Can a Wizard / Magus prepare appropriate wizard spells as magus spells?

Rules Questions

There's a bit of an argument at my table about a multiclass character who's been preparing his wizard spells as if they were magus spells, so I want to know, is it possible to prepare shield (learned at character creation in the wizard's spellbook) as if it were a magus spell?

I am not understanding the question, I don't think.

So far as I can tell, strictly as-designed, the character has two spellbooks, and if they want to use magus spell slots for a spell, they have to have it in their magus spellbook. But if it's on the magus spell list, and they know it as a wizard, they can scribe a scroll of it and then use the scroll to learn the spell as a magus...

It has to be learned as a wizard spell and a magus spell. As an example a 4th level wizard spell may be a 6th level magus spells meaning it takes up 6 pages for the magus and a six level slot. Now thematically that would seem to suggest the magus version is not as easy to learn or apply metamagic feats to and that difference has to be accounted for.

He would have to have the spell scribed over to his Magus spellbook, but it should only cost the scribing costs, no extra fees, no need to buy a scroll of the spell, so shield, as a first level spell in both books, would only cost 10 gp, and a DC 16 Spellcraft check, to scribe over.

Think of the Wizard spells as written in Latin, and the Magus spells as written in Greek.

As soon as you translate one into the other, and from one book to the other, you're golden.

Alternatively, suggest/require he (or she) pick up Broad Study (Ultimate Magic Magus Arcana that requires level 6 Magus and levels in another caster class) as the arcana allows for the magus to use spell combat, spell strike, and pretty much all other magus abilities with the spells. You still have the arcane spell failure chance from using spells that aren't learned as a Magus as well, which leads me to thinking that RAW for Magus = any spells learned before becoming a Magus cannot be cast in armor nor used with Magus abilities.

A magus can copy a spell from a wizard spellbook, so they are identical.
I think that you don't need to copy it two times as long as they maintain the same level in the two classes (and Wraithstrike, the magus isn't the summoner, he get spells at the same spell level at which a wizard get them [at least the spells listed in Ultimate Magic]).

At worse he would have to copy the spell from his wizard spellbook to his magus spellbook (or vice versa).
Copying a spell you know cost half of the normal price and time and don't require a spellcraft check. After you have made a spellcraft check to understand a spell you understand it forever.

A magus can learn spells from a wizard's spellbook, just as a wizard can from a magus's spellbook. The spells learned must be on the magus spell list, as normal. An alchemist (see the Alchemist description) can learn formulae from a magus's spellbook, if the spells are also on the alchemist spell list. A magus cannot learn spells from an alchemist.

Broad Study (Ex): The magus selects another one of his spellcasting classes. The magus can use his spellstrike and spell combat abilities while casting or using spells from the spell list of that class. This does not allow him to cast arcane spells from that class's spell list without suffering the normal chances of arcane spell failure, unless the spell lacks somatic components. The magus must be at least 6th level and must possess levels in at least one other spellcasting class before selecting this arcana.

Completely different thing, and it will not resolve the initial question. Depending on how you interpret the rules the wizard/magus would still be unable to memorize the spells learned as a wizard in his magus slots until he has copied them in his magus spellbook or he will be able to do it without the need to copy them.

wizard books in wizard slots only
magus book in magus slots only.

No cross over at all. The only way to have one class cross with another is mystic theurge's weird ability to do something similarish.

If we are understanding this post correctly you're not asking anything about spellbooks but more can he use the spells and spell slots from his wizard levels with the spellstrike/spellcombat ability he gets from his Magus level?

If so then the answer is no, he cannot.
Refer to highlighted portion below.

Magus, Spell Combat: What spells can I cast when using spell combat?

The relevant text of the ability is:

"As a full-round action, he can make all of his attacks with his melee weapon at a –2 penalty and can also cast any spell from the magus spell list with a casting time of 1 standard action (any attack roll made as part of this spell also takes this penalty)."

The spell you cast when using spell combat has to be a magus spell you know, and it must be a magus spell prepared with one of your magus spell slots.

(Other magus abilities may modify what spells can be used with spell combat. For example, the broad study magus arcana explicitly states the magus can use spell combat to cast spells from the selected non-magus spellcasting class.)

He actually is talking about spellbooks, but I think other posters already answered that question.

No, all spells are tracked separately, as if he was two different characters.
