A place to buy spell scrolls

I've seen all manner of methods for a witch to add new spells to her familiar even after shes prestiged, but all the methods I've seen involve finding said scroll or NPC during a game.

Is there any kind of official society shop where I can straight up pick and choose some scrolls to buy.

You can buy any piece of equipment which your fame score qualifies you for, this includes scrolls.

However, you do not need to do that. You can use the rules for adding spells by purchasing access to them from the CRB magic chapter. It is far cheaper than buying actual scrolls.

If you find a scroll during an adventure you can feed it to your familiar during the session in the normal way to gain access to the spell.

Nothing specific, but it's assumed you can find some shop someplace in a large enough city (Absalom) to sell them to you.

Just follow the rules in the Core as usual.

thanks guys checking the rules now

I looked through the magic chapter and couldn't find any actual prices for buying spells. Am I missing something?

Core Rulebook, Magic chapter, Arcane Spells, Arcane Magical Writings, Adding Spells to a Wizard's Spellbook, Spells Copied from Another's Spellbook or a Scroll, third paragraph wrote:

Check here. Sorry, dont know the page number offhand.

Under 'Adding Spells to a Wizards Spellbook' and 'Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook'. IIRC, it shuld work the same for you as a Witch, just with your familiar instead of the book.

Thats for copying out of a Wizards Spellbook, Jiggy, which I dont think the familiar can do.

From what I can tell from a casual glance, your options are:

1. Gain new spells when you level, which costs you nothing.

2. Learn from another Witch, which costs you the amount on the chart for that level of spell

3. Learn from a scroll, which will cost the cost to buy the scroll + the cost on the chart for that level of spell.

I could be way off, though. I have very little experience with Witches.

Edited to reflect Paz's response to my previous post!

NPC witches charge the same for your familiar to commune with their familiar as NPC wizards do for you to look at their spellbook.

In fact, witches get a better deal as they don't need to pay for magical ink and paper.

EDIT: To prove I have taken ranks in 'Craft (search query)', here is the official comment on the topic.

As I understand it, you can add spells to your spellbook/familiar in 4 ways:

1) Spells gained through going up a level. These do not have any cost but do use pages in your spellbook.

2) Find a scroll/spellbook during a scenario. If you do and make the spellcraft check (15 + Level of spell) you can copy the spell into your book. You just need to pay the scribing cost. (See chart on p. 219 of the CRB.) In the case of scrolls this process consumes the item.

Witches burn the scroll and feed it in a potion to their familiar. This consumes the scroll and then the spellcraft roll is made. Not sure if you can do the same with a spellbook.

3) Adventure with another arcane caster with a spellbook/familiar. You can attempt to learn and copy spells from his book if a wizrd/magus(or the familiars talk if witches.)

4) Purchase a scroll and copy it into you spellbook or sacrifice it to your familiar. You have to pay the cost of the scroll and the scribing cost as appropriate.

All level 0 and level 1 scrolls are on the always available list for purchase. Level 2 and level 3 scroll can be purchased after earning 5 Fame. Level 4 and level 5 scrolls can be purchased after earning 9 Fame. Level 6 scrolls can be purchased after earning 13 Fame.

Scrolls of up to level 4 can also be purchased using Prestige Points regardless of Fame levels.

Just a couple of some witch-specific comments:

Quote:
1) Spells gained through going up a level.

In addition to the normal 2 spells per level, a witch's familiar also gets patron spells.

For the uninitiated: you can (and likely should) take 10 on the spellcraft roll.

Witches don't have to pay scribing costs.
Witches can't use spell/formula books, only scrolls.

Not entirely accurate. Here's the correct list:

1. Gain new spells when you level, which costs you nothing.

2. Learn from another Witch, which costs you half of the amount on the chart for that level of spell (unless it's another PC; cost for "access" only applies to NPCs)

3. Learn from a scroll, which will cost the cost to buy the scroll.

In the rare event of encountering a witch antagonist in a PFS scenario and capturing her familiar, you might be able to convince it to share its spells:

PRD wrote:
If a familiar belongs to a witch that has died, it only retains its knowledge of spells for 24 hours, during which time it is possible to coerce or bribe the familiar into teaching its spells to another, subject to GM discretion.

Although how well that would work at a PFS table remains to be seen (for me, at least).

Lol! Awesome. I also thought that only spellcasters with spellbooks could learn spells from NPCs. My 8th level Witch has never played a game with another Witch, and has been stuck this whole time with just the spells he's gotten from leveling up.

I take my hat off to you, sir.
