Silas Vekker has the Undead trait. Should he be immune to the Mental and Poison traits?

If this is the case, I am a little surprised that there is not just an auto-population feature, so that when the Undead trait is added to a card that the first line of text is the immunity text.

Wouldn't that assume they had built some kind software for creating cards? I'm not sure they've done that (or at least not for RotR). Maybe there is something already out there that would do that though, I have no idea.

My guess is yes, he should have those immunities.

Yeah. I should have said, that is my guess too. I was just trying to word it FAQ style.

I just wasn't 100% sure if maybe there was a story reason from the Rise of the Runelords RPG that he wouldn't have those immunities.

He also has the Ghost and Incorporeal traits but doesn't require the Magic trait to be defeated. (Not sure which one of those two traits might be the one that triggers that, but it seems one of them probably does.)

Should he require the Magic trait to be defeated?

No. You can only defeat him with Wisdom, which in this case (without being too spoilery) doesn't mandate Magic at all.

Ahh, it seems that there was more to it than I knew. I just got my adventure delivered last night. I haven't really gone over the set all that much, yet, though. I like to figure it out as I go. I don't get too excited for boons that I might not get, and too afraid of a bane I might not encounter.

Oops. Color my face as red as the border on a henchman card. I saw how how high the check was and, not being used to that high of a Wisdom check to defeat a monster, assumed it was Combat, thus thinking the mental and poison immunity should be there. That guy is going to be tough for my Ezren, Sajan, Amiri, Merisiel group.

Sorry for wasting everyone's time, please return to your normal activity.

Yes, he should.

He was a Wisdom check? Well crap, we did that wrong last night. We did the same thing as Hawkmoon -- saw a really high check, and assumed it was a combat.

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone in that mistake.

I don't think he really needs the immunity clause since he requires a Wisdom check, though I suppose there is always the chance another Adventure Path will have a way to add the Mental or Poison traits to a Wisdom check. So I guess better safe than sorry.

Why does he need the line about being immune to the Mental and Poison traits? I understand that he is Undead, but the check to defeat is a Wisdom check, which to my knowledge cannot gain the Mental or Poison traits.

Also, even though this was a high check, my Virtuoso Lem just laughed at the check. Thank goodness for Blessing of Shelyn and the power feat to add d12s, plus a recharge to add a d4+3.

I think certain spells which grant the evasion ability have the mental trait. That would mean that those spells would not work against him.

Can't think of any poison effects which might be affected. It is just good practice in case new cards come along that might interact with this monster.

Ah yes. Good point about the Mental trait. Maybe there might one day be a poison based bane for evasion. Like a potion of evasion or something. It probably is just best to cover all the bases.

I suppose that is true. I wasn't thinking about those types of boons. I was just wondering since I couldn't think of everything off the top of my head, but I guess it is best to cover all of your bases. It also helps with future boons, and who knows what they might do.

This would be why we didn't catch the issue during playtesting. :-)
