LRGG Is Back!

Hey guys!

We’re back. We had an issue with some OGL stuff.
A number of our products have been fixed but we have a few more (like Dragon Tiger Ox and Necropunk) that will be coming back on line in the next few weeks.

So, that being said, the goblins over at LRGG were not sleeping during this time. In fact we probably wrote more content than we wrote in the last 6 months. This post is going to serve as a little summary of what we’ve got loaded and the various states of our projects.

First off, the Necropunk Advanced Player’s Guide. We’ve got some formatting and editing to do on it but otherwise art and design are done on it. There is a toolbox we are playing with for armors, but I’d say it’s 80% done. Sorry for the wait on this book but it’s a BIG book with a lots of stuff. This includes a lot of kickstarter rewards for this and DTO. DTO is getting another update with some new content and the premades for those who donated at that level.

Secondly, new stuff. We’ve got a whole SLEW of classes. These products will probably get their own threads so I’ll try to sum them up in a sentence or two each.

We’ve got the detective, a no-magic base class that is a totally unique take on the literary archetype in terms of mechanics (it carves its own niche really). I am talking with some folks, but we might be able to publish something special with that as an extra.

We have a “hero” base class that is based on the words of Joseph Campbell’s opus “The Hero With A Thousand Faces” (it’s half a critique of Campbell and half a class).

We’ve got a “courtly” book which features 3 classes. The first is the courtier who is a base class who selects another character as their “lord” and grants both their lord and themselves a bonus when working together. The second is the “buck” which refers to a “young buck”. The playtesters described it as a “fighter with class”; it’s a landed noble with a military career (think more british grenadier than fantasy knight). That book is wrapped up with the sycophant archetype for clerics. They worship a charismatic person (or their idealized version of that person) rather than a deity and cast arcane spells.

We’ve got the forsworn, a female paladin alternate who rides a unicorn and has more druid style spells (don’t worry- there is a male variant called a “challenger” who gets a pegasus).

We are going to be releasing the matador, an archetype for our fencer class from our “En Garde” book.

Those ones I’ve just mentioned are the ones we have 100% ready to go (designed, playtested, edited, art done, edited , and either fully or partially formatted). The next ones are in various states of completion but are close to it (I’d say they are probably all in their 2nd or 3rd editing pass phase).

We’ve got the “nomad” base class. The nomad is a wandering warrior from a far off culture (like a barbarian generally is) who is as skilled at ingratiating himself into a culture as he is at slaying his enemies. He has a unique “cultural adaptation” mechanic that is somewhat reminiscent of the ranger’s favored enemy.

The “really simple prestige class” book has one idea in mind: making short prestige classes that are WORTH taking. They may not make you the most powerful character in the game but they are worth taking that dip.

Then comes our, “gonzo” class book. Scott was set free to design anything he wanted with a lot or red bull and came up with some fantastic stuff. The concept behind the book is that they are base classes intentionally designed to conflict with the “traditional” Tolkien-esque fantasy setting and push suspension a bit. There are classes like the “toon”, which is more of a Tex Avery style character who unglued himself from reality due to a strict dedication to an absurdist philosophy/lifestyle. The “punk” is, in many ways, the urban answer to a druid. Selected by the “spirit of civilization” these hobo-acrobats fight for progress, change, and the right to tag everything with graffiti. Speaking of counter-culture, the book also includes the “rockstar”. Musician warriors who worship rock music, they wield bladed guitars and cause sonic damage with their instruments of destruction (Admit it- you’ve always wanted to play Gene Simmons in D&D). The book also features the “living bomb” prestige class for arcane casters. You can literally blow yourself to bits but overcharging yourself with spell-energy and violently explode… only to reform (a little worse for wear) a round later. We top that book off with the “craven” base class. A character whose powers are fueled by greed and a powerful pact that allows him to sacrifice his own material wealth to fuel his own destructive abilities. Perfect for a paladin of a commerce god or a devil-bargaining meiser.

It seems like everyone is doing an underdark book these days (check out some of Adventure-A-Week’s stuff!). Well we didn’t get the memo and have a “Races of Darkness” book slated to launch which is just DRIPPING with lore. Everything from playable derro and trolls to drow antipaladin classes, and more than a dozen deities!

On the horizon we’ve got a few other products being produced.

