where do I begin? our regular DM (GM?) ended our campaign and doesn't have time for another. our party is restless and wants to play, so as unofficial party leader, I decided to give it a shot. I'm pretty sure I can just buy a ready-made adventure, right? but which one? we are four adult women (maybe a husband or two) with three little girls (12,7, and 7), and two boys (both 10). suggestions? thanks!

You might want to take a look at the Reign of Winter adventure path. Russian mythology, winter witches, Baba Yaga and dancing huts. It's a lot of fun.

Much as I like Reign of Winter, it may well not be the best of places to start.

I'd suggest looking at one of the Modules first; they're self contained, unlike the six part Adventure Paths.

Why not run some of the free PFS modules to try your hand? In particular I bet you and your group would have great fun with We Be Goblins, and We Be Goblins Too, both of which are available as free downloads. The PCs use pregen goblins and can apply credit from the games to PFS characters, they are great and will give you a chance to try your hand as a GM before you commit to expensive purchases, etc.

I would recommend against running with a group quite as large as you seem to have, maybe split it into two groups? 5, 1 GM and 4 players is pretty much the ideal.

excellent, thank you all! I will check out these suggestions and see what works for us. the two 7yo don't play much - we basically call them when they need to roll for something. our party is rather large, though, maybe I'll just have the kids play, and let the parents help.

First steps should be your.. well.. First steps. It does a good job of introducing the society and lets you get used to the skill mechanics and a few easy combats (and THEN tries to kill you with the last combat)

For kids, if you want to have someone quasi in the game have someone run a pet class and give the kid the pet.

I'd also suggest the Confirmation.

Personally I feel The Confirmation is head and shoulders above First Steps as an introduction to play.

I would have to advocate The Confirmation as a great place to start over First Steps 1.

If you want to run Pathfinder, but don't want to be limited by the PFS rules, you could consider running the module, The Dragon's Demand, as it is designed to run a party of PCs from 1st level up to about 7th level.

In home game mode, you can run as many or as few PCs as you want, use house rules and non-PFS legal options, etc. And, still, at the end, you can pass out PFS Chronicles (up to 4 of them) for the module to all the players.
