Eh.. no one showed up; people kept saying they were getting ready for 'con' and all that. As if that's a valid excuse...

Hi Mark. One of my PCs has a velociraptor AC and after looking at the stats on that thing it seems unbalanced when compared to other listed ACs in the core book.

I'm fine and can roll with it. But do you think the raptor got inflated from the Jurrasic Park movies?

On a side note as my druid player is asking; when an animal has an attack like 2 claws is it always assumed to be using 2 separate claws, or could it be the same claw twice?

Raptors and big cats are kind of overpowered when looking at the CRB companions, yeah. Jurassic Park may well have had an influence, though I believe the Bestiary correctly notes that the deinonychus is the bigger, smarter one from Jurassic Park (Crichton just liked the name velociraptor better). When you have two claws, that means separate claws. If you have greater magic fang, you'd need to enhance each claw separately.

Reposting this as it looks like it got missed in the OA flurry

Hey Mark,

Are there any plans to do anything with the elemental races (Suli, Ifrit and such) in relation to the new classes? Specifically the Kineticist? Seems to me they would be exceptionally perfect fits for class but right now their elemental affinity ability doesn't sync well with it.

Also, any chance of getting updated character sheets for the new classes? My kineticist sheet is awfully cramped.

Thanks

I'm not sure who did the character sheets, but I doubt more will come. That said, someone might be awesome and do a fan kineticist sheet at some point!

I'd say play the race that you think is the coolest! Undines in particular are quite good hydrokineticists. It's actually a major sorrow of mine with the current status quo that the current race mechanics (and particularly overpowered favored class bonuses that sometimes show up for one particular race on one particular class) make people feel like they would be in trouble if they played the race/class combo they wanted to play :(

Re: Kineticist, is Gather Power intended to apply only to Simple/Composite blasts with or without Infusions? It uses an otherwise undefined term ("blast wild talents").

Specific question on that: am I right in assuming that you should not be able to Gather Power for Kinetic Healer?

Oh bother, it looks like both of the threads on this in the rules forum where I deleted the post with quotes of OA and answered the question aren't visible. Somehow I've seen threads with the OP removed that still were visible, but maybe things changed.

First Question: Check the last sentence of the infusion ability (they add to the blast's cost).

Second Question: :( You could never use gather power on kinetic healer. Followers of my thread and/or the kineticist thread can attest to my overall sadness level about this question (the editors removed the word blast, which I had included, from the playtest document, thus leading to the biggest issues for any of our playtests that has ever been caused by a single word, as most people didn't check the Jason post with all the updates).

Funny enough, I specifically quoted as little as possible to avoid that problem while still conveying the linguistics issue directly. It's rather difficult to talk rules without quotes, after all, particularly when trying to parse that sort of text.

It makes sense from a consistency standpoint why you wouldn't be able to GP for Kinetic Healer given that all other healing is limited in some fashion (except that one fire-related feat that has a campaign errata for PFS, that is). I just wanted to confirm that before we start seeing millions of Kineticists at tables. :-)

Even though it is possibly my #1 pet peeve question (due to how many times people asked it on the kineticist thread, thus also indicating that lots and lots of people were just doing it wrong and not coming on the thread to ask), it's by far worth it if millions of kineticists start appearing at tables!

The other part about blasts and infusions is a great question too, by the way; it's why I answered it while deleting the post, intending for it to be viewable (oops!)

Yeah, I was initially confused looking at Supercharge myself since it skipped 'blast', but I presumed it was still under the normal Gather Power restrictions and that was not an attempt to lift them after examining the wording.

Moving away from the kineticist, as much as I like it, I have a question about the Medium; specifically, how important is the whole Favored Location aspect? It seems...a bit difficult for the typical traveling adventurer. I'll wager most urban ones wouldn't have any trouble, but for someone trudging through the wilderness, it seems like you'd have to keep hunting for a sacred grove or a place somewhere violent happened to get a spirit. Do you think it would break anything if a medium could continue to bind the same spirit repeatedly without having to keep heading to similar locations, or even just remove the need for a favored location altogether? Or am I missing something?

