Elf Cleric Questions (new player)

Advice

So i just recently started playing Pathfinder Society and am currently using a Half-Elf Paladin. I wanted to have a caster character as well so i decided i wanted to create an Elf Cleric and was really looking for some help to create an optimal build. Im not sure what the 20 points should go towards as far as the ability scores go, and would just like some input on what people think are good ideas, i was thinking of going with Chaotic Good for my Alignment and i also wanted some input on what dietes are good for clerics. let me know any suggestions, thanks!

What do you want your cleric to do? Do you want to be primarily a melee cleric, or focus on buffing allies and debuffing foes? There is a good guide a the top of the Advice Forum.

Chaotic Good has some great choices for deities. As Theconiel says, it does depend on what you want to do though. Cayden Cailean and Desna both have great domains - Travel, Luck and Liberation are fantastic.

I'd recommend reading through Tark's Big Holy Book of Clerical Optimization for ideas on build, stats and so on. As an Elf you may want to consider being an archer cleric though to take advantage of the Dex bonus and racial proficiencies.

I will say this- Desna is usually a solid deity for a Chaotic Good Cleric. While her favored weapon is *meh* (which shouldn't matter to an elf, since they automatically have proficiency in longswords, rapiers, and longbows, or 'a bit of everything you would want for all the basic fighting styles'), but her domains are fantastic.

There is:
-luck (rerolls are fairly powerful in PF)
-chaos (force the enemy to reroll, but take the worse result; save or suck wizards will love you)
-good (a bit meh compared to the rest, but fairly useful none the less)
-liberation (a certain number of rounds of Freedom of movement per day, whenever you want)
-travel (+10 to your movement speed, or 'hey, I can keep up with everyone, even if full plate').

And all that is just me simplifying things; each has other abilities and give you interesting options with domain spells. Plus, I am not even getting into subdomains at all. Since the basic cleric can pick 2 of those domains....you can see how she work well as a choice for CG clerics.

Definitely read some of the cleric guides. The are sticky at the very top of this Advice section. How you select your attributes, and which deity you follow, depends strongly on what kind of cleric you want to play. Some sample cleric types:

1. Support caster. The 'standard' cleric.

2. Beatstick combat monster cleric.

3. Offensive Caster cleric

4. Debuff-focussed (aka Bad Touch) cleric

5. Channeling focussed cleric

6. Archery cleric

These approaches are not described in the rule books, one must figure them out. Different cleric types may as well be different classes. Each of the above approaches requires a very different set of attributes. E.g. The Offensive Caster clerics wants high Wisdom for good DCs and doesn't need Strength. E.g. The beatstick combat monster cleric wants high Strength and just enough Wisdom to cast spells.
