Spell Strike and SR

Rules Questions

If you fail to penetrate SR do you still get to hit?

I cast a frostbite as part of a spell strike and fail to beat the monsters spell resistance, does that mean I can't have the attack that would have delivered the spell?

Spellstrike says " Instead of the free melee touch attack normally allowed to deliver the spell, a magus can make one free melee attack with his weapon (at his highest base attack bonus) as part of casting this spell. If successful, this melee attack deals its normal damage as well as the effects of the spell."

You make your melee attack with your weapon. If you hit, your weapon does damage normally. THEN you apply the effects of the spell (including any check for SR or energy resistance). Failing to beat SR does not negate the previously resolved melee weapon attack. The spell is a 'rider' effect that is resolved only if the melee weapon attack connects.

That's what I thought but it was one of those situations where the more I thought about it (without access to the book or internet) the more convinced I was that the SR would make the attempt fail.

Cheers
