GM Dak - RotRL AE Re-Recruitment

Recruitment

We have lost a couple of our players over the course of the last couple months. As such I am opening this game for re-recruitment. I will award PFS chronicles for this game if you are interested.

Currently we have the following:

Magus - Elf (Female)
Sorcerer - Half-Elfish (Male)
Ranger - Dwarf (Male)

There is a definite need for at least a semi-dedicated healer and a solid front liner.

I would like to get things rolling again quickly. I will leave recruitment open until 6/18. If we get some solid applicants before that I may make an early decision.

Please take a look at the Campaign Info for more details about how I run things and feel free to catch up on the current going ons in the Gameplay thread to build into your background/story. We are nearing the completion of book one. I would like to try to maintain at least a 1/day posting excluding weekends from players, but would love more posting if you can.

Character Creation:

-Level 3
-2500 gp starting wealth
-Max health 1st level, Half+1+Con mod every level their after
-Classes from Core, APG, UM, and UC are acceptable - No ACG playtest
-Core races, Aasimer or Tiefling would be preferred. If you want to play something else I may allow it based on background.
-NO third party publishing sources allowed
-All other Paizo products will be allowed
-Race traits, feats, magic items, and alternate class features from the ARG are allowed but you can not build your own custom race.
-2 traits
-20 point buy with no stat above 18 or below 7 before racial adjustment.

-Please include a background, personality and appearance block.
-Also please explain why you would be joining up with this group that are already unofficial heroes of the town and have the trust of a number of its citizens. More specifically, if you are already a level 3 adventurer why weren't you already helping out with things.

I have a character I might want to submit - I will try to finish him up by tomorrow.

Dotting for interest. I'll have a submission to you soon.

Submitting with this character (will de level him to 3rd for this game)

I've got this guy from a PbP game that went belly up. Wouldn't take very long to level him up a level. He's a cleric of Cayden Cailean with variant channeling giving him a hangover effect on enemies. He's a friendly, helpful, fun loving guy, in the vein of his patron. Decent front-liner and good support caster.

Background:
Dan is a quarter Shoanti, on his mother's side. His still-living grandparents were Skoan-quah traders who settled in Korvosa when they got the opportunity to purchase the shop of one of their regular customers. They settled in the small community of expat Shoanti and did their best to ignore the scorn of the tribe as they became a conduit for other Shoanti traders and Korvosan merchants.

Dan's mother, Tanjah, grew up in the city and eventually fell in love with a young brewer, Pavolius. The two married and had several children, with Dan, the oldest, named after one of Tanny's Shoanti ancestors. His younger siblings are Zova, a sister only two years younger than Dan, Marcello, a brother six years Dan's junior, and Novennia, the baby sister eight years younger than Dan.

The children grew up in a series of taverns and breweries, at first as their father worked for other people and then as he started his own brewery and tavern. Alcohol was never the seductive mystery to them it is to some children, as they grew up tasting wine and beer in the normal course of their days.

It was a happy childhood, though Dan inherited the wanderlust that had driven his grandparents to become itinerant traders until their middle age. He wandered all over the city, getting into trouble with and without his friends, as children tend to do.

Unfortunately, even happy children sometimes rebel and Dan's rebellion came in the form of shiver. With alcohol a known quantity, Dan experimented with the hallucinogen as a teen, frequenting the shiver dens and getting addicted to both the languid torpor of the drug and the vivid dreams that came after.

It was in one of these dreams that he met Cayden Cailean. Cayden revealed to him in a vision more vivid than the shiver dream that the drug was a form of mental imprisonment, that he was trading real life for a world of ephemeral dreams. Dan woke up from that dream with the conviction that shiver dealers were nothing but slavers in another form. They didn't enslave peoples' bodies, they instead enslaved their minds.

Finding fellow adherents of the Accidental God wasn't hard, and he quickly convinced them he was sincere in his beliefs. Dan has since devoted himself to Cayden's service and saving shiver addicts from themselves. In particular, Dan has worked against Gaedren Lamm's shiver dealers and dens.

Unfortunately he had one too many run-ins with the city watch in his efforts to help the common man back in Korvosa and he had to go on the lam. He just recently arrived in Sandpoint and heard that there was a group of adventurers fighting goblins who have been raiding the town- something right up his alley.

Interested! I will crank something out soon.

@Winwaar, Oniwaban, & Ace of Spades Look forward to it.
@Arthur Please include a background and specifically why you would now be helping out this group, even though they have already been in the depths of things.
@karlprosek Can't access the link from work. Make sure you create a profile here.

Also, I forgot to add this but if anyone has questions please feel free to ask.

