Speed and Armor

Rules Questions

I'm playing with a barbarian, and I'm curious what my speed should actually be while I'm wearing chainmail. Because of Fast Movement and the Boots of Striding and Springing, I have a 50' base speed. The Fast Movement applies before dealing with Armor, but does the effect of the Boots turn on before or after the armor when calculating my speed? I'm not sure if I should have 40' or 35' base speed now.

Add up movement bonuses, then apply movement penalties. So a barbarian with Fast Movement and Boots of Striding & Springing has a Move of 50', then when wearing medium armor, consult the table and that barbarian goes 35'.

Chain mail is medium armor.

Your speed should be 30 (base) + 10 (fast movement) + 10 (boots of striding) - 10 (medium armor): 40 ft.

EDIT
@Zoom
What table is that?

EDIT2
Nevermind it, i didnt know about the existance of this table Table: Armor and Encumbrance for Other Base Speeds.
I always simply added them all together for simplicity's sake.

Thanks for the chart. Bit of a shame I'm slower than expected, but should still be useful.

Yeah, medium and heavy armor doesn't reduce your land speed by 10 feet. It reduces your speed to roughly 66% (rounded up). I just eyeballed it, so that might be completely accurate but it's close enough if not.
