A DD for Mummies

Advice

Grand Lodge

So my typical group of friends whom I play Home brews with want to Do the Mummies Mask AP. We played through the first Crypt and made it to level 2.

I was looking to other players whom have played the AP or Played lots of Dragon Disciple, for advice.

I have read all the Zenith Games Guides. So I am a bit of an optimizer. However on this Character I do not want to go overboard with the power gaming. I want to do this with just Sorc and the PrC dragon disciple. I do not want to fool with the cross-blooded stuff or the Paragon surge shenanigans.

I am really role playing this guy out as a greedy person. Like a dragon would be. I am a varisian Human with no known father. Mother says he disappeared after a night of passion.

Here is my current Level 2 Character:
Nothing here is up for changing...so no need to waste time on giving me different stat arrays.

Gariden the Golden (Collector of Finer Things)
Human 15 point buy.
Str:8, Dex: 14, Con: 12, Int: 13, wis: 10, Cha: 17
(+1 to Cha @ 4, +1 to int @ 8, +2 to Cha late game)

Bloodline: Gold draconic (Yay FIRE!!!!)

Traits: Magical Knack- Sorcerer, and Foreign Opportunist (+2 Appraise and 60% value on relics instead of 50%)

Feats: Spell Focus- Evocation, Spell Specialization- Burning Hands

Skills: Perception, Know arcane, Spellcraft, UMD, Appraise

Spells:
0-Light, Acid Splash,
1-Burning Hands (DC 15), Feather Fall, _________??

Gold: 1,250 (need consumables and such.)

First and foremost I want only 8 levels of DD.
I do not care about Melee too much...at late game I could just FotD and go in...so I don't care about any combat feats.
I want to have a good fire list but I also want to have some good spells outside fire spells. I want a versatile list.

Here are the feats I like:
Intensified, Empower, Spell Pen, Varisian Tattoo-Evo, Greater spell focus, Dazing spell, Spell Perfection-Fireball, a 2nd spell perfection perhaps???, Sorceress Blood strike

Feats I'm taking via bloodline:
Improved Initiative, Quicken, and Great fort or Toughness

Spells I like:
Burning hands, Dispel magic, Emergency force shield, Wall of fire, Telekinesis, Sirocco

What spells would be great for Mummies mask?

Later game he will be Using his breath weapon and fireballs to refresh his Breath via Blood-strike. But I need more then blasts so I need some really good spell suggestions.

Also good items to avoid buying as they might drop? I don't consider loot spoilers...I like to plan ahead. Also good items to buy for this AP would be helpful.

There is no reason that i can see to go DD it will do nothing for you if you Wat to be a caster sorcerer and Str 8 seem to suggest that. Stay draconic bloodline sorcerer and you will be great. If you have a good team you can safety focus on fire spells and pehaps take elemental Spell (acid) if you start to meet resistance. Spontanious metafocus( pehaps fireball) around level 10 can be a good plan. That can keep you a fine blaster and keep your damage good all the way to the top. Fire resistance is common but just pile more damage on top. Or Pick elemental spell. Fireball will be better than breath weapon because of the bloodline arcana.

+4 str, +2 con, +2 Int, More skills Diplomacy and all Know skills, Better saves, More natural armor, +1 Bloodline feat earlier, BLIND SENSE, D12 HIT DICE, and a nifty 1/day form of the dragon allowing me to save a 7th level spell.

On 15 point buy the Stat boosts are a good thing and surviving the onslaught after my blast doesn't kill is important. I have a DM when you hit things with fireballs they tend to come after you.

I like the survival it brings and role play.

Spontaneous Metafocus- I totally missed that feat. I like it and will need it for Fireballs. It shall be added to my Feat list.

I don't feel too bad about being stuck at 7th level spells TBH because I wouldn't have gotten to 9th level spells unless I played a wizard. I wanted to play a charismatic caster because I typically play a cleric or conjuration wizard. I also love dragons...they are my favorite mythical beasts. The chance to play a Dragon disciple just jumped at me and I want to go with that choice instead of talking myself out of it for sheer power reasons. I annihilated Wrath of the righteous with an optimized God/crafting Wizard. I wanted to tone it down a bit for the rest of the group to have some fun with classes they don't typically pick up.

I also wanted that instant gratification that comes with blowing things up. I just need some help on spells that I can resort to when I can't blow things up. Also getting my feat right to be a master of Fireballs and Breath weapons. Black tentacles will of course be there...but I assume to be fighting undead heavily in Mummies mask AP. So undead Immunities will be a big thing to get around. At least Zombies hate fire lol.

Had your str now been at least 16 i would have said that the stat gain would open up for using form og the dragon in battle. But now it will just be a fancy fly Spell. And by level 12. Where you get it you can cast intensified, empowered fireballs with Spell specialisation as a level 6 slot and do somthing like 94 in damage. And if you go crying to the GM and ask to change magic knack for magic linage( fireball) yog can do it as a level 5 spell( providing your GM accept your crying and let you do the change)
You can of cause do fine with the DD but all your defense is not gonna be 2 levels of spells worth. IMOP.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I came expecting undead boobies.

I leave disappointed.

If you're playing up the "greedy" angle, you definitely need to take Blood Money as soon as possible. Not sure what spells you'd use it to cast, but you still need it. ;) Create Treasure Map would also be a great thematic choice.

Sadly, I never played Mummy's Mask, or a DD, so I'm not sure I'm any more help than that.

The Pit spells are fun for low/mid levels and there are a lot more non-flying monsters in that AP.
As for your 1st level spell, Pro Evil is pretty much a staple for long term use.