Some of you have talked with me and, yes, we do plan on re-tooling Legendary Levels. You’ll notice that LL won’t be coming back to the store due to this. Dayton Johnson (one of the main guys behind Dragon Tiger Ox) is working on a preliminary revamp of the system and it is out of this freaking world. Legendary damage is changing (in a good way), divinity score is totally different, and a lot of things are being reimagined from the ground up. I don’t have a launch date on it yet but it’s in the works.

We have been messing with “A Tome of Wicked Things”, one of our first releases ever, and that has some promise. We may be re-releasing it at a later time with new material and revamped old stuff FOR FREE to anyone who had our old product.

The Necropunk adventure path is still being developed as well as the fiction line and it’s a lot of fun to look at that. There are a lot of short stories, some longer ones, and lots of pretty art.

We have a “non-traditional race book” in the works as well. It includes 20-30 races that, while remaining within the paradigm of fantasy races, does not draw inspiration or interact with established/Tolkien races. We are looking for new and unique races whose particular allure either defies/subverts old tropes or established/explores new or untapped ones. They are mechanically unique, be able to be dropped into a campaign setting with minimal story requirements, and are totally exciting to play. This book actually features a playtested huge player race as well as playable swarms, headless races, as well as a race of small-sized, arctic, jewish (well… inspired), seafaring, wookies with horns. It’s also got the “archon” prestige class which kind of serves as a universal racial paragon class with some practical allure. We may be opening another contest for this one like we did Racial Guide 2.5 but more on that when we get closer to launch on it.

Sorry if that is a little long-winded but we’ve been working on a lot!
We want to thank everyone who supported us and can’t wait to share this all with you!

Happy gaming,
Red

I don't think I've ever looked forward to being broke before, but there is is a first for everything I can see. Get these wonderful products out, Red, so that I can own them all.

My wife already hates the fact I game, why not make her hate it more? I've been waiting for you guys to return.

More classes, more races, oh be still my heart! Especially those "gonzo" classes and non-traditional races. I love the weird.

This is either the best or worst idea for a class ever. Guess I'll have to read it to find out. =)

Liberty's Edge

Welcome back. You have been missed.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Glad to be back.

The gonzo ones are a lot of fun. We actually just did a playtest last weekend for a few of them (craven and punk) while doing stuff for nomad and courtier.

Punk needs a little tweaking. A lot of their damage, when you want to deal it, comes from converting falling damage to melee damage so "getting up there" becomes a big thing and I am not 100% content with how it plays. It works well in places where your GM gives you some physical objects to play with, but when there is nothing it is a pain. We added a mid level ability that should aid in that (kind of like a "springboard" thing).

The craven was a riot and the transcripts of the game are hilarious. One of our designers, Zerby, was having a blast roleplaying the greedy aspect of it (they have a fun kind of "code of conduct" thing called "greedy"). "Why should I care about the mummy?" "Um... herm... well... he's holding a golden ank!" "DIBS! I'M IN!"

It's a bit of an odd-ball, but it's a totally new take on what defines a "class".

It's a "10 level base class". It's treated like a base class but can be used as a prestige. Progression in the class is somewhat akin to mythic rules as it is more narrative driven. It has what are called "thresholds" at certain levels which are vaguely defined plot points (utilizing Campbell's milestones). It's mechanics focus on things like the separation of the natural and "special" worlds (and allies who inhabit them), apotheosis, etc. It kind of assumes you have at least a passing familiarity with Campbell's work, but we sidebar a fair bit of it to give a little insight into some of the terms/concepts.

Neat. I've never actually read "Hero With A Thousand Faces" cover to cover, but I got the highlight reel from a Mythology class I took a while back, along with reading some of his other essays and whatnot. Good stuff.

Is there an ETA on when that (or any of this, really) is going to drop?

We are working out our production schedule. We have a tentative one. I know detective is dropping first and hero is in the first 3 products, as well as forsworn and courtly book.

We are going to be doing a "blitz" to release as much as possible in order to get things out the door as fast as possible rather than waiting our normal 2.5 weeks between launches.

I guess i better get moving on my "additional suggestions for adjustments of monks in dragon tiger ox" thread soon.

Oh so in all of our excitement I forgot to mention one of my favorite projects we've been working on.

We have a product we are launching called, “A Dream of Mars” which utilizes the Barsoom setting created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
It is a small, 5 page, free, product the showcases some general rules for playing in a savage martian setting and features everyone’s favorite race of green giants.

