Alright. I'm well aware that several attempts have been made to fix the travesty that is the truenamer class from 3.5. I didn't like any of them, but I loved these idea of the class, and I feel that it would be a perfect fit for my homebrew world. With that in mind, I propose the following, and I want opinions.
Utterances- instead of some contrived formulae, if you want to cast an utterance without a Truespeak check, you can. The target must make a save that cannot be deferred, and I have several ideas. This is the part I need help with. The check can be either:
A Will save.
A save made with these highest saving throw the target has.
A spell resistance check.
If the save is made, nothing happens. However, if the truenamer makes a Truespeak check equal to the targets CR (or Hit Dice) + 15, no save must be made. This allows the truenamer to learn a piece of the targets truename instead, surpassing the need for the special save. The truenamer can remember this 'cheat' name for one minute per truenamer level.
Let me know what you think it should be. Or other ideas in this vein. I'm not interested in hearing what others have done as I've read them all and didn't like them. I'd lose to come up with new utterances as well, but want to know what you all think of my base idea first.
