Weapon Damage at Increased Size

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

Howdy Pathfinders!

Alright, after looking through the rule books and searching the web I'm stumped. My character has a Large Bastard Sword that deals 2d8 damage. Thanks to various spells I can increase this damage.

So, what does the damage of a 2d8 weapon look like as it increases size?

THanks guys!

Scroll down past the weapon lists.

Silver Crusade

Thanks, Barnes. I'm guessing beyond 3d8 it just turns into 4d8, correct?

Sovereign Court

Yeah, what does 3d8 turn into anyway?

huge 3d8 -> gargantuan 4d8 -> colossal 6d8

Where are you getting those numbers from?

Hmm. That's a pretty obscure source. And that table is weird

Most of the time, 1d8 becomes 2d6. But if there's 1d10 anywhere, it's a little strange.

This is the 3rd time this question has been asked this week. I find it hilarious.

Generally damage dice double every other size increase, whether it is a natural or manufactured weapon. Exceptions exist.

1d2 => 1d3 => 1d4 => 1d6 => 1d8 => 2d6 => 3d6 => 4d6 => 6d6 => 8d6 => 12d6 => 16d6 => 24d6

The Bastard Sword is tricky, but as long as you follow the "doubles every other size increase" precedent you should be good.

The reason 1d8 becomes 2d6 is that d4's become d6's and 1d8 and 2d4 are treated the same for the damage jump. Im sure there is a similar logic for the 1d10 to 2d8 jump but im not clear what it is.

I'd imagine:

d10 (bastard sword)
2d8 (large bastard sword)
2d10(huge bastard sword)
4d8 (gargantuan bastard sword)
4d10(colossal bastard sword)
8d8 (with Lead Blades)

Using this method you can compare a colossal greatsword (a 2H weapon) that does 8d6 to a colossal bastard sword (with Lead Blades) that does 8d8.

That's very similar to comparing a medium greatsword (2d6) to a large bastard sword (2d8), so the "doubles every other category" suits the odd dice weapons, too.

Here is the best example of increasing damage dice

Bastard Sword goes 1d10->2d8->3d8->4d8->6d8->8d8->12d8
