I felt like posting up my efforts so far in SWtoR.

I just spent an entire evening doing the [+10 to all stats] datacron run... Damn... Nice end prize but what a pain getting there.

They place the first key deep in a 50+ level area where since half the group was below 50 meant long hours trying to herd the lowbees out to get the key. And while most of this was likely caused by our own disorganized approach it was still annoying watching them die over and over again.

The second key was easy to get from the museum itself. Then we herded our cats (I mean players) into the catwalks and switches part were all chaos reigned. What is probably a very easy trial of flipping switches in order was complicated by the fact the you NEED 7 or 8 people at switches to do this at all and at least one of them MUST be a Jedi Sage and as many of you as possible should have the mggs gun. All this being done across a bottomless pit filled with narrow catwalks and scaffolding; one mistake by one person and you ALL have to start over.

By the end I think we all wanted the programmer (clearly a diabolical Sith lord) to suffer horribly.

Sounds like some interesting info. Can ask which server you are on?

I am playing Merwynn on the Jedi Covenant server.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I hate the jumping/balancing s$$~ in that game with a passion. It's not Super Mario or Tomb Raider or whatever, it's a story-based killing game. Stop trying to make it into something else!
Since I am the single worst jumper/balancer in the history of the game, I have left a lot of datacrons untouched by any character, and some I've only bothered to do once just to annoy the hell out of me.

I am pretty close to you on the jumping part. Several of the datacrons had me beating my head against the desk because of the difficulty level. Still, I am a lore nerd so I made a point of getting them all on every character. Still, I can not get the image out of my mind, where it took me four tries to get a jump down, while watching my nephew nail the same jump three times in a row.

+1. I hate that feeling, but want to know the lore stuff as well. Once spent way too much time getting one while my teammate was being way more patient than he should have been.

The Tatooine datacon where you need to ride the balloon is terrible. I remember making the jump and then I got hit with lag while riding the damn thing and ended up on the desert.

Oh man - that taxi blimp. I missed the jump off the blimp twice in a row one when I'd first discovered it was a ride-able thing. I don't know why jumping is so hard!

And heaven forbid you fall asleep on the 3 hour tour that is the balloon ride itself- then you fall to the desert and get to do it allll over again.

I finally tried the Jawa Balloon ride on Tatooine after avoiding it for my first several characters. I was unaware that if I waited to jump too long I would end up on a part of the sandcrawler that was divided from the part that had the datacron.

ARRRRGGGHHHH!

Fortunately, a very kind soul playing an Imp Agent came along and "blasted" me up to the section I needed for the Matrix shard datacron in just a few tries but we were never able to get me to the Strength datacron which is what I actually could use since I was playing a Sith Warrior.

I pretty much avoid the jumping/platforming datacrons in the game because they are just too much of a pain in the butt to secure for such little advantage. I think I once spent about 40 minutes trying to get that datacron in the Works section of (Nar Shaddaa or Coruscant, cant remember which one). I only go after ones that involve Matrix shards at this point.

I haven't played in almost a year now, But I remember that one in the pipes on Coruscant being terrible. Maybe I'll play again. I haven't finished the story on my Imperial Agent or Consular, and my Consular had hit 50 when I quit.

Oh yeah - that pipe one is a beating. Took a me a few tries and some very slooow crawling to not fall off that little pipe section.

Sith side datacron on Corellia is the worst. Jump down 20 ft to land on a tiny robot's head, ride it for a bit, then jump onto an I beam.

Each failure is a death.

Grand Lodge

I'm playing on Ebon Hawk. STILL trying to find a goup to get my Star Forger armor, I'm on the last heroic quest and cant find a group to save my life.

I play Sith side on Jedi Covenant.

Dark Archive

Still not as bad as doing Exar Kun in swg. Stupid hands of hate.

I've never even gone after a datacron on Corellia with any of my characters. At that point, the game is almost over (story-wise, that is) and I am just "sprinting" to the finish line.

