Ironjaw Facecrusher, the village wiseman

Advice

The Exchange

Greetings my subjects, it is I, your King! I have come here to ask upon you all to gather your best thoughts and ideas to help me bring to life my most trusted friend, and the village wiseman, Ironjaw Facecrusher. We have chosen to take time off from our duties and become pathfinder society members!

Ironjaw is a human barbarian man who to others is not very wise, but they are the fools, because only a fool would think one so wise to not be, right? Ironjaw insists on disarming the stupid he meets in mortal combat, and showing them how to properly fight, which is to throw things right into your enemies face!

Please, your best ideas and also optimization beyond conceptual/useful advice for things to consider when building such a great man. A PFS legal Human Barbarian who will disarm enemies, and throw tons of stuff all over the place. Myself, and my friend who will be Ironjaw, both like to see the extremes of optimization, and then we figure out how we want to add our flavor in adjusting the character.

The King will forgo the buttery sock of justice once as a reward to all those that help in this cause.

The Exchange

Bumping in hopes of getting human barbarian pfs legal throwing weapon build advice

Yeah, this. I read the post and didn't like the arrogance so ignored it. When you ask for help a little less "work for me, dogs" and a lot more humility is the way to go.

The Exchange

IC silliness. I apologizefor the miscommunication on my part.

I've never understood why people post in-character on a forum board, that isn't about the actual playing of the game.

The Exchange

Please avoid a discussion about in character posts in this thread. I regret trying to share in the experience of my character, and giving an idea for what I want others to feel able Ironjaw, and in the future won't bother. I can't delete or edit the original post, so if people could forgive it and assist me, I'd appreciate it.

No problem.
So lets start.
He wants to disarm people:
He needs combat expertise and Improved Disarm. Feats
So far so easy.
He wants to hurl something at his enemy:
Hurler archetype.
Maybe a bit of flexebility:
Throw anything. Feat
So far he needs just a Int of 13.
So that he can target a wee bit better.
Point Blank shot and Precise shot.
So I would say:
Max strength, a bit dex a bit con 13 int rest dump.
He is maybe a bit unattentive and not good making friends, but still quite clever... check!
Level 1 CE + ID He can now disarm people without getting AoO.
Level 2: Rage Power Accuracy.
Level 3 PBS
and 5 PS
Level 7 Hurl anything.
Now he can now throw anything in his enemys face and if he gets closer Disarm them.

Don't worry about it, IC can be fun, and based on the Green alias poster name, it's pretty clear it was IC.

As for optimizing and thrown weapon user, that's tough. Thrown weapons are short range, need Quick Draw in addidtion to any other ranged feats, and the best two items for thrown weapons, a blink-back belt and a belt of mighty hurling, cannot be worn together. However, it has an advantage in that you can use agile weapons for dex to damage on a throw that you can't get on normal ranged weapons.

Generally speaking, The best thrown weapons imo is a Brawler fighter with agile wushu darts and a blink back belt, along with the greater snap shot feats to use Stand Still to lock down any movement with 15 feet.

The Exchange

Disarm might be reconsidered. The reminder of the expertise and int 13 are depressing

The Exchange

Straight barbarian is the way to go? Suggestions not including improved disarm? What weapons or items should be carried and how should they be carried

Not sure if its PFS legal since i dont know all those rules but here is Bumi created by RavingDork

Shadow Lodge

OK, I am going to go a different route here.

Ironjaw Facecrusher

Human Urban/Savage Barbarian (he is savage for a village :D )
Stats:
Str: 16
Dex: 14 (+2 human) 16
Con: 14
Wis: 14
Int: 10
Cha: 7
(character is in fact wise but no one listens because of poor social skills)

Feats:
1. Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot
3. Throw Anything
5. Deadly Aim
7. Quick Draw
9. Deadly Aim
11. Charging Hurler

Rage Powers
2. Superstitious (because wise men don't trust magic
4. Impaling Disarm
6. Hurling, Lesser
8. Hurling
10. Hurling Greater
12. Eater of Magic

With this build you can rage into dex for hit still do good damage and then starting a 4th level take a guys weapon and throw it into his buddy

When possible (around level 7-8) get a cord of stubborn resolve. This will let you rage cycle to do impaling disarm multiple times per combat. You can throw anything including giant boulders and even charge while doing so.

