Origins and Gencon

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

I have a circle of friends that really got into the ACG (after I impulse bought the base set!), and a few of us are going to Origins and Gencon. We just finished deck 4, and folks are really interested in their character decks and development. I've been to the cons before, but not participated in Paizo events (and the ACG is still new).

Does anyone know what kind of events/presence for the ACG to expect at Origins or Gencon? Do you think there will be official events in which our individual character decks will be relevant?

If there will be collaborative events, how do you feel about promo cards in character decks? I currently have 1 of each promo but am really tempted to buy 4 more Blessing of Zarongel from the secondary market for a full set of 5 for the box (and try to earn them).

I believe the FAQ says you can only use one of each promo in a set, so any official events wouldn't allow 5 BoZ in a deck (somehow I manage to deal it into the blessings the deck every game... I want it bad!)

I have never understood why the restriction of 1 promo applies to the blessing. I do not think that they meant this as an end all be all rule, but rather as a suggestion. I believe that the post from Mike says that he suggests that you only use one promo, but I feel that for the blessing, using the standard 5, would be acceptable. I am tempted to try the same. I don't have all of the promos, yet, but I am slowly getting there.

Here are opinions about the number of promos from both Vic and Mike.

Basically, having 1 is the intended flavor, but having more than 1 probably won't break anything (Vic recommends not character have more than 1 of each promo, so no one carrying 2 Poogs).

I think the Blessing of Zarongel would be the one that it would be "most" OK to have more than 1 if you really wanted.

As for GenCon, I can't say what Paizo's plans are because I don't know them, especially ones that would involve your character decks, but I doubt they'd have a session where you'd play with a character deck you brought along with you, just because you'd risk mixing up cards with other players and also having a group have more than the intended number of a particular card (i.e. 5 Wands of Enervation).

Of course the exception to that would be if Paizo has the Organized Play Character decks ready for GenCon. I can easily see them wanting you to bring that if you already have it. After all, the kind of event is the sort of thing the Organized Play Character Decks were designed for.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

At Origins, we will have RotR demos (for new players—not really of value to those of you who know how to play) and an S&S demo scenario (of value to new and current players). We *may* have an ongoing RotR game for current players.

At Gen Con, we will have the above, and we will also be debuting our organized play program. Keep an eye on the Paizo blog for details about that.

Bringing your current character is not useful for any of these things.

Thanks for the info!

I did not know Organized Play was in the works, so that is exciting!
