Just announced, sounds incredible. It's been about 20 years since Alpha Centauri, and overdue for a more sci-fi Civ experience.

Looks like something I could pull another all-nighter with.
Very curious to about this one as well; I do wonder how much of the concepts of Alpha Centauri might bleed into it. I never got a chance to really get into original version.
That being said, I thought this commentary on the potential new game and its Alpha Centauri roots was interesting.
I do hope that they do a good job on this. I have been playing SMAC since it came out and am still playing at times.
Even though the setting will be different, let's hope they can achieve the same level of narrative of SMAC.
The gameplay in that game was great, but it was the way the setting and the story unfolded and entwined with your playthrough that made it a true masterpiece.
I always loved how each faction was more than just a set of themed bonuses, instead having a very well-developed story about the flaws and virtues of mankind seen from different angles. And the way they all reacted to the nature of Planet and the paths taken by the rebuilders was really fantastic.
