Caitas: The Perfect City Recruitment

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 90 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

3 people marked this as a favorite.

This city is perfect. No money, no sickness, no premature death, no pain. You live in this city, and everything is going great. You might have an assigned spouse, you have a job that fits you perfectly, and you have everything you could ever need. It’s a perfect world. Or is it…?

I am looking for 3 to 4 people to run an untraditional homebrew campaign. It’s a Utopian adventure filled with interesting social situations and later on combat.

If you are interested, here are the creation guidelines:

Actual characters:

Allowed Races:
Any Core + Aasimar, Catfolk, Ifrit, Kitsune, Oread, Samsaran, Sylph, Undine
Allowed Classes:
NO Gunslingers or Summoners

All alignments are allowed, with proper explanation (though you will have a N alignment until you realize your full potential.)

Be creative! I don't just look for good party composition when choosing players, I look for characters that are fun and creative. And I LOVELOVELOVE party dynamics.(Just remember, everyone gets along until you awake.)
Build Guidelines:
Paizo material only – no 3rd party
15 point buy
Level 2
HP: roll or PFS-style. Choose at character creation. Max Starting HP.
1 Trait
No starting gold
No drawbacks

However, for the first part of this campaign, you will be playing pre-gens I make for your specific character. Remember, you live in a Utopian society that needs no weapons, so why would there be a fighter there? I will set up your pre-gen specific to your build, but you will be nerfed a bit. Until you reach your full potential, you will have no weapons training and no magic.

The city itself is in a demi-plane that has dead magic, however, you few have magic burning in your hearts (even if you are, say, a barbarian); you are different from everyone else you just don’t know it yet. You will awake from the slumber that this city has laid upon you.

Sounds interesting. I could make an Alchemist for this; it seems like it'd fit well.

Cool! :) It will be interesting making your "in city" character. :)

So do we just make an 'awakened' personality for our character, what with you making pregens for us?

What level will we awaken at? I have a concept in mind that calls for at least 4th level and a houserule that allows the Vestigial Arms from the Alchemist discovery to be able to be used in combat.

the only question is, with a no gold economy, how do we gain weapons? And how do we start with weapons, or do we start with nothing?

You start with what you need in the city. You will eventually leave the city, where you will find your true self. Until then, you don't know what weapons are and have no reason to have them. You have to make it out of the demi plane to fulfill your true selves.

You awaken at lvl 2. And yes, you make your character, I make the "perfect" you for you to play until after leaving the city and reaching a place at which you can train.

Scarab Sages

My curiosity is stirred. Pondering.

So we tell you what we want to be, class and race, you make it with the buy points and everything, then we modify it after a certain point?

I'm going for a slyph ranger (+dex and int, my 2 favorite skills). I usually have con set at 10, so I would be taking 2 buy to counteract the negative 2. I don't value cha, but I value some cha skills(mainly bluff and diplomacy), so I sometimes stat drop it, but put skill points into cha skills.

oh, and when I roleplay races with higher starting ages, I usually say they are older but they look the age of a 15 year old human. For example, human starting age is 15 and slyph is 60, so a 60 year old slyph looks like a 15 year old human in terms of age or an 80 year old slyph looks like a 20 year old human in terms of age, not a 80 year old slyph looks 80 when I make my character.

Reason: When I make a race that has a much higher starting age I enjoy roleplaying an older character that crushes on younger characters, as long as they are legal age and pathfinder says 15 or older is legal age. You'll see me roleplaying an elf that crushes on humans and half-elves. A slyph that crushes on humans and half-elves. When I play the older races, older than half-elf, I rarely crush on my own race or any race that is older than my character.

Scarab Sages

I'm trying to come up with a good persona or character profile before I decide on any class or race.

I'm thinking old right now. Adventurers are always so young

That's something. I'll propose an older (at least middle aged) character. Maybe bard (aiming for Pathfinder Chronicler) or maybe scroll-based wizard. The town historian and likable old guy. :)

I'm brainstorming ideas for a kitsune. Thinking maybe rogue or ninja... probably going to grab the Fox Shape feat. (Having a rogue/ninja who can sneak around as a seemingly innocent fox could be lots of fun.) Probably Chaotic Good. So, most of her lockpicking was more pulling pranks than stealing. (Also doing research on fox colors, just to see what she could look like in her true form.) Not sure what trait fits yet.