(I mean, I guess you could just go relic channeler, but still, it seems like an issue.)

Gosh I hope this book is put on thePRD so my group will start considering using it.

It will make its way to the PRD for sure, guaranteed, as normal for all Pathfinder RPG line books! Until then, consider gifting your GM the pdf; our pdf prices for that line of books are incredibly discounted, since we want to get the rules out to all of you in the best way possible. Plus, you get pictures that won't be on the PRD like the laser beam flumph!
Is it still the plan to put Unchained on PRD?
I guess so. That's more of a web team thing rather than creative team, and design team is a subteam of creative team, so it's far enough away from me that I can't really say when it would be, but I can be sure that it is the plan.

Ah. Thanks.

Bones Oracle "Raise the Dead" revelation...how does it work? Is it always a 1 HD human skeleton/zombie that gets more HD, or can you choose monsters from the Bestiary (for example), give them the skeleton/zombie template, and just pick monsters of appropriate HD?

Another druish question as I couldn't see if its been answered in a FAQ. Do druids qualify for imp natural attack/natural armor feats via the wild shape ability? Seems like they should be able to after gaining wild shape.

Hi Mark,

Steadfast Personality has two different entries in the ACG errata.

Quote:
In the Steadfast Personality entry, change the Benefits entry to “Use your Charisma modifier on saves against mind-affecting effects”.
Quote:
In the Steadfast Personality feat, change the Benefit section to “Benefit: Add your Charisma modifier instead of your Wisdom bonus on Will saves. If you have a Wisdom penalty, you must apply both your Wisdom penalty and your Charisma modifier.”

The first seems to modify the feat table entry, the second the body text. Which, if either, is the right one?

I would really love to be able to make a mysterious stranger gunslinger who focuses on deadshot, since the archetype seems to be built for it. However, there are a lot of unanswered questions as to how the deadshot ability works with other feats and equipment.

How does the Gunslingers deadshot ability work in regards to feats / abilities that give you extra attacks (rapid shot, haste, etc)? Is the number of attacks for deadshot based solely on base BAB attacks or do these abilities grant extra attacks for deadshot?

How do double weapons work with deadshot? Since you are actually shooting 2 bullets, are you rolling up two sets of deadshots that could independently crit or do all attacks get rolled into one effective damage pool?

Hi Mark!

Question about <circle of death>.

Circle of Death wrote:
The spell slays 1d4 HD worth of living creatures per caster level (maximum 20d4). Creatures with the fewest HD are affected first; among creatures with equal HD, those who are closest to the burst's point of origin are affected first. No creature of 9 or more HD can be affected, and HD that are not sufficient to affect a creature are wasted.

Let's assume I cast the spell at CL 10. Is it the case:

(1) that all living creatures in the area roll a saving throw, but the spell can only kill up to 10d4 HD worth of creatures; or,

(2) that only 10d4 HD worth of creatures have to save-or-die?

For example. Imagine the spell's area encompasses 3 creatures with 8 HD each, and I roll up 20 HD on my 10d4. Is it the case (1) that all 3 of the creatures must save, but I can only kill up to 2 of them; or, (2) that only 2 of the creatures have to save?

At the risk of being repetitive, as I don't want to wade through 2,600+ posts...

How is your last name pronounced? I know I heard it said at Paizocon this year, but it didn't stick. Thanks to my high school German, I want to pronounce it with a long "i" sound.

Mark, can you please offer suggestions to save my (PFS) Red Mantis Assassin character?

I'm trying very hard to not be overly dramatic. It is a well-liked character, and if I would love to be able to continue playing her.

It might not even sting quite so much if I were allowed to rebuild her—at least then I could try to put together a Str-based version of her—but the only thing I am allowed to change about her is the Slashing Grace feat.

Sovereign Court

The Trickster spirit bonus in OA says it applies to "skill checks," however Erasmus's statblock says that he gets a bonus to "Dexterity-based skill checks". Which is correct?