After I hit 50 on my Sorc, I went and got all of them. Took a few days, but I've got them all but the Makeb ones.

Most of the datacrons are easy to get... if you know where to find them. Pipe hoping seems to be my strong suit.

Anyone still playing this? Brand new expansion has been out for a bit. Hitting up a free account re-activate (if possible).

Still wasting time on it. The story in Eternal Throne was much better than Fallen Empire. Much tighter, and the chapters flowed naturally from one to the other. No real surprises or twists, other than that bit with Arcann, but otherwise quite enjoyable. I'm liking the Galactic Command in general, but why does pvp grant so much more cxp than flashpoints or heroics?

Talking Greek with "Galactic Command" onwards. SWTOR n00b here.

Sovereign Court

I play my 6 toons from time to time. Still think the Jedi Knight storyline is the most engaging story I've played in a game.

Galactic Command is the new endgame structure. Flashpoints, ops, heroics, replaying KotFE and KotET chapters and uprisings (mini flashpoints with heavy action content), granting Command Experience Points. CXP increases your Galactic Command rank, and each rank grants you a loot box with a random but mostly usable selection of gear, pets, speeders, schematics and companion gifts. Ranks are divided into tiers and the higher the tier, the better the drops.
No commendations/data crystals any more, just GC.

And they got rid of Expertise so noob pvpers (like yours truly) wanting to try it out don't have to grind for two sets of gear. Cue much whining from certain PVPers and comments of "Finally!" from the rest of us.

It's been a lot of fun so far as a n00b. Free-to-play can be restrictive though, check out the limitations before going in.

I found it work-with-able for the starter world. As things progress the inherent limitations can be irksome - but they are manageable.

Since those perusing these boards know bunches of other people on these boards, I encourage any interested parties to hit up their preferred Paizonian that plays SWTOR for a referral linky. Everyone benefits, much the same way that people benefit when doing the same thing for WoW (which last I heard has a fairly robust Paizonian presence).

Details on the referral program to be better informed.

Finding the Counselor storyline very engaging. Enough that my 2nd character will be a Jedi Knight.

It's Star Wars - without the iconic lightsaber the novelty is not quite the same. Not to get things started at least. YMMV *grin*

I liked Chapter 2 of Consular, but found the others lacking. Chapter to was the only really diplomatic storyline (for very lightsaber heavy definitions of diplomacy).
Imperial Agent is hands down the best story. Intrigue, betrayal, conspiracies and politics, as well as trying to aid the war effort. It's like they put all their effort into writing the Agent well and didn't have as much time for the other classes.

Is the game still free?
My Jedi topped out in the low 40s before she couldn't advance any further; since stealth and pipe hopping only get you so far.
My Sith lightning user also topped out in the low 40s... this seems to have been intentional to force the free players to pony up or get out with that last jump in difficulty and the free play XP gain and gear penalty.

Later they fixed the leveling system and I had a blast leveling up a Republic Trooper all the way to her story ending. Yay! But I never much wanted to grind all that same content to level another story path. So I haven't been playing.

But if they added something that free play can have fun with I may show back up.

You can play the main storyline of each class free and the changes made in 4.0 (last expansion before this one) make solo pve play very easy (read: unchallenging in the slightest). I think the level cap for all players, ftp included, is 70, but don't quote me on it. You can always ignore the planet quests and do only class quests and a few FPs to round out the levels.

Endgame content is still sub only, I believe. I think KOTFE is free, though.

Man, Bjørn has the right of it about the Agent storyline - that one in particular was amazing. There's a boss fight you can actually talk your way through without it ever coming to blows. That was INCREDIBLE!

Jedi Knight was also extremely good, especially at the end of the class story.

That sounds really, really cool. Looking forward to it!

Appears to be 2 modes of play you can choose: story, and veteran. Being a SWTOR n00blet, I'm doing story. For now.

KOTFE has an option for returning players to jump in feet first at 65th level for 1 character from what I can tell.
