I'm makin' a new Curse of the Crimson Throne character, and I'm wonderin' what the most effective languages to take for the purposes of the campaign.
My character has Shoanti for free because his mom was one (Child of Two Worlds trait), but the only real Chelaxian language he'd pick up from his dad is Common, which everyone gets anyway, and thanks to his INT bonus he gets one more language that can be any one except Druidic (human here).
Infernal makes sense, given Korvosa's heritage, but he's a priest of Sarenrae, so he'd probably execrate using such language. Other languages, like Orc and whatnot I don't think feature enough to truly merit speaking it out of the box. Maybe learning later down the line, I don't know.
What languages feature the most heavily in Curse of the Crimson Throne, so that I'll get the most utility out of my last language choice?

The 'common' language spoken in Korvosa is the language from Cheliax, which actually is Taldan. A second language that many in the city speak is Varisian. Shoanti is a third possibility, not so much in the city, but it is an excellent choice for the adventure path.
So, if you already know common (Taldan) and Shoanti, Varisian is the obvious choice, as Lakeside said. A fourth good choice within the AP would indeed be Infernal, and given Korvosa's ties to Cheliax and its many imps and devil summoning wizards, you could possibly find a reason to have your PC know the language.
Halfling, Draconic, Dwarven could all make sense, as explained by Lakeside, but will not really serve you in the AP as written (I can't speak for your GM of course). The bard in my campaign is even picking up Vudran from one of the girls in the Eel's End brothel.

And I'm sure that's not all he's picking up.