EDIT: A few additional notes. Get a wand of mage armor and your AC will be solid. also take Surprise Weapon as a trait.

in reguards to this character, which i think is pretty bad ass, does a rock have the fragile weapon quality?

The Exchange

I haven't had time to read over everything yet, but to make note, him being considered wise is something ironic. I think dumping cha wis and int to 7 might be something my friend would want unless it's necessary for the suggested build.

Do you really really really want to play someone who is about half intelligent, half as wise and half as charismatic as alan in The hangover?

The Exchange

Massive role playing will happen while being optimal

yes it can be quite fun

Shadow Lodge

While I love the roleplay, as you asked for optimization, I would not dump wisdom or int. Sink your charisma and you can play dump. But will saves, perception and skills are just to important in PFS to slash like that.

Not entirely sure? I mean rocks are pretty hefty and sturdy. And they are tiny-sized rocks...you know what else is tiny? A house cat. so youre basically launching cinder blocks.

The Exchange

Part of the irony is my character is a lore warden trip fighter and will have a lot of knowledge skill access, but refers to the man who throws things for advice and wisdom. He doesn't need skill points and will saves

Shadow Lodge

OK, how ever you want to play it :)

If you dump your Int and Wis... using the build I listed, I would bump con up to 16 and your Dex to 17

Grand Lodge

Any man can simply wield a weapon, a true warrior throws them.

At this point, the hurler archetype seems to be the way to go, with the hurling rage powers being all the rage. I have several questions about this however.

I would be able to hurl a small size object (2d6 damage) if I use both hands, if I use one hand, I may only hurl a tiny sized object, the chart for falling object has no entry for tiny sized objects. Is it just simply the 2d6 but taken down a size, or are tiny objects to small to deal damage? The latter wouldn't make sense to me, but I would like to make sure.

Secondly, we live in a sad world in which boulders aren't lying around on the floor of most dungeons, and while I would be willing to lug one around, I feel like a bag of holding is where one keeps his rocks (pun... a little...). That said, it takes a move action to grab a specific thing out of a bag of holding. Quick draw says that I can draw weapons as a free action, and normal stashed items as a move (instead of a standard I believe). Finally hurling requires a full round action.

Does quick draw allow me to produce a boulder from my bag of holding as a free (or even swift) action so it can then be properly lobbed into the face of those who don't believe in the mighty power of the toss?

Didn't I see a thrower build awhile back that carried a pouch of large (or huge) size sling stones so his projectiles would count as ammo?

(I'm not saying it was legal or anything, but drawing ammo such as slingstones is a free action. It may be that ammo from a creature several sizes larger than the PC might not still be considered ammo.)

The Exchange

I was just talking privately about rock sling ammo and how it could work out.

Anyone know if a push or pull cart exist or a wheel barrel? If course they in the game, but rules and costs?

Two issues that I see with that are that which the stones would be the correct size category for sling ammo for a creature of that size, a medium sized sling stone wouldn't be considered a "medium sized object" and then we strike a crazy debate as to exactly what size the would be if I were to throw them.

The weight of hauling around a boulder is going to be a big issue as well because GMs are going to fight me on how much they weigh unless there's a chart lying around somewhere... earth elemental descriptions?

GMs are going to be mad enough as is once hurling charge happens.

EDIT: I realize I said two issues but then only discussed one. the second issue would be in the fact that I thought that sling ammunition has a negligible weight and that when you increased all those size categories you would have giant weightless rocks, but upon reading the description they do have a weight.