Dark Archive

I've a character I think could work out quite well. Originally I'd intended for him to wind up a Warpriest at later levels (3+) would you consider allowing a PC to change Cleric levels into WP levels in August when the book is released? (maybe Ranger levels into WP levels)

I've other concepts I can put forward, but I think Hank could work out well here.

Dark Archive

I'd quite fancy playing a half-orc, not sure if either Sacred Shield Paladin or Armoured Hulk Barbarian. Will work up some concepts properly.

@twilsemail Probably not changing levels, but I would be ok allowing you to multi-class once I've had a chance to read the final material.

This is a quick profile for him I put together for you to look at.

Here is my submission. I would love to get in on this.

background:
Xandric Vallistar was raised in Magnimar as the son of a wealthy noble family. He and his younger brother Xeric were raised together and they provided a stark contrast to one another. Both boys exhibited a sharp mind and a quick wit. Xandric was more introspective, reserved and cautious of the two. While Xeric was bold, rash and ambitious. As they grew older their interests began to distinguish them more and more apart from one another. Xeric delved into the arts of science and began to tinker with chemistry and the alchemical arts. Xandric was more interested in spiritual matters and exploring the secrets of the worlds beyond the physical.

By the time they had matured they had both become accomplished adepts. Xandric had been convinced by his younger brother that they should to embark on a life of adventure. They set forth, with companions, to explore the wide world and discover ancient secrets. Unfortunately, whether due to foolhardy choices, a cruel jest of the gods or a simple twist of fate, the young group soon found themselves in mortal peril beyond their means. The party was lost save Xandric, who barely managed to claw his way back to Magnimar.

Xandric took the loss of his brother dearly. He blamed himself for not being able to protect his brother and companions. He rejected the wishes of his mother and father and turned away from the noble courts and family businesses. He devoted his life to the temple of Pharasmus and dedicated himself to quiet study and meditation.

As he explored the mysteries of other worlds and planes of existence, Xandric began to believe that there was a greater life waiting beyond deaths door. He grew more and more detached from reality and longed to leave the world and begin the afterlife in earnest.

It was his master who intervened and ordered Xandric to take up his clerical vestments mantle again and travel out into the world. There was trouble brewing in Sandpoint. His master exclaimed that only by leading a worthy life could one attain an honored position in the afterlife. Although uncertain, Xandric reluctantly obeyed.

Xandric is cold, calculating and shrewd. He pushes others away with his aloof and detached nature. He feels that he is simply biding his time in this life while he awaits the afterlife. When it concerns otherworldly affairs or extra planar knowledge he is always curious and inquisitive. Honest to a fault, Xandric can often inadvertently insult others.

Just to note, since going back and re-reading it wasn't very clear, I am looking for 1-2 characters. The roles I would like to fill are a healer and a front liner. As such you don't necessarily ahve to be a healer and a front liner, though that is a viable option as well.

I started a RoTRL game with this character that fizzled during book 1

his background is under the spoiler of his character sheet.

He is is a friend of Ameiko and was hired by Shalelu Andosa to go an reconnaissance after the goblin attack (that he partake in) just somewhere else in standpoint from the others PC's.

Now He is trying to meet up with the other group of heroes and join them.

Background:
"I am a mercenary. I once asked a young cousin of mine what he thought a mercenary was. He said, "Someone who kills people for money." I cannot argue with that, but I believe that the definition is incomplete. I am a professional soldier. I fight for pay, true. I know how to kill, certainly. What sets me apart from a bandit or assassin is that I understand the intelligent application of force. If I must kill, I do so as quickly and cleanly as possible. I do not kill needlessly, and I will not take a contract based solely on my ability to kill. While I have taken "kill" jobs before, and will probably do so again, they were always undertaken in support of a greater goal. I follow a code, which I have refined over the years. The specifics shouldn't matter to you, but it defines the kinds of jobs I take, and the kinds I won't take. And if I take a job, and it changes in such a way that it would violate my code, I walk." - Dorik Ironhand, on being a mercenary.

After losing his parents to greenskins, Dorik was apprenticed at a young age to his uncle Felger, a weaponsmith. He took easily to the craft, but his uncle was frustrated by the beardling's desire to spend as much time learning to use the weapons as he did building them. Dorik called it "testing the product". At the age of 35, he joined the clan militia, spending a decade training to be a soldier. He was a natural, quickly sponging up everything they could teach him about killing orcs, goblins, and giants with a wide variety of weapons. His training led him to focus on melee combat, after learning that he was no more than average with ranged weapons. After a few years of distinguished service against goblin raiding parties, a few close calls led Dorik's commander to the conclusion that Dorik seemed to possess an even greater resistance to magic than most of his fellows, and he requested special training in recognizing and dealing with casters for the young warrior. His request was granted, and some of the clan's senior fighters began to instruct Dorik in the basics of anti-magic warfare. He was then assigned to a unit that specialized in such operations, responding to a variety of magical threats, and focusing only on those until they were eliminated.

