Qinggong Monk Retraining Ki Power

Rules Questions

In PFS, can a Qinggong Monk retrain a ki power using
the retraining rules (yes, Ultimate Campaign is owned).

This is an excellent question that I would like to know the answer to as well. Bumping it to see if we can get any responses since the OP is almost 2 months old.

Are you asking if the Ultimate Campaign Retrain rules allow Qinggong Monk retrain a ki power?

Or if specifically PFS allows it?

I don't have either the Ultimate Campaign or the archetype in front of me, but I can tell you if Ultimate Campaign does allow it then PFS allows it. If it doesn't allow it then there are no special PFS rules that would allow it.

If you are unsure if it is allowed by Ultimate Campaign Retrain rules, then this is a rules question and should be posted in the Rules Forums.

Ultimate Campaign allows for retraining class features. Ki powers are class features. So yes.

I believe (not in a position to cite chapter and verse) that the Quinggong swap outs still count as 'class feature choices' and will fall under that category for retraining, costing the appropriate Prestige (5 I believe) and appropriate gold costs.

I agree that the Rules forum would be the better place for the OP as it is asking if Retraining covers Qinggong ki powers (and PFS generally follows whatever ruling PF proper does). Unfortunately I looked in the rules forum and didn't see anything, but ran across this here. So in essence, I bumped it to see if a response followed.

The Retraining rules for monks specifically says to look at the subsection discussing Feats. It makes no mention of other class features. Thus my confusion. Perhaps an oversight? Or perhaps I'm just reading too literally into things? Either way, the answer was unclear.

Specifically my question would be could I, at 8th level, retrain Wholeness of Body in exchange for an 8th level ki power? The question actually entails 2 parts.

A; Are ki powers retrainable?

B; Can a lower-level monk feature be surrendered for a higher level ki power?

Where this stems from is an interest in a Zen Archer/Qinggong. However without the ability to retrain, a PFS version of this would be limited to two Level 4 and a Level 6 ki powers as Diamond Body is already used and cannot be reused to grab either a Level 8 or 10 power.

But again, this is something for the rules forum since the answers there would be the same answers here.

I just stumbled upon this thread as well. From previous discussions, I'd thought that a Qinggong monk could not delay taking a ki power, and thus a PFS legal Qinggong monk would be limited to 2x Level 4 powers and 1x Level 6 power as Elbedor said above.

However, I've been looking into character retraining, and with feats, you can retrain an old feat and replace it with a new feat that you qualify for at the time of retraining.

Extrapolating from this FAQ response, I think that retraining is the ONLY way that you could retrain Wholeness of Body for a higher level ki power, such as an 8th level ki power.

However, there are two problems:
1) I'm not sure whether extrapolation is sufficient to allow retraining lower level ki abilities for higher level ones, and
2) as Elbedor pointed out, the retraining of class features for monks only says "See retraining feats," which means that retraining ki powers might not be allowed.

If you were super desperate, I think you could theoretically do archetype retraining twice, and retrain OUT of Qinggong monk and then back INTO it... though that seems sort of excessive.
