@Boring7: Just thought I'd mention in case there was any confusion... The dhampir taking the quest item was a scripted event not retribution or teching against the party. Though I will admit I wanted the cleric, and the rest of the PCs, to have a moment of defeat and despair. The dhampir and his associates will be around for awhile and I can't wait to see how that goes.

@all: was thinking of using something that can worsen the party spell casting and would like to get a small list of the best stuff going since so many in my party are spellcasters. and give the barb a big moment to shine when casting eventually overtakes her martial prowess. Bestow curse as a spell is obvious but if someone knows of some beasts that can select what they go after or REALLY drain one attribute Ill gladly welcome a mention or link on the matter.


I'd never allow rulership to be taken as a varient channel, but that may just be me. It BEGS to be broken with negative energy channeling, and no one but no one picks it 'for roleplaying reasons' when they combine it with negative channeling.

Liberty's Edge

As a starter, increase the wisdom of NPC with a low wisdom by 4 points, going from 8 to 12 (8 is fairly common for human NPC in the APs) increase the will ST (saving throw) by 2 points without affecting other part of the NPC much. It can be a good to compensate for the 25 point characters without messing with the martials ability to shine.
The daze tactic will still be viable, but a bit less efficient.

Not sure i agree with about it being part of roleplay. An Archdevil, Dispater makes perfect sense for negative energy just because of the agenda of Hell. Because I couldn't fill the desires of my player wanting to become an infernal duke or similar power in Hell, I suggested that he take Ra (who has less material in Golarion so I could make up a little). That allowed him to adopt high level devils tactics, immunities, and power without polarizing alignments or downsides.

Mechanically I agree ruler ship is begging to be abused but at the same time a negative channeling fate portfolio can be a used even more. A -1 to-5 to every roll you could make could mean outright death from save or dies or charm effects. And even when such a combo is not possible in ur party ur still debuffing every attack, COmbat manaveurs, and more. Ruler ship can make you lose a turn, fate can make you wish you didn't have a turn.


That's not what fate does though. Channeling to harm with fate varient channeling just affects skill checks and ability checks, not attack rolls or saves. Varient channeling disease is the closest thing that does what you are suggesting I believe making the targets sickened.

I'd have to go through the list of varient channelling effects again to make sure but I'm fairly certain nothing even comes close to the level of rulership when used to harm.

While I'm not telling you how to run your game I'm just saying that rulership with negative channeling is just one of the things I would not allow.

Your correct. It is luck that does what I described, meaning channel penalty to every D20 roll for a round. Also madness and pain are contenders for rulership. Confused status (madness) and sickness/nauseated for channel rounds (pain) has potential to be better and worse. But I digress.

Envy also another painful one, you're giving away aoos every round unless monsters have improved steal. But I digress.
