Magi and Arcane Discoveries

Rules Questions

Can a magus take arcane discoveries(found in the Ultimate Magic)? A magus is basically half fighter half wizard, so could half his levels count for selecting them? It means he has to wait longer to unlock such knowledge, but he could craft constructs or magic weapons faster or memorize spells faster when he prepares them.

So far as I can tell, the answer is in principle "no, only wizards get those, too bad". Not sure whether this is a good thing, but really, a Magus is not "half wizard", but a distinct class entirely.

Nope. A magus prepares spells and has spellbook, but it is still its own class.

No, the Arcane Discoveries are the Purview of the Wizard Class, not the Magus Class. If you want to change that, that is up to a GM, but by RAW, no.

Ok. Also, quick unrelated question, what do RAW and RAI stand for? I see them used all the time and get the gist of what they mean, but what do the acronyms stand for?

Rules as Written (RAW) Rules as Intended (RAI)

Makes sense, as the Wizard is the master of arcane study. His arcane discoveries are the result of him trying to improve is mastery of the arcane forces.

The Magus is the master of arcane combat. His Magus Arcana are his discoveries, on how to manipulate his arcane power to improve his combat.