To make it even better we got Jack Holiday to do the art for this one (expense out of pocket and for your enjoyment). The piece we got back from him was straight up INSANE.

We’d love to expand this book into a larger one, but let’s see the kind of response we get. Unfortunately, we will be region-locking this product on our sales venue to the USA due to some copyright issues in other countries.

Dark Archive

So, when can we hope to see any of these new releases?

We are still cleaning up a few products for the audit. I (Scott) am at a Con this weekend and our other formatting guy (Dayton) is on vacation for a few weeks. I just did DTO & Necropunk. I probably have a week before I can start formatting the new ones (well, a few of them are already formatted). I'd say 2 weeks.

Dark Archive

Thanks for the update.

Welcome Back!

Really looking forward to the Legendary Levels retool. Still considering doing Legendary Mythic?

Yep. That is one of our big projects. It's not up right now but Dayton is working away at it.

Also public domain in Australia, I believe. :)

You might run into trademark issues as well, though you may pass under Disney's notice. I think you'd win, as a result of SCOTUS's ruling on trademarks based on public domain works, and the recent Sherlock Holmes ruling about characters that are in some public domain works and some works still under copyright, but I doubt you'd want to pay to fight such a claim in in court.

In any case, I look forward to seeing what you've done with the idea. :)

Yay! Mythic is one of the things that has been really drawing me back into Pathfinder, and the idea of combining that with Legendary levels really gets me excited.

Can't wait to see what you have in store.

Thanks Owen. It was a long journey even before we started on development.
We literally messaged the rights holders and made sure to dot our eyes and cross our ts. It should be noted that they did not endorse us. All copies of the product are region locked, display the appropriate disclaimer notation on the first page, etc. There are still phrases we cannot refer to (and we don't). It was delayed for months while we sorted things out.

@Hark
Yeah, it is FAR from done but we've got a great start on it.

Oh yeah and for those who have not seen, we have a Patreon where we are releasing our future work for $5! www.patreon.com/LittleRedGoblinGames

I'm not sure how this works exactly from that link. Patrons give you $5 for one 15+ page product plus all smaller future ones? Or does $5 get all future nonkickstarter projects? Or is it a commitment to give $5 per product you work on?

The last one,
Patreon basically a way to back an artist or group you support. Basically if you pledge $5-$15 per product we produce, you get all non-kickstarter projects that are 15 pages or more. If we put something out that is less than 15 pages, you get it for free.

So what ever happened to this in the schedule? This was the last we'd heard of anything, and there's been no updates on the KS site, aside from a production schedule in the comments (which most backers never would have seen). The Editor was already here in the forum 'fishing' some time ago, which would lead one to presume that the work is finished on those rewards and such, and new product is coming out, so... what happened to those things still outstanding? I try to be as positive about things as I can be, and I really do not wish to come across as negative, however without some sort of update it appears as though this has been forgotten or lost in the shuffle.

So what is the schedule for the old products coming back? I found about the Tome of Spell and Sword and the Tome of Thorn and Leaf from Endzeitgeists review site and the Wandering Artist from the 3rd party class list thread, abut those don't appear on the Paizo store.

They are slowly coming back as part of our "redux" line.
A lot of products got removed because they are not up to our current quality standard. There is no specific ETA for any product as we are not only taking the opportunity to revise them but to expand them. Our next redux product is Tome of Wicked things. In addition to the complete overhaul of content I think the page count has more than doubled. It also includes 2 new base classes. Anyone who had a copy of it gets it for free too.

DTO is next on the list. Our hands were kinda tied during Necropunk development. The bonus products are scheduled to go out today. DTO update is rolling out in a few weeks (working on as we speak).

(Also I went to post an update and apparently the last update we posted never got posted for some reason and was sitting as a draft?)

Edit: I checked with Dayton and the HoE documents got their update. All $40+ backers should have those now.

Edit #2: HQ art files should be out.

Thanks for taking care of this, Little Red :) Looking forward to the 'final' DTO, so we can start a discussion thread for DTO II :D

lol I don't know about that just yet.
Our next big project is Legendary Levels revised. Let's work on getting that monster out the door before we look at re-visiting ancient China (though you know we'd love to).

From the reports I got today, the NPCs should be done by Tuesday and it'll probably take a week or so for the update to be properly formatted.
