So, roger what's it gonna be?

Lore Warden or Weapon Master, Mobile Fighter or Free Hand Fighter? Or Swashbuckler? Ranger?

If you want to go Duelist or TWF check out the recent Main Gauche thread.

On the origin of scimitars:
A thing that's easy to miss in the flurry of things is that the weapon list in Pathfinder is largely abstractions of real-world weapons, frequently not limited or even related to the real-world name counterpart.

For instance in Pathfinder the Greatsword is a collective noun for a variety of weapons - Claymores, Zweihänder etc. The defining fact is that it's straight bladed, double edged, and can only be used with two hands.

Similarly, the scimitar should be seen as a collective noun for a variety of swords defined by having a curved blade with a length in between that of a cutlass and a falchion - the traditional middle-eastern scimitar certainly qualifies. So does numerous blades that appeared in other cultures: the Aldaspan (Turkey), the Kampilan (Philippines), the Karabela (Poland), the Pulwar (Afghanistan), the cavalry sabre (most of Europe and North America), and the Talwar (India) to name a few.

While Sarenrae is certainly commonly associated with the scimitar, the two are not bound together any more than the longsword is bound to Iomedae. A druid from Arcadia who's never heard of Sarenrae might not call the edged sword she's carrying a scimitar, but she's still proficient with it.

Any culture that uses (horse-based) cavalry has an excellent chance of either developing or adapting and using the scimitar, whether or not they are familiar with Sarenrae's teachings.

Personally I always found it amusing that the feat that catapults the scimitar to the forefront of the popularity contest doesn't really play on the strengths of the weapon's design - the scimitar is primarily intended to be used from horseback.

Man, this ended up being a long post, so I'm spoilerizing to avoid too much thread-jacking.

Ditto.

I was going to reply, but... You know what, DMW, let's just agree to disagree. We have completely different takes on this subject and ours posts are just getting longer and more tiresome.

See you in the next Weapon Finesse thread, I guess... :P

Not really, there were plenty of curved swords used by infantry. The sabre eventually supplanted rapier-like weapons in Western armies after experiences fighting in the Middle East and India. Admittedly, that didn't happen until the late eighteenth century.

Yeah that's probably fair.

Maybe not if the ACG fixes the issue...
