3 point buy build challenge

So I was messing around with the NPC stat array and realized that by point buy rules you would literally have a 3 point buy! So I was wondering if anyone can dream up any interesting or at least slightly challenging builds on a 3 point buy?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You can totally build a wizard using 3 point buy.
Human: STR: 8 DEX: 12 CON: 12 INT: 16 (+2 racial) WIS: 8 CHA: 8

By going to 7 you could get an even "better" build.
Take eschew materials as a feat. You don't need armor or a meaningful weapon so the str 8 weight limit should not be too crippling.

Str 8 int 15 con 12 rest 10 wizard (admixture) invoker. Human.
Str 16 con 14 int 7 wis 12 dex 10 cha 8, barbarian. Versatile human.
Con 12 int 12 str 7 cha 16 dex 10 wis 8 red dragon blooded Half orc sorcerer.
All stats 10 exept cha 15 Half elf bard
Str 10 con 12 dex 10 wis 15 int 10 cha 8 dwarf cleric.
I Think Mainly ranger, paladin and monk is gonna be hard.
The low point buy May force feats like toughness and weapon focus on most builds but i dont Think it Will ruin the Game.
Edit: to remove mistake

Could work for a ranger as well. Perhaps exchange con and wis.

Syntethist anyone?

You can build the synth with every point buy. And the lower you go the better it gets at ruining other player's fun.

Cheater...

I'd favor a ranger. You could get a decent switch hitter out of this with the bonus combat style feats. Level 1 you're basically just a crotchety fighter with power attack and a couple skills. By second level you've got a decent shot w/a bow and you're still viable in melee. As you go on in the game look for ways to up your Dex for the one-two punch of upping your ranged attack bonus and AC.

Yeah that really isn't that bad on a 3 point buy.

Now what about more of the non human builds?

Or better yet what about a non completely useless build for say a commoner suffering under the same stricture?

Str 15 dex 10 con 12 int 10 wis 12 cha 7 human Commoner
Feats: Imperial conscript, Additional traits

Traits: Rough and ready, militia veteran

Nice dude very cool. Where is Imperial conscript from? Also what traits you giving him?

The feat taldan conscript is from Pathfinder Companion: Taldor, Echoes of Glory. But it is listed on d20pfsrd under imperial conscript

The traits are listed in my posting (normally NPC classes do not gain traits, so I took the feat to get them).
The second trait is more or less fluff. I just needed the first to be able to use a peasant tool (like a tool-flail or a pitchfork) without the improvised penalty.

All in all the commoner would be at +3 to hit and +3 to damage. That should be ok for 1st level.

Whoops didn't catch that on the first read. Looking now.

Anyone interested in giving one of their 3 point builds a try might want to check out the pbp I'm starting up. Want to do a 1 shot who's results directly effect my home game.