I'm marking interest in this. I'm new to pbp, but I love the idea of this campaign.
question though: are you ok with the variant traits of the different races? if so would that include the variants of the Aasimar?

okay guys. Basically what I want you to do is make your character sheet like you normally would. I will then choose who I want to be in the campaign and make my character sheet for you to use until you reach the point where you become the character that you made. It's a bit complex I know, but I'm going to explain it as best I can if you have any questions leave them here or pm me. we will discuss the character sheet that I make for you while you're in the city to make sure that you're okay with it I'm not going to stick you with something that you're not going to be happy playing for a few weeks because it's going to take a little while feed ice actually become the characters that you're making. I want to be fun and different I don't want to upset anyone. So any questions just leaving here or PM me.

I will answer everybody's questions whenever I get home. I'm posting from my phone right now. Yes I do allow variant race types I just need to see where you're going with it. I'll do an audit on everybody's character sheet before hand and get back to you if I think anything needs to be fixed, changed, or tweeked in any way.

I think the idea of older characters is pretty cool specially for crushing on younger characters. Like some kind of like the pervert of the group. That's always a fun dynamic.

Scarab Sages

If I were to go Middle age (which I'm planning on right now), do you want to use the -1 physical +1 mental stat adjustments, or ignore them? I've seen it both ways, thus I ask.

Alright! Back home! :)

@Grixus Nox: Variants are fine, as long as they are Paizo material.

@TaliaKirana: I gotcha on the fox colors. Depends on what kind. :)

This is Choon.

Regin Ald is my Character's name. Writing things down so he doesn't forget is his game. His tendency to do this developed from a memory issue that cropped up in childhood, but it has served him very well in his 176 years. He has notes and diagrams on just about everything imaginable, and is not shy about imparting his sage wisdom.

I'm thinking scroll master wizard or just plain vanilla wizard who focuses on scrolls and a high UMD so he can use ALL scrolls, not just arcane ones. He doesn't have the stats to really take a scroll master into melee, but I might take the archetype anyway because I've always loved the flavor.

It won't be a problem that I'm still fairly new to Pathfinder, will it? I think I've gotten a grasp on the basics, but I may have to ask for help occasionally. (I'm working on building her, it's just taking a little time.)

Scarab Sages

I'm having trouble getting Regin just right too, so don't feel bad. If I really pour myself into a character (especially at higher levels) it can take me a couple weeks to get everything right. Thankfully we're only starting at 2.

@Choon: Sounds good. :)

@TaliaKirana: Not at all! And if you need help, just let me know. :)

Scarab Sages

I am also available for questions, if you wish (and if Sanya isn't against it). Creating characters is one of my favorite parts of Pathfinder, and I don't mind helping in the least.

@Choon: Of course not! :)

But should I be an alchemist or a barbarian to start nooo~

my build is a Barbarian 2/Fighter 1/Alchemist 17, based entirely around the Vestigial Arms discovery and a houserule that allows them to used in combat.

If this won't work, I can create an Arcane Bomber instead.

This looks highly interesting. If I make up any character I'm bringing my Ifirit Oracle of Metal 'Magic Blacksmith' Ideal if possible, because it was both a fun concept, and fun in playing~ Which works even without the need for weapons now that I think about it. Every city needs spoons XP

can we take the additional traits feat for 2 more traits?

This sounds FUN!

If there's still room, I want to play an Investigator (new playtest not the rogue archetype) who doesn't use the bluff skill at all.

I'd like to play as a human (age 28 and GN alignment) with stats as 13/16/11/18/10/7 (or something else so long as I can tweak them anew at lvl 2) with skill points in perception/motive/diplomacy/craft alchemy/knowledge skills.

As for trait, definitely want clever wordplay (so that I can still do diplomacy even with using charisma as a dump stat!)

I don't play on Sundays, but I can post multiple times a day Monday - Saturday. Would that be a problem?

Character name: Dan Eyel

While I'm not yet experienced in creating a back story, basically I'd be playing as a librarian who loves reading and had read extensively (hence skill monkey with points in the multiple knowledge categories) but deliberately strives never to tell a lie (but doesn't proactively always answer any question either) and doesn't use intimidate except in special circumstances where feeling righteous indignation.

Basically I want to roleplay a righteous just yet merciful and honest character =).

Is there room?

Scarab Sages

So far there has been one character alias post, and the rest are in process. If you wish to propose your character, go for it, but GM hasn't ruled on playtest classes yet.

What exactly would a GM be looking for in an alias? I've extensively read through the core, advanced core books and rule books and played a few sessions at a local store but this would be my first PbP.

And since you state you're available for help in creating a character, what additional guidelines outside of the PFS ruleset would I want to take into consideration when putting forth a character for consideration here?

Hmm... probably should have REREAD the character creation guidelines heh ^_^. Got too excited!

Shadowed Knight here, While the info is lacking this will be the alias I use for the character and will update all the info to. Need to hit the hay, but will be updating at least backstory and description when I awaken.

