I just got into a debate about it with my friends. So I thought that we could talk about it here too. For me, instant turnoffs are:

- Dreadlocks which are very thick and poorly kept.
- Overly long nails
- Smoking. The moment a girl lights up, her attractiveness, for me, reduces for about 70%
- Excessive piercings, especially on the face
- Excessive tattoos, especially on the highly visible parts of the body, like face/neck/hands
- Lopsided hairdos (i know that hair grows back, but it tells me something about a person's...well...personality)

- Lack of regular bathing
- Talking over/constant interrupting of others
- Snatching food off others' plates, even if it is just a french fry or two, without permission
- Blatant passive-aggressiveness

Gobbos. That is why it's so difficult, gobbo. With your 10% remaining attractiveness, your effort is impressive, but...

Bad taste. To adapt a Groucho Marx quote: "I wouldn't want to date any woman who would have me as a boyfriend."

I lied. Pinkskins totally turn me on.

[Waggles eyebrows]

No Don Juan I have told you many times I will still not date you. I am still very much in love with Gruumash the manly Half-Orc that he is.

As far as turn offs

-Whining by a man is strictly not allowed.
-Stinginess a real man should know how to take care of his lady.
-Manners holding a door and standing when a lady comes to the table as well as holding a chair out for her to sit. Then of the course the normal etiquette with silverware and the like. All these things may seem out dated or too formal but they are appreciated and for me expected.

Oh, Monica...

Wait...manners are a turn-off? ;)

Sovereign Court

Phone-a-holics people who cant put their phones down for more than 90 seconds. Constant texting and app searching even when out to dinner or with friends.

Completely inapropriate footwear choices. I get that some women like heels, I admit they definetly compliment. When we decide to go shows and pub crawling down town though its annoying as all get out when you cant keep up or cross the street in time for the light. Please choose wisely for your evening. Also, there is a point between nice heels and hooker pumps, just sayin'.

Cant consume alcohol moderately This goes for anyone but I apreciate women who know their limits. If you cant drink all night long then nurse or switch it up before you are blackout drunk please. Nobody likes to take care of someone that is well inebriated, especially before midnight.

Well, that's not what she's saying, but I know people for whom that's a turn-off. As she says "may seem out-dated or too formal".

I know; I was just being a PITA. And you're right...there are definitely people who take that sort of thing the wrong way. Can't be too careful out there.

As to the OP:

* Tobacco. Immediate deal-killer. Thank you, drive through please.
* Consistent use of poor grammar.
* Racism. Life is too short.
* Taller than me (I'm 6') -- though I suspect the feeling would be mutual.

Well, honestly, even just as overformal or pretentious it can be an issue.

Smoking, or more precisely smell of tobacco, turn me off.

I was dancing with attractive woman that was attracted to me as well and I had to dance with face turned away for most of the time. Yuck.

Not being Mrs. Bell

but also

Crass/rude behavior
Bad manners
Haughtiness
Lack of responsibility for one's own actions and affairs
Nagging/guilt tripping
Tackiness

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Stupidity.

Silver Crusade

bad teeth...for real..gross (not like yellowed teeth but I mean missing or half rotten or super crooked)

blaming others for all of their problems or the things that don’t go their way

Vindictiveness

"Know it all" attitude.

bad hygiene

Being rude to wait staff

Bad hygiene

Walking up to me and talking to me about your power gaming character while I'm in the gaming section without even suspecting I might not give a damn.

Smoking

Neck and face tattoos

Not taking responsibility for one's self and their actions or life.

Being crass and crude in public. Loud laughter and lively conversation are one thing, but keep it polite. In private, be as nasty as you wanna be. ;)

Seriously using words like "conversate" or "ratchety". You're not on Maury. Please speak proper English (or whatever language you might speak).

Don't call me bro, unless you really are someone I consider a brother.

Gamers who try to tell me my characters/campaigns/blah blah blah are "nothing compared to mine/my DM's/blah blah blah"

Smoking (again - It's important to me).

Animal cruelty

Ethnic jokes

People who refuse to understand or even make fun of people with things like depression, anxiety, etc.

People who claim to have an open mind. I've never met anyone who really has one, despite what they say. they open one door and they close another.

Trying to force me to view the world their way.

Expecting me (an introvert) to completely blend in and be comfortable in their social or familial circles. It's just not easy for me.

I'd better stop here. This could go on a long, long time.

Yes 50 Shades and especially twlight are rubbish, but they open women up to certain.....nevermind you dont have much experience in these things.

My brain miss read that for a second and I thought you had said waking up next to me.

What about jokes about Caucasians or rednecks?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Anyone who objects to the contents, or worse, has never even heard of, such instructive works of mine as Les Pants de Malodor,The 120 Days of Noddy, Dialogue Between a Priest and a Dying Grade 5 Tuba Instruction Manual and How to Find a Disease-Ridden French Aristocratic Pervert- And Make Him Keep YOU!. For La Comtesse de Malodor, it's disease-ridden French aristocratic perverts. For my freedom-hating Elven oaf of a steward, it's women with insufficiently overdeveloped behinds who won't go to bed with him, the sexist Silvanesti pig.

The NPC wrote:

They both have pretty sour senses of humor when it comes to jokes about them. I try to steer clear of all such types of jokes...considering I live in the center of a state full of both.

Smoking, excessive drinking, drugs, bad behavior etc. have all been touched on already. The only things I can add are:

- Too much makeup
- Tanned to the point of being orange
- Laughing at her own jokes
- Complete ignorance of the world and complete indifference to how it got to be that way

Illegal drug use.

Excessive alcohol consumption. (Defined by me as more than two drinks per night.)

No apology needed, though heels don't count. ;)

sanwah68 wrote:

I find tall women attractive and would not be adverse to dating one who is taller than I am (if I were single). However, I am just under 5'8" and most women prefer taller men, so I just never bothered to ask out a tall woman. It is simply a matter of playing the percentages.

I had a roommate in college who was about 6' and he did not even like to stand next to a woman who was taller than he is.

Turn-offs? All that phony crap like implants, botox, caked-on makeup, spray-on tan, hair that requires massive industrial processes; emoting everything instead of talking normally; pretending to be stupid. Seriously, I like humans, not Barbie dolls.

Not being Mrs. Haladir.

But aside from that, Hal's turnoffs in potential romantic parters include (but are not limited to):

- Smoking
- Being rude to service staff
- Poor hygine
- General lack of awareness of politics/culture/current events
- Lack of a filter in conversation
- Using so much product in hair that it's stiff to the touch
- Too much perfume/cologne/body spray/scented shampoo
- No sense of humor
- General meanness
- Low self-esteem
- Lots of food allergies (whether real or imagined)
- Often on a weird diet (i.e. not under supervision of a doctor)
- Boring taste in food / unwillingness to try different cuisine
- Illegal drug use
- Can't hold liquor / regularly gets completely hammered.
- Disrespect of others
- Being dismissive of things I care about
- Overly conservative outlook on life
- Yankees fan
