Speak with Dead

Carrion Crown

Had a quick question about speaking with dead.

I will be playing carrion crown soon as a bone oracle. I'm not looking for any spoilers but I was wondering if Speak with dead was something they made any allowances for in writing the adventure or if it would just cause my gm more fuss and bother than it is worth?

Thanks!

The AP as written takes Speak with dead into account and made it mostly ineffectual.

The AP helps the GM when a PC would likely want to use Speak With Dead. I would say it could be useful, but there definitely situations where it won't be because of what the AP does. My players have never tried, so I can't comment there.

If you’re on the ball and understand Speak With Dead’s limitations (e.g. you can only talk to the same corpse once a week, it only knows what it knew when it died, and if you don’t share its alignment it gets a will save to resist and may try to Bluff you), it can be very useful in this adventure path. There are some safeguards in place to make it tougher to unravel the big mysteries using this spell, but should be at least as useful as, say, Detect Thoughts.

Yeah, it should be fine. Won't break the story in book 1, is entirely accounted for (and expected, really) in book 2, and starting in book 3 there is a wonderful safeguard that hopefully your GM sees!

Just remember, you can't speak with dead if they don't got a head.
