i'm pretty sure pathfinder amphibians are good to go in salt water... didn't you know Golarion amphibians have a special membrane with adjustable porosity? :)
i.e. unfortunately, nothing in the rules that mentions differences in the way aquatic or amphibian creatures operate in salt vs. fresh water... :)
I think you're right. Oh well.
A character with a swim speed still has plenty of chances to get ahead of the rest of the party and attract solo attention from critters meant to fight the whole group...

In the real world, pirate crews often were a wild mix of races and nationalities. Many of them had outlandish tattoos, fashions and eccentricites. It's a profession that attract the people that don't fit in other places. If there's any campaign that attracts the unusual, this is it.
Our jolly crew has an Undine, Kitsune, two Catfolk, a token human and a sea monster. (The sea monser is a fetchling summoner (synthesist) that is never seen in fetchling form)
Naturally our ship is the [u]Claws of the Sea[/u].
