Jade Regent Existing PbP (Book 3) Looking for a Divine Caster

Recruitment

Our existing campaign is in the middle of Book 3: The Hungry Storm.

We wish to recruit a divine caster to complete the group. Here are the original recruitment requirements.

The main differences are:

  • Divine caster level 8 (Druid, Oracle, Cleric preferred).
  • No equipment for now. I'll discuss with the chosen player after selection.
  • No campaign trait from the Player's Guide.
  • The background and motivation should lead to the character accepting to travel to Tian Xia and serve a sovereign (Ameiko) in her claim.
  • Avistan origins.

Here are some (spoilered) ideas, linked to the particular situation of the group, that may help you in fleshing out a character. You don't have to pick from this list. It's just meant to help a little.

Spoiler:
The group has been a few months in an Erutaki village. They have recently helped the village greatly by defeating a powerful predator, but are having some misunderstandings with the village's spiritual leader. You could have been called from another nearby village to act as mediator or judge in this matter.

Travel has been impeded by strong storms. Some caravans were lost and never made it to Kalsgard. You could be investigating the problem.

The group has had some lethal dealings with the local criminal community. These led to the disbanding of that 'syndicate'. Perhaps you feel you owe them a thanks of some sort?

One member of the group, Sorin Saldward, stayed behind in Kalsgard. Perhaps you've met him and he sent you north?

Recruitment will be open until next week. Same time and day as this post.

Spoiler:
I have an idea of a cleric of shizuru. He was just a regular orphan who was raised by an exiled Tian cleric of the deity who just passed away. His death-wish was that his foster sun would bring his ashes back to Tian so that he can rest with his ancestors.
Could this fit your idea?

Looking for another game since mine have been dying out.

It would, as long as the son has always lived in Avistan. I prefer to keep the theme of discovering a fabled and utterly different land alive, which is why I do not wish to have characters originating from Tian Xia.

Scarab Sages

I was thinking of playing a Half-elf Druid.

Ruff draft for joining story:
During the companies travels they caught the eye of a young Druid who can't wait to prove his worth. [Insert future character name here] follows the band of miscreants always staying in the shadows doing everything he has learned in his long years of training to avoid detection at all cost. At the loss of the parties Cleric he sees the opportunity he'd been waiting for and confronts the party as they contemplation their next move at the local pub.

Yep, the idea is, he has heard stories, but nothing more.

Question: IS erastil considered an appropriate diety for the region?

He's a pretty old god so it's not outside the realm of possibility.

Absolutely.

Works for me then.

This sounds great, my group never got this far in Jade Regent when we played, so I'd love to see how things turn out. I don't have my books with me at work, but when I get home I'd love to submit an Erutaki Oracle of Winter (or Waves...probably Waves).

Looking forward to it.

Hey Dreaming Warforged, gyrfalcon/Tiknesr here, from Jelani's 5th Crusade. Sounds fun!

Let me float a few options. First the long shot:
I have a gnomish juju oracle/necromancer who I got to play just long enough to fall in love with him, before his campaign died. If animating dead is out of the question (as I suspect it might be) then he's a no. Otherwise...he's a sweet, caring, odd, out-of-touch, artistic gnome...who loves to collect and arrange dried flowers and dried corpses, and to animate them by coaxing Wendo spirits into their dried bodies. I like to think of him as more out-of-touch and unable to understand why others abhor his necromancy than evil in the usual sense...but those finer points are likely lost on most he meets. If you're curious, here's his profile (which would need updating, but gives you his original backstory).

Assuming gnecromancy doesn't have a place in your campaign:
I'm also thinking of submitting a druid. Could go a few directions. Does a support/summoner/melee druid build sound like a good fit? Could a saurian shaman fit in the setting? (Could be either from the Mwangi Expanse or possibly Tolguth in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords...in which case, hey, maybe he travelled over the Crown of the World for some reason?) If a saurian shaman seems like a stretch, I could still go druid, just in a different direction.

Cheers,

Definitely not the first option :)

The second could work, if you figure the right motivation.

Looking at the group it'd be a crime not to give you an evangelist to throw all that meat around with.

Right now I'm debating between Erastil or Tsukiyo.

Especially with a Paladin in the group. ;)

Well Helikon here. This is my character so far.
Traits soon to be done. Rest too.

Backstory:

An exiled Samurai/cleric from Tian found this little boy and raised him as his own. On his deathbed he asked that his ashes would be brought to his homeland so that he can rest with his ancestors.
As a dutyful son Faffnyr did so and met Sorin Saldswad in Kaslgad. Understanding that Faffnyr would need help in the dangerous crossing he send him to find his old comrades.

Thanks Helikon. Check out the recruitment info about traits though.

Sorry missed the one trait only. Changed it.
If there is anything else you would like to adress, any hints or improvement advices, shoot!

Seila's backstory:
Borin in the cold north of Irrissen Seila was all but destined to live a hard life scrabbling a living from ice and snow.

However born an albino many in her village mistakenly believed that the little pale girl was an agent of the hells born inot this world to terrorize the living. With a frightened mob ready to burn their house and slaughter their infant child Seila's parents fled that frozen land and escaped to the lands of the Linnorm kings where they had hoped, perhaps foolishly, that they would be safe.

While Seila escaped the mob there was no way to escape her condition nor the ways in which it would affect her life. Even in a land of long nights and short days the noonday sun often burned her fragile skin and she found herself most comfortable living a nocturnal life away from the staring eyes and the burning sun.

It was during this time she discovered the night walkers of Tsukiyo, clerics and worshipers who watched over the night. More appealing to her then the harsher, more straightforward gods of her people she embraced this new found faith and the cold comfort the moonlight brought her.

BEcoming a priestess of Tsukiyo Seila all but abandoned her birth life and embraced the idea of not only adopting Tian religion but culture as well. But, there was always too much to do, too many spirits to put at ease, too many evil things using the night as a means to conceal their wretchedness. Over time she all but forgot her ambitions to visit Minkai and see the lands of her god herself. Local villages often refer to her as the maiden of the move. An image she does little to dissuade with her nocturnal habits, pale skin and dark hood she wears during the daytime.

Recently she has been called to a certain Erutaki village to investigate the missing caravans and deal with the growing criminal element in that harsh place.

Let me know if anything needs to be added/changed/clarified.

Sorry, I realize it's not super clear, but if you put the old and new information together, there is no trait.

No prob. I am sooo used to 2-3 traits...
Took that one away,too.

Everything looks in order.

As things have quietes down, I'm tempted to end the recruitment earlier.

But there might be someone workin on a character with Wednesday in mind.

Please let me know in the next 24 hours,. If I don't hear from anyone, I'll close recruitment then.

I think I have all ironed out.
If you need a backstory, I will happily write one.

Hey DW/CB, just checking in, I think the concept I was thinking about isn't as honestly as good a match for this group as an Evangelist, and I'm stretched a bit tight now anyway, so I think I'll bow out.

Hopefully I'll get to be in a game of yours in the future!

Thanks for letting me know!

Ok, time is up.

TarkXT, can Seila join us in the recruitment thread?

Thanks Helikon for your application. All the best!

No problem. I wish you all the best!
