The Red Bishop: Heroes Assemble!!

PaizoCon General Discussion

Dark Archive

Hey everyone, this thread is a rallying cry for all players fortunate enough to have been chosen for James Jacobs PaizoCon lottery event The Red Bishop. I am hoping we can all collaborate on our character concepts/ ideas to try and create a cohesive group in, what I am fully confident will be, an adventure to remember. I have asked James about options for races and if there was a gold piece limit on a single magical item to which he replied the following:

James Jacobs wrote:
It'd be best to limit your race to core races only, but the only limit on magic item purchases is what you'd be able to afford for your wealth by level; you can spend it all on one item if you want.

I hope to hear from you all soon and I cannot wait to meet you three weeks from now.

My initial character concept is an 8th level Human Fighter (Ranged)

Scarab Sages

If it is in Sandpoint, I'd like to recreate my character from when I played Rise of the Runelords (though she began 3.5 and ended in Beta)

Shoanti Ranger, 2 handed archetype with cinder snake (viper) animal companion

Greetings, I shall be joining you as well. I would like to play a skills based character - likely a bard or investigator.

Excellent; thanks for starting this thread!

Yes, please limit your races to those from the Core Rulebook. The adventure does indeed take place in the Sandpoint Hinterlands (and perhaps a bit in Sandpoint as well) so outlandish races are going to be disruptive.

Spend 33,000 gp however you want for your gear. Don't take any Item Creation feats—everyone has the same 33,000 gp to spend, and no fair "cheating" the system by trying to get half-off prices! :-P

Looking forward to playing!!!

Hmmm hope the other plays chime in soon because we are low on casters. I may make an alt caster just in case though it is not my first choice. Good to meet you all :)

I will have alternatives planned as well.

I apparently missed this last night. Hi!

My initial concept is a human inquisitor of Sarenrae, mostly melee-based. I can work on alternative ideas if that wouldn't fit in.

Dark Archive

Hey Caeliat!! Before any of us settle on alternate ideas let us just see what each other initially wants to play. Who knows what the other two players are wanting to play!?! I still believe we are in good hands thus far :) Have some some alt ideas just in case.

I would love for everyone to play the character they want rather than playing something to fill a niche.

Everyone just be sure to buy a CLW wand :)

NOTE: I'm more than capable of adjusting the dangers and encounters in the adventure to match whatever mix of characters you all come up with. So feel free to make the types of characters you want, rather than trying to make sure the group represents a classically balanced party of adventurers.

This sounds like there are mystery elements so thought I would try a smart support character for a change. Never played a bard or investigator but both sound like they would be a good choice for this adventure.

Whatever character I play I will be a worshiper of Zohls who I only read about recently but has such super flavor for a detective.

I wonder, are we allowed 2 traits for character creation?

Everyone should make up dwarves. Be sure'n ta be bringin yer scottise accents an yer flagins.

Sorry, James.

Paizo Employee Creative Director

Go ahead and grab 2 character traits but if you do, one of them needs to be a Sandpoint-flavored campaign trait from the APG.

Dark Archive

Any word from other members of our party?

Scarab Sages

I'm sorry for not checking the forums until now. I'm thinking of being a dwarven cleric of Angradd if that fits okay with everyone else.

James, thanks so much for making a great con even better, it was an absolute blast. Yo my fellow players, you were a great bunch, I really enjoyed meeting you all. Be happy to play a game or grab a drink with you next year.

And thanks to you all for playing! I had a blast, and you all really took that poor Red Bishop to town! Well done!

My Red Bishop companions. I have some pictures from the event, if any of you are interested in seeing these pics please message me your email address and I will send them to you. There are not many of the whole table but there are some gems :). It was a pleasure gaming with you all.

This thing right here is where you divide the people who GM from the people who are GMs.

The Red Bishop is a character I was hoping gets officially explored in a module or something. Ah well lol.

The Red Bishop continues to torment Sutter, only now it's spread. Caeliat made him some special THE RED BISHOP KNOWS WHAT YOU DID and THE RED BISHOP WATCHES YOU SLEEP motivational images.

Seriously, the Red Bishop just seems so cool! Well, hopefully the adventure will be released to the public. :)

The adventure I ran is indeed part of something bigger I'm working on for publication... but to put it in perspective, so was a game I ran at Paizocon 2012. It might be a while before it gets out there, in other words. In the meantime, a few snippets of information as well as an illustration of the Red Bishop appear in Pathfinder #49...

For comparison, James' 2009 game turned into We Be Goblins! and The Brinewall Legacy (Jade Regent #1) in 2011.