Question..
As a GM and/or Player do you feel that, besides a few Archtypes, the Fighter and Rogue classes have become obsolete?

I felt that way about the rogue. It was obsolete out of the box and then things got worse. Trying some unchained rogues to see how i feel about them now.

Mark could you talk to the rules team about making an unchained bear animal companion? Bears get shafted by the rules compared to big cats and dinosaurs. Bears should start at medium and go to large the same as big cats after all big bears are bigger than big cats. End bear discrimination now.

Okay Mark, you have 1d100 ⇒ 37 hours to spend 5d20 ⇒ (16, 18, 6, 5, 17) = 62 million dollars. What do you spend it on?

As an Alaskan who has 1 or 2 close encounters with big bears... I heartily agree with this.

Mark, was there a reason the errata didn't go into more detail about the hunter's animal companion and its use of Skirmisher Tricks? There are a lot of oddities and weird interactions there, and it seems like they would have been a good candidate for some clarification.

Hey Mark, another question: how do bucklers and New Slashing Grace interact? Larger shields clearly count as taking up a hand, but bucklers do not necessarily, and swashbucklers seem to be built to use bucklers. I've got a Daring Champion using Slashing Grace and a buckler in PFS, does she need to give up on one of those two?

I had an idea for a mythic feat. Please tell me what you think:

Divine Burn*
Prerequisite: Divine Source mythic ability, Levels in Kineticist
By accepting 1 point of burn a mythic character by use their divine source spell-like abilities an additional time per day.

* = Working title.

The alternative would be to let them use their divine source spell-like abilities at will just like their wild talents. The only issue there would be someone with the healing domain.

Do either of these work in your estimation?

Quote:
Dimensional Slide (Su): The arcanist can expend 1 point from her arcane reservoir to create a dimensional crack that she can step through to reach another location. This ability is used as part of a move action or withdraw action, allowing her to move up to 10 feet per arcanist level to any location she can see. This counts as 5 feet of movement. She can only use this ability once per round. She does not provoke attacks of opportunity when moving in this way, but any other movement she attempts as part of her move action provokes as normal.

Now I am 99% sure the intent is for the target to actual move as in "use movement", but the ability only calls out a move action.

Would I be correct?

Yeah I know the ACG errata was just released, but I will still start an FAQ if you say I am correct so we can get this officially fixed.

PS: If I somehow missed this despite checking the errata several times someone just let me know.

Hey Mark is there any talk about there being new ideas for the Occult classes to get Mythic support? Not Expecting a new book anytime soon but wanted to know if that was an interest for you guys.

So, based off the Kineticist Preview blog post, I had an idea for a 'Dragon Slayer' archetype, ala Natsu of Fairy Tail. Would you care to hear my thoughts about how one might work? It's still very rough, as I am unlikely to get to see the full class for awhile (it takes a long time to get newly released material into my local hobby store), so much of it is only theory and possibility.

Hi Mark!

Can Investigators use spell-trigger items? The Alchemist language specifically allowing the use of spell-trigger items didn't make it into the first edition of the ACG and it wasn't added back in in errata, so wondering whether the omission is an intentional limit.

Mark answered this in another thread just a little while ago. They intentionally cannot use them.

Have a question and a potential follow-up question.
Have the PDT discussed the Dragon Disciple bloodrager deal and decided not to change anything similar to the investigator and magic items?

If you haven't decided, where would the errata go for the change? the Core book in the DD prestige section? A FAQ that doesn't go in any book? or the ACG with the bloodrager?

Separate question, was the line in the class creation section of the ACG changed to not say that alternate classes are just archetypes? I didn't see mention of that in the errata, but it might be one of the changes that doesn't need to be listed.

Any plans for the kineticist to get new elements, or will it just get expanded list of abilities for existing elements, or both?

Silver Crusade

HI James, I know you don't normally answer rules questions but since you are the go to guy for Tech rules, I am designing a smaller version of the railgun a 2 handed rifle that does 2d10 20x4 with 20 charges for 20,000 gp what would you think about this?