The Ironhand clan was not at war, however, and there were often long periods of downtime in between skirmishes. While this was fine for most of the dwarves, Dorik realized that he was always happiest in a fight, surrounded by his mates, with blood and adrenaline thundering through his veins. Nothing else made him feel so alive, and it led to a series of incidents, wherein he would end up starting a lot of "good-natured" brawls in the mead-hall. He had a long series of heart-to-heart talks with his uncle and some of his superiors in the militia, and it was not long before he decided to leave the clan, and seek his fortune as a soldier-for-hire. With the savings from his work in the smithy and his combat pay, Dorik bought the necessary materials and worked with his uncle to create some custom weapons and armor. As the days went by and they worked at crafting his equipment, they bonded over all of the time they'd spent together in the forge, and when they were finished, Felger was the first person to see Dorik kitted out in his fine new gear.

Dorik promised to return when he could, and to send word of his adventures. Felger told him one final thing before he left. "Son," he said, "because that's what you've become to me, you may not concern yourself with the greater causes of good and evil, and that's alright, because they are not always easily told apart. But you still know right from wrong. You're a good, stout lad and a fierce fighter. Keep those weapons clean. Use them well, for what feels right. It won't always be easy to see, but just try to listen to that voice inside yourself. Do me, and the clan, proud." and with a last hug, Dorik left, accompanying a trade caravan to the surface and beginning his life as an adventurer.

Dorik Ironhand is a soldier, first and foremost. He sees himself as a craftsman of warfare. He believes that clear, concise communications save as many lives as axes and swords, and that lies about duty or combat situations can kill as easily as crossbows or magic. He always acts with professionalism and respect, regardless of whether he receives the same in turn. He keeps his appearance neat, and his weapons clean and well-maintained. He is polite, perhaps even friendly, but he tries to make clear to his fellows that in his mind, the job always comes first. He investigates situations as carefully as he can when before accepting a job, and he always makes sure him employers know that if the situation changes to something he isn't comfortable with, he will notify them and leave. He will not hesitate to kill an unarmed foe if necessary, but he believes that there are few circumstances under which he would ever need to do so. Once his employment has been secured, he is loyal to his employer until/unless the situation proves different than it seemed to be. He does not serve out of altruism, however, because he believes that it clouds the judgement and keeps one from assessing a situation rationally.

Dorik made his way to Sandpoint because he heard that there might be employment for a good soldier. Protecting the town seems like a resonable cause, provided he can find someone to pay him to do it, or provide a share of loot. He has heard rumors of what has gone on, and that the "heroes of Sandpoint" might be looking for help, so he proceeded to seek them out.

Appearance: 4'2", 185 lbs. with long, dark-brown hair. Light blue eyes, and a modest (as dwarves go) beard. His overall appearance is neat, and his equipment is well-maintained. He walks with his head high, and shoulders back, looking people directly in the eyes when interacting with them, and always speaking in a clear, direct manner.

Jurak was raised in sandpoint, always being the lowest, a half-orc orphan with no-one to look after him, and no clue as to his parents. Still he was a good sort, and some of the townsfolk felt pity for him and looked after him.
As he got older, Shalelu occasionally took him on rangings, when she felt she wouldn't get into a fight, and wouldn't need stealth, and young Jurak developed an intense crush on the elf.

With an intense feeling of needing to prove himself, as soon as he was able Jurak travelled to Magnimar to train as a Paladin. Finally returning to Sandpoint after his training he finds that events have been somewhat turbulent recently and seeks out the heroes that have risen to the occasion to offer his services.

Persona: Jurak has a somewhat low self-esteem and a need to prove himself, he also feels protective of everyone, if he can take a hit to prevent someone else suffering he'll take it. Outside of combat he follows the same lines, he seeks to protect those he can and alleviate suffering wherever it is found.

Appearance: Jurak is massive and heavyset, with black dreadlocks hanging down his back. He wears his plate like a second skin, rarely removing it - he never knows when he may be called on to defend the weak. His face shows his orcish heritage all too well, his jutting jaw and visible tusks, as well as his red eyes, when younger he sought to hide his features, now he realises the futility of such and is open about his heritage.

Withdrawing. Good luck guys!

Interested with a front line rogue going on sap adept. Sent a PM.

The basic build is in this character, though the race and background and stats need to be changed.

Okay! I’ve a submission for a Half-Orc Aasimar Paladin.