Scarab Sages

Martain: I would suggest working out a theme and character before the build. This feels like a very character/story driven game. Once you have a solid grip on the character in your head, choose race, class, etc. to fit. I'm not trying to suggest your character is unworthy of the running or anything like that. I was just making you aware that playtest material is generally not considered allowed until stated otherwise.

As for Alias info, feel free to take a look at mine. It is incomplete at the moment, but should give you an idea. The methods and formats vary wildly, but as long as it's readable or the GM requests a specific format whatever works for you should be fine. If you're planning a more martial character, feel free to look at my alias "Olivius Telraven"

All opinions expressed in this post are Choon's alone and he reserves the right to be completely wrong at any time.

Oh, and welcome to PbP. :)

This guy's almost done. Just need to type up the actual character info and choose an arcane school to follow. None match wonderfully with a scroll-focused character, to my surprise.

Scarab Sages

By the way, GM, how long did you plan to run recruitment?

This is Martain and I created a bio/theme and a character page! Did I do ok?

An employee of the city herb and potion shop where he's learned which herbs and compounds are... NOT good for use via his supervisors tendency to use Danyel as a guinee pig for his latest creations.

While his employer is goodhearted and always ensures there are various remedies on hand should the latest concoction prove to be... unfriendly (*cough* mildly poisonous *cough*), Danyel spends as much time hiding out in the local library where he's exhausted most of the material there.

While this has lead to a wide knowledge base on a wide variety of not always useful topics, it has also honed his intelligence to a razer sharp degree. In addition to a developing eidetic memory, Danyel has developed a talent for languages and has learned a number of languages spoken by city residents.

Alas, the time spent with his head in a book has it's drawbacks. He recognizes that he's not the most charismatic fellow and that he's rather plain looking but does his best to make up for all that by striving to be honest and sincere which is good because he's a terrible liar.

@Choon/Regin Ald - Would you look over my character if you get a chance and tell me if I'm formatting my character's page wrong at all? I like how you're doing yours but I thought she said we weren't starting with any gold yet your pc has all this nice equipment! I also noticed you selected 2 traits, didn't she mention we could only have one? Am I missing something? (Because I'd love to get my hands on another trait!)

@Sanya - I really hope I can have yours be my first PbP and I'm confident my character will have lots of flavor =). I hope an investigator is acceptable seeing as its a hybrid of an Alchemist and a Rogue but please let me know if its a no go. Also, I really won't play on Sunday though so if that's a make or break please let me know so I can keep looking elsewhere =(

*post updated multiple times seeing as no one else has posted since my post yet as of the time wanting to update and I figured I'd save space by simply adding more to this one

This is Talia's character. Yeah it's incomplete, but I'm working on it. I'm not sure the stats are final, they're kinda placeholders at the moment. I know I definitely want to keep the Cha 13, so I can grab Fox Shape as soon as possible. I'm thinking I might base her appearance on what's referred to as a silver fox. (The black with silver highlights suits a sneaky kitsune in my mind. I picture her human form hair matching that.)

This looks really interesting. I have a couple ideas that might work. Don't suppose you're willing to tip your hand on whether "perfect" versions of people are going to be ironic opposites? That'd narrow things down quite a bit.

As would knowing if I'm getting into this other game where I submitted a bloodrager. No full BAB types in here yet, but I don't really want to have two going at once. Should be finding out about that shortly.

Sound like the matrix much ;)
Im interested, let me look a bit :)

Scarab Sages

Martian:
You are correct on the trait count. I missed the one trait thing last night.
GM mentioned above that we are to create our characters at level 2 with starting gold and such. She'll give you a stat block with nothing. :)

I'll look over your character when I get a chance.

Edit: Copy/Pasteing stats from HeroLabs is also generally acceptable. I see no mechanical flaws, so GM will have to give you advise.

@GM Gadget: Im sorry, but I dont have that house rule. I feel like it would be more difficult for me. SO I cant allow it.

@Choon: I will probably run recruitment for another day or so. Anyone who has expressed interest already has leway when making characters, but since it will take me about a day or two to audit and create the starting characters based off of y'alls characters I want to have all of the applicants in asap so I can make my decision.
tl;dr: Probably friday unless I have found the people I want.

@ Danyel: Im gld you are having Choon look over your character sheet, I will too if you get picked. Also, I dont normally post on Sundays either. My quita if you will for the posts are once to twice a day on weekdays, depending on schedule, and once for the weekend. Saturday or Sunday. The librarian thing is cool. If you get in, that will be your job in the "perfect city" :) The real world doesnt have libraries sadly enough. :(

@Mizuki: Sounds great. Don't worry about it being incomplete, it doesnt have to be done by Saturday if you are picked.

