Spellscar Drifter-missing Challenge class feature

Cavalier archetype that uses guns.

Cavalier challenge is melee only.

Spellscar Drifter essentially has no class feature to add static damage.

Yep.

I'd say just stack it with Luring Cavalier (which is what you do with Musketeer to make it work)...except the Spellscar Drifter and Luring Cavalier archetypes are mutually exclusive (both replace cavalier's charge, mighty charge and supreme charge).


This has to be a typo. FAQed your post. Hopefully everyone else will mark this with an FAQ as well.


This archetype replaces all the class features used to charge people, but keeps Challenge as melee only.

Incidentally if they give this guy a ranged challenge then it will be a viable Cav archetype even when not mounted.


Nobody else marked this for FAQ since I last posted? While this is a simple house rule away from being fixed in a lot of games, this archetype is murdered by PFS play. The character will be a weight on the party, lacking the ability to use his main damage boosting class feature with his weapon of choice.


Hope they errata this.

Sucks if you're playing PFS, but a reasonable houserule is probably simply to change the text of challenge to read

Actually it's for DMs that enforce the RAW. Similar to how Titan Maulers do not give the ability to wield large weapons the Spellscar Drifter doesn't actually make the character effective with firearms.

This is, as far as I know, the only non-gunslinger firearm archetype that is currently legal.

I doubt we'll see a pfs fix though. PFS leadership doesn't really ever add things mechanically to classes on their own, and non-hardcover books generally don't get FAQ/errata because they don't get reprinted.


Once again this isn't in the hopes of getting it PFS legal, but to get errata so it's useable with DMs who play home games RAW.

Well, if its text was officially changed it would become PFS legal in the process. It would be a win/win!

As developer on this book, a PM to me would have been more effective. In any case, I'm aware of the thread now and will look into it once I get the current project off my plate and into edit (likely next week). That said, we only correct errata in books when they receive a second (or third, or fourth, etc.) printing. As a softcover, non-evergreen product, we are unlikely to make errata for Inner Sea Combat. We may, however, present an FAQ clarification on the message boards.

In the product discussion page the designer who wrote Spellscar Drifter had some words on the subject.

Order of the Land in Knights of the Inner Sea gives it's challange bonus to ranged attacks.
