys is always packed with a huge wait during gen con, hope I don't have to order anything to get the mini.

Lantern Lodge

The Munchkin Tavern is over by the Holiday Inn express, kinda at the corner of the stadium and the steam factory.

The Munchkin Tavern and Scotty's Brewhouse figures are limited-edition goblin Minimates, and are for sale for $5 each.

Another Minimate will be available through the prize/token program in the Pathfinder Society area (Sagamore Ballroom).

Another Minimate is available free with a $100 purchase at the Paizo booth in the exhibit hall (Booth 203).

The booth will also have a limited edition Goblin Raider Pathfinder Battles repaint available free with a $50 purchase.

The "mystery item" is also a Pathfinder Battles figure. I don't want to reveal more about it at this time.

Lantern Lodge

Thanks Eric! Any idea on quantity available, limit on purchase (one per customer please!), or certain number per day?

I really want to find that mystery figure, I just hope I don't end up wasting half my time at gen con trying to find it. Hope there are obvious clues as I can be a bit of a block head.

Lantern Lodge

How do you know you want it if you don't know what it is? :)

"The "mystery item" is also a Pathfinder Battles figure. I don't want to reveal more about it at this time."

"At this time" would indicate it will be reveled later, maybe they're still deciding how to distribute it.

I had no idea there was a forum,on the paizo website...mind blown or rather lack of mindfulness demonstrated.

Anyway, hello folks. I've seen a lot you aren't interested in the PF minimates, I personally love the look of the ones that have been announced. Anyone care to sell me their's? I cannot make it to Gencon this year despite having tickets and living approximately 13 minutes away. Work is evil.

Any how, if anyone is able to do this for me, please let me know!

Sorry if I messed up on any rules, this is literally my first post.

Paizo Employee Publisher, Chief Creative Officer

All of our Pathfinder minimates, and all of the promotional miniatures we release at Gen Con, will eventually be available (in limited quantities) on paizo.com.

I know they will but in the past I usually miss web store items that are limited. My internet access is sometimes limited to one week a month ( work ). Thank you for the feedback!

I'm trying to figure out, when will the event happen in which future products and Adventure Paths from Paizo will be revealed/discussed? I'm not going to be able to come but I will like to know so I can check back on the messageboards afterwards about it.

When they announce future products is the seminar “Future of Paizo Publishing”, and that is on Saturday this year. Which is a little different as they normally have had that on the first day, maybe as late as Friday before.

Will the Scotty's and Munchkin minimates be available on the Wednesday before GenCon?

Went around and got all the minimates, had to go to tavern on the south twice because the first time I went there the manager looked at me like I was a moron when I asked about it and said he didn't even know who paizo is. Second time the munchkin people squared me away. Spent over 100 after an hour in line to get into booth then another half hour in checkout line. Even with my complete goblin collection and spending over 100 at booth, I couldn't get any paizo employee to say they knew anything about this "mystery battles mini". Only battles mini I got was the goblin with torch. Could have swore I saw a box of hellfire wisps behind the counter when I grabbed a couple goblin masks for the kids, but like a thirsty man seeing water in mirages I was probably just imagining things. If there was some mystery figure I hope paizo sells it on site soon, because there was no way to find it at gen con.

Sczarni

Everyone who was playing in the special friday night got a battles mini after paizo announced to the crowd which Ennies they had won. (it's talked about in the know direction gencon wrapup podcast)