@Kaila: Awesome. I will look at it soon.

@ all: If I havent answered your question please bring it to my attention. I am ill at the moment so not quite at my best. I will look over everyones character.

Take into consideration that you will begin this campaign in the perfect world. The backstory I give you ISNT your backstory, its the one you have come to believe about yourself. I hope that doesnt upset anyone.

BTW we wont be using gold, we will be using bottlecaps, because I love fallout.

Scarab Sages

I don't suppose you'll tell us what we can expect of the "outside"?

Of course not. :P

What about telling us a bit about life inside the city? Wana write up a back-story that fits the city, but still know next to nothing about it; on the bright side Kalia Ironhand, Descendent of Salamanders; has her appearance finished off. Moved away from the traditional 'Genie' ancestry.

Other Racial Traits

Breeze-Kissed Breezes seem to follow most sylphs wherever they go, but some sylphs are better able to control these winds than others. A Sylph with this racial trait surrounds herself with swirling winds, gaining a +2 racial bonus to AC against non-magical ranged attacks. The Sylph can calm or renew these winds as a swift action. Once per day, the Sylph can channel this wind into a single gust, making a bull rush or trip combat maneuver attempt against one creature within 30 feet. Whether or not the attempt succeeds, the winds are exhausted and no longer provide a bonus to the sylph's AC for 24 hours. This is a supernatural ability. This racial trait replaces air affinity.

Backstory:
Akran was always the person told what to do. He like his freedom, but he lets people push him around. Even though Akran lives in a perfect world, it sacrifices something he values...freedom. Perfect worlds have rules just like any other world, and to have that perfect world, he can't choose his job or anything else. He understand that he might be good at it and it might be a good match for him, but that does not mean he enjoys his job or anything else assigned to him. He was also assigned a spouse who he is not married to yet. The problem isn't that she is ugly, but because Akran likes them young. Another Slyph and she is 15 years older than him. Akran felt like he wasn't good enough for her and her personality isn't his favorite either, it's not bad though, and he is suppose to marry her in 2 years. He wants out of the marriage, he wants a new job and he wants a new life. The community argued that since he didn't have good social skills he would be able to get these other things. Akran fought back, "Well, I'm a motivational speak." And he was in a way, despite not being very social he was diplomatic, but that wasn't his job. Akran feels like he is pushed around by this perfect world. He has so much more to accomplish. He is strong, though not macho man, athletic and a quick learner. He has never seen any weapons, but he could easily learn how to use them if he saw them, I mean with all the things he has learned to do easily it would be no challenge for him. He learned how to play chess well and can skip rocks making them travel a good twenty feet after hitting the water. Akran wants to put his talents and skills to good use, but he doesn't know if he will ever get the chance

@DoubleGold: looks good at a glance I'll give it a more thorough look if I pick you. :)

Basically everyone starts out as my drones. You think you think for yourself, but know nothing of how the real world actually works. You don't know the real world actually exists. In this, you don't actually have a backstory. You MAKE your backstory as you go. Remember, you wont be the real you until you completely awaken, so the time you are getting there you are making the backstory. That is why you get a "perfect" copy of yourself, thats your starting point; your birth if you will. You forge your backstory as you go for the real you.

Pathfinder Pathfinder Accessories Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I am interested and will definately come up with concept and post later today.

@Jazzai: Awesome! :)

Here I am still being indecisive. So... here's 3 mini-pitches. I'll flesh out whichever seems like the most interesting fit.

Kinh Lestari, NG Human Reincarnated Druid

Spoiler:
Really open-minded, wants to experience new things, big on travel and self-reinvention. Stats: 12/10/10/8/18/14 Skills: Acrobatics, Diplomacy, Fly, Survival. Trait: World Traveller.

Qari Coldember, TN/CG Ifrit Bloodrager

Spoiler:
Normally extremely calm, demure, soft-spoken, and something of a dull-witted doormat. When touchy subjects are breeched or lives are endangered however, the literal fire in her blood causes a dramatic shift in her personality, leaving her a decidedly strong-willed, passionate, violent woman who shouts whatever may be on her mind in a rather self-righteous tone... most likely appologizing profusely after calming down. Stats: 16/16/13/7/5 Skills: Acrobatics, Intimidate Trait: Axe to Grind

Pashe Zircani, LG Oread Monk

Spoiler:
Completely and utterly rejects materialism and urban life. Would take the vow of poverty trait if the book of exalted deeds were legal. As is, still likely to just sleep on the ground, turn down rewards, hunt her own food, etc. Stats: 18/12/10/8/16/8 Skills: Acrobatics, Climb, Survival. Trait: Child of Nature.
