Apps, Apps and even more Apps.

So...I'm trying to come up with a good comprehensible list of the very best Apps and software people use for their various Pathfinder games (or as long as anyone doesn't get too cranky...any RPG game you play). When I say that...I mean everything from Character sheet generators, to the use of hero labs, to Mapping app software, dice apps, treasure generators etc, etc.

Free vs Pay programs/Apps do not matter to me. Basically I would like to set up a fully functioning multi-media setup for our games that I can share across google docs and other means with my gaming group so that any and all of us can use the materials to not only craft our own Pathfinder games from a GM perspective, but also from a player character perspective as well. So I'm truly looking for anything from complete interactive character sheets, to KingMaker Kingdom building tools, to random monster generators and anything and everything in between.

If anyone would like to give a shout out to their favorite bits of software (again..free or otherwise) or heck maybe even things you've created yourself...I would love to see them. Please give a rundown on anything you might use...and what specifically you use them for. Thank you all ahead of time :)

no one?

For character generation, HeroLab is pretty much unbeatable. The only downside is that all of the expansion packs get EXPENSIVE!

For VTT, I had been using MapTool, although Roll20 seems to have stolen much of its thunder now. (I don't have remote players currently, and don't use VTT now.)

For soundtracks, I use a combination of specific playlists on Spotify plus encounter-area sound effects by Syrinscape.

For campaign management, including adventure logs, a campaign-specific wiki, and player forums, I use Obsidian Portal.

For online rules reference, there's the Pathfinder PRD (open content from the rulebook line), the Archives of Nethys (open content from all Paizo products), and d20PFSRD.com (open content from Paizo plus 3PP, but all Paizo product identity stripped out).

I just realized that this thread should be on the Technology board...

I like Dice Bag for when high level casters start throwing around disintegrate, or when the already large titan mauler barbarian is enlarged and swinging around his oversized grearsword. The ability to design and save custom rolls, as well as a plain low resource design is a winner for me.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Pathfinder Open Reference - Masterwork Tools, for Android, has been invaluable at my Pathfinder Society games. Saves me a lot of trouble when I need to find a rule quickly, plus you can set up blocks of bookmarks (I have all my character's key stuff under one heading).

Also, the upcoming "Codename: Morningstar" sounds pretty promising. It's going to be for D&D 5E, but there are some hints it may be rules-customizable, so Pathfinder use might be possible.

Even though it's on the Google Play Store and iTunes, he maintains updates on a separate site. PFRPG RD I love this app and it's super cheap.

I typically use PCGen for character creation...it's free! A little slow because it's done in the Java language but very good software overall.

Paizo's PRD is also invaluable.

Those are the only ones I've used. I'm pretty old school when it comes to the game, so I draw my maps on flip-mats, do my own treasure hoards, etc.

For PbP's, Google Drive is a great way to generate maps, handouts, or pretty much anything.

Thanks for the info...had completely forgot about Hero Labs. I do already have the Pathfinder Open Reference for Android and it is indeed invaluable for looking up feats and other information on the fly in a handy single location.

I'm a little biased, but in addition to creating Hero Lab, we released Realm Works this year for campaign management.
