Just reposting the link to the KS for the new page:
Strange Brew: The Ultimate Witch and Warlock.
With a new Warlock Base Class, alternate Witch class, archetypes for both, spells, feats, hexes, patrons and pacts, familiars, covens and more - this is a truly fantastic expansion for eldritch and occult options in your game.

I don't see it anywhere on the KS page... what is a warlock? It's more different than just being a male witch?
The latest update on the Kickstarter page has some more detail about it.
There's also a small amount of info in my interview with Tim Brannan, found ***HERE*** (note: I do mean small amount of info. Don't expect a breakdown of all the abilities or anything).
Hope that helps.

I'm creating some NPC now... one mythic high/level witch, one mid-level multiclass witch, and one novice witch, with both old and new patrons and hexes. Maybe I could make a warlock too. ;)
Problem of the day: what's the best way to recreate the old AD&D power of evil priests to turn paladins? A feat? A mythic feat? A class or archetype ability? Sure if a witch or warlock can command undead, they must also be able to turn opposed alignment divine servants! ^_^

They'd need to be able to channel negative energy first, and then some sort of Turn [x] Feat modeled on the Turn Undead feat would do it. May be a bit overpowered, though, as Turn Undead affects a certain creature type, whereas Turn [good] covers a much broader range of entities. Also, being able to 'command' one thing does not necessarily imply the ability to 'turn' something else. Finding a way to balance it without going Über would be the challenge :)
Bardess |
Turn and Command should be separate feats all right. Turn Good could be a Mythic feat (Turn Alignment to turn outsiders, Mythic Turn Alignment to turn every good being as in Mythic Alignment Channel). The feat I'm thinking about should be more specific, though. I created Turn Aura, to turn divine spellcasters with a specific alignment aura- but this works with clerics and paladins, not with inquisitors and oracles (and druids and rangers) who have no aura. Hmmmm.

Timothy Brannan just added The Witch PDF to backers of $25+ on the Strange Brew Kickstarter.
Also, I've got Owen K.C. Stephens looking over what we have on the warlock so far. He'll offer up some suggestions on it. I'm hoping that if he likes it a great deal, I can talk him into writing the Talented Warlock as a stretch goal. Fingers crossed.

Here's what I posted on the KS update:
Margherita Tramontano, better known as Bardess on the Paizo Messageboards, has agreed to contribute something to Strange Brew if we reach 100 backers today. We need 7 (now 5) to make that happen. What you may not know is that Margherita, along with Will Wells, is working on the Book of Passion for me, a Pathfinder book that will tackle the issues discussed in The Book of Erotic Fantasy done for D20 back in the day. They have over 100 pages at the moment, and they both believe there are tie-in possibilities with Strange Brew. I'm curious to see what those would be, myself.
I you are interested in finding out what they might be, reach out to several friends to join the Strange Brew kickstarter. I think it will be quite intriguing!
Also, she and Will think their book might make a very excellent stretch goal book. Let us know what you think about that.
Added here: For obvious reasons, Bardess's book will not bear the compatibility logo. It will have a 3.75 logo on it.

Sorry Christina, bit off topic, but I've got a couple of questions about the Book of Passion that Bardess is working on. Not that it's really a big concern for me, since my groups never used the BoEF, nor will we since we use the ol' standard of "character moves in for a kiss, fade to black", so this is really just for my curiousity.
So it's going to be OGL compatible, but not Pathfinder Compatible (in that it won't be able to show the Pathfinder Compatible logo). What's this 3.75 logo? I know that Pathfinder has been unofficially referred to as D&D 3.75 at times, but I've never seen a logo. Is this just something you're creating for the book?
Additionally, I assume you're taking into account the need to make sure that the tie-in stuff for Strange Brew will meets the Pathfinder Compatibility License terms as well?
I also saw over in the favourite classes thread that you said Alexander Auganas is going to be contributing something? Could we get an update about what exactly he's working on?

Right. It will be OGL, using Pathfinder rules. Most people get that saying 3.75 is saying Pathfinder, so we just created a logo with that on it. We used it for Bite Me! Playing Lycanthropes recently, as I included a little risqué picture of a were mantis eating after mating. The art and subject matter will be something that Paizo will want removed from their name, and I totally respect that.
Additionally, I assume you're taking into account the need to make sure that the tie-in stuff for Strange Brew will meets the Pathfinder Compatibility License terms as well?
Yes, we'd have to make sure whatever we include with the compatibility logo on it will have to meet its standards. That may mean putting material in a different PDF--or changing the logo.
I also saw over in the favourite classes thread that you said Alexander Auganas is going to be contributing something? Could we get an update about what exactly he's working on?
He will be working on an archetype he is calling ravaged vessel for the warlock. I'll have some more information on this posted to our KS soon, and then I'll release more information about it here. I'm happy to have him on board!
Alexander Augunas Contributor |
@Tinkergoth
I'm working on a new archetype for the warlock called the ravaged soul. Essentially, he's a warlock that permanently binds a ravaged spirit to his soul, which acts as his patron. The rest of the class slowly transforms the warlocked into a paragon of the ravaged and the book will also include this new spirit, the ravaged spirit, which is sort of a generic "bad stuff happens to people who bind it" spirit. If you have Secrets of Pact Magic, the archetype name is a direct reference to a template in that 3.5 splat book, the Ravaged Vessel template.
The ravaged vessel archetype is also unique because it is the only archetype (aside from occultist ones) that can seal pacts with multiple spirits. Granted one of the ravaged vessel's spirits has to be the ravaged spirit, but hey! That's pretty cool. ;-)

[Throws down the gauntlet (-witch).]
Well, I'll put my other gauntlet on for a moment and hereby offer up the Direlock Base Class PDF to all Initiate Witch backers and above. If you want some armored warlock action, a spell-eating, eldritch tendril flowing Direlock will set your casters quaking.
You can't get more Ultimate than that. Or can you???

I have been asked to write some unusial familiar, like aberrations or plants. When I'm done I'll post the results here and in the kickstarter page.
Someone has some suggestions? ^^ Do you want walking flowers or cat-headed flying hamsters? (My 4-years old boy asked me that... ^^;)
Sounds great to me!
I've got to get a post out today on the project!
Bardess |
Don't forget to put on OSW's very generous offer too. ^^
I gathered some ideas in the meanwhile...
What would you say about:
Symbiotic Bolete (Plant)
Flying Leaf (Plant)
Fruit Jelly (Ooze)
Mini-amalgam (Aberration or Magic Beast?)
Telltale (Aberration)
Walking Cactus (Plant)
Plus: some new familiar feats, like Familiar Companion (Mythic) and Familiar Masque! Hide your quasit under an angelic shape! Have an horse as your familiar!
I'll post some of these as I complete them... let's say... one every 5 or 10 new pledgers? ;)
Christina Stiles Contributor |
I've made the post. We add in Forest Guardian Press's generous offer when we reach 125 backers. The Direlock Base Class received Endzeitgeist's rare Seal of Approval, so this is an excellent addition to the rewards.
I'll have a post from Morgan Boehringer and Christos Gurd about their inspirations for their piece of this project--which yet remains out of reach. Don't you want some War Witches and Hexmavens? I LOVE that title!
Spread the word. Let's get the backer count up!
Christina Stiles Contributor |
We're at 104 now.
I'll work on the Flowering Minicactus (have you a cooler name?) first, and post it when we hit 110! :)
We are nearing 110 backers! Better get writing.
I'm away at ConCarolinas as the Gaming Guest of Honor this weekend, though, so I'm not sure how much time I'll be spending checking email and the Internet with all the cool events going on.
