Grab + Spring Attack: Are you coming with me or not?

Rules Questions

So I have a random rules question that I would like some expert opinions on. How does Grab interact with Spring Attack? If I hit with my attack in Spring Attack and successfully start the grapple via Grab, what happens then? Am I forced to stop if I want to hold the grapple, or does my new friend get to come along with me?

Any thoughts?

A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity.

As both of you gain the grappled condition after the successful grab, I'd rule that you would stop moving if you wanted to maintain the grapple.

Grand Lodge

You can move a creature you have grappled if you successfully maintain the grapple, which is a standard action. Spring Attack is a full-round action, so it's most unlikely you can take a standard action in the same round, much less in the middle of your full-round. You would stop moving and end your Spring Attack.

I don't believe Spring Attack would combine with Grapple. It states that as a full round action, you may take one melee attack during your movement.

Grapple doesn't count as a melee attack I believe. Otherwise, we could use it with AoOs.

Dark Archive

Feat: Rapid Grappler

Allows you to move, attack, or pin after a successful Grapple as a swift action.

You move in to grapple, you succeed, you make another grapple check to move as a swift action.

Dark Archive

nevermind that is for maintaining a grapple

Silver Crusade

After a successful grab attempt, you would both gain the grappled condition and you would lose the remainder of your movement.

What if you used the hold ability of grab (at a -20)? Then you would not gain the grappled condition.

Silver Crusade

While you wouldn't have the grappled condition, you would not be able to take the foe with you as that still requires a grapple check, which having used a full round action to spring attack, you would not be able to do.

It does if you have the Grab ability, which is covered under the monster rules.

RAW no you can't keep moving because you can't take any other grappling actions (such as Move) as part of initiating a grapple. And the rules are pretty clear about it.