Garruk Metaltusk:

A brute of a Half-orc.
All Garruk wanted was live as normal as a half-orc can live.
Plagued by gruesome dreams all his childhood, vivid battles against hordes of shrieking, twisted demons, he knew his life was meat to fight the evil, but he did not wanted it.
He fled the Torag church, his only home, place where he was found as a baby.
He was robbed of all things he took from church.
With no food or money, he tried to steal. However, he could never blend in. He often ended beat up.
He tried to be a blacksmith apprentice. However, that was not for him either.
Many years of his life, Garruk wandered from city to city, town to town, village to village and could never settle in.
His dreams began to get worse, he could barely sleep anymore. He gave in. Went to the first Torag church he saw and began his training.
Years later, already a Paladin of Torag, Garruk Metaltusk was assigned to help an adventure’s group to investigate some rumors. They fought vicious orcs, and hordes of goblins. But they were just too many. When a big orc in a full plate appeared, they knew the battle was lost.
Using his own life as shield, his group left him to die, while fleeing to safety.
Garruk thought that his time had come, but Torag had another plans for him. His aim was true. Every swing of his hammer found a target. Time was a blur, he did not know how much time had passed, it was night and the battlefield was a mess of blood and bones. Exhausted, he fell asleep. He woke up to discover his armor in tatters, his backpack was lost in the fight, the only thing was still clean, was his holy symbol. The black armor of his enemy, he took as a spoil. It was not difficult to adjust it for him.
He hunted down his team members. It would not be good to kill then, even if he wanted. But scare then was another thing altogether…
Now he is travelling for Sandpoint. A little coastal town, rumored to be plagued by strange murders. It is not what he wanted to do. However, how can he defy what he was made for?

Personality:
Garruk know how to speak when he wants to. He always seems to be in a bad-mood, always complaining how his life is. However, he is loyal to his friends and implacable to his enemy’s. Nevertheless, he always gives them a chance to surrender, before tasting his hammer

Appearance:

Garruk is a half-orc unlike any other, bigger and stronger than most of this race.
His claws and tusks have a metallic color, his eyes are purple and his hair silver.

Stat Block:

Garruk Metaltusk

What's a half-orc Aasimar?

Non-Human Aasimar:
Not all aasimar are descended from humans. Aasimars can be born of any intelligent race, though human aasimars are the most common. Aasimars of other races usually exemplify the ideals of beauty and skill as seen by their base race. For example, halfling aasimars are small, beautifully proportioned, and display exceptional grace. Half-orc aasimars are slightly larger and stronger than ordinary orcs, with tough skin and metallic claws and tusks—they are likely to be neutral rather than evil, but still display aggression and incredible combat prowess. Less common humanoids, such as lizardfolk, catfolk, tengus, and others, can also produce aasimars, though given these races’ exotic appearance, members of the more common races may have trouble telling such aasimars apart from their kin.

You can check the complete text here: Aasimar.

:)

An older man, with a hooded cloak walks up to the adventurers.

"Greeting adventurers. My name is Garox and I am a citizen of this destroyed city. I heard you were fighting the goblins and are now going after their leaders. I wish to join you in this endeavor. I just returned to the city to find it ablaze and my family....slaughtered.....

I was busy performing the proper burial rights and now I wish to avenge them. But to go in alone would accomplish nothing. I am a skilled thief and would be able to help you with traps and such should we encounter them. Please let me accompany you, I am begging you to take me with you. I must have my vengeance.

He falls to his knees as he is truly begging the adventurers to take him along. As he looks up, pleading, his hood falls back and you can see a demonic ancestry in his face. Though he has lost everything, a fire burns in his eyes. You can clearly see he will do whatever is necessary.

This is the sap adept Bugsy talked about. Stats and everything is on his character page. I would love to join the party and can post multiple times a day.

Garox can also go the Str path with the Enforcer feat with a level of fighter or (urban)barbarian and retrain out of Enforcer when he has a Merciful weapon around lvl 5/6.

So you're just an Aasimar that appears as a half-orc, I was just wondering if there was something more specific than that. Ta.

spinningdice wrote:

Yeah, just lot uglier than an average aasimar. :D

Updated to Str build so he can dish it out without losing too much in rogue skills. Will need to invest in a mythril breastplate when he has the money.

Just a reminder, I am closing recruitment on this on the 18th. So if you are interested or have pieces outstanding please get them in. I will be making my decision in the evening of the 18th.

I've got a concept for a Mad Dog Barbarian that might work well for this. :)

I'm thinking he would have been an old friend of Shaelu(sp?) and coming to visit. When he heard of the incidents in Sandpoint, he rushed on to see what help he and he companion could provide.

I'm going to be closing recruitment early. I have already PMed those who have been accepted. Thank you everyone for your interest. There were some really great submissions and it was a tough decision. If we have any other spots open in the future I will be sure to reach out again!
