Dual Wielding Double Barreled Pistols and Full Attacks

Rules Questions

Sczarni

I have a Gunslinger 5/Alchemist 2 with the extra arm discovery.

This means he can dual wield pistols and reload them with alchemical cartridges and the Rapid Reload feat, allowing a full attack.

It looks like I should be able to do this with double barreled pistols as well, as each barrel is a free action to reload.

Using both barrels with each attack I should be able to get eight attacks at 7th level, at a -6 penalty to hit.

Does this work, or am I missing something?

Nope, pretty much how it works.

*sigh*

Yes, it works, but your misfire rate is rather large, and until you can negate it you will rarely ever get to fire off all shots in a round.

Some GMs also rule that a dual misfire from one gun will "wreck" it, though it's ambiguous as to what actually happens.

But, seriously, just use the Search function. This discussion is rather common.

It does work, but it should only be done if the other players are very optimized.

And check with your GM before trying it - many will be fine about you using it; others will say no.

It's totally legitimate as far as the rules are concerned except for a FAQ which suggests limiting the number of free actions per round to eg 6. This limit was suggested because of similar attempts to achieve this without the extra arm.

-8, AFAICT. -4 from double barrels, -4 for TWF with one-handed weapons. Pistols aren't actually light weapons.

And if you wish to deal decent damage output, you will probably even use Deadly Aim which adds more to the penalty. There is also Soft Cover which you probably won't be able to negate as gunslinger since you will never reach Improved Precise Shot.

All in total, there is bunch of penalties. A reasonable GM might increase reload time on double-barreled pistols since they contain 2 barrels, but this is going into house-rules area.
