Logging in Golarion

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

So what does the logging industry look like in Golarion?

How do they transport the big logs (wagons? dragging them along wire cables like more modern times? sending them down a river?)?

Do they have sawmills (if so, how are they powered?)? Or is it mostly men cutting them to proper dimensions?

Any more info you could add would be appreciated too.

The Rune Lords AP has a saw-mill as an adventure location. The logs are floated down the river from a forest up-stream and the saw was powered by a water-wheel in the mill.
In the forest they would probably use axes and saws, and probably oxen or draft horses to drag the logs.
Logging is also described a bit in the Darkmoon Vale book and Falcon's Hollow modules. The river is again used to transport the logs to the nearest large city for milling.

What Jeven said. Think colonial north america for logging technology. Water-powered sawmills and cutyards. Rivers used to transport logs and rough-cut boards.

I'll chime in to say that the lumber industry Jeven describes is controlled by the Lumber Consortium, which is a major political force in Andoran and a fairly amoral group as a whole.

I suggest you look at the wiki article on it.

Meanwhile, the logging industry in Taldor operates based on treaties between the Taldan government and druid groups, with loggers having to obey strict quotas but not being harassed by the druids. The gnome settlement of Wispil is notable out of the Taldan logging operations, as it sends timber down to Cassomir, where it is used to build the ships of the Taldan navy.
