I'm wanting to come up with a chance for handicap to replace dying, so if you die and don't have means to come back then instead of auto death you would get to roll on a chart that looks something like this
.
1-25% lose eye
26-50% lose arm
51-75% lose leg
76-100% death
The part I'm nervous about is trying to balance the effects each loss has, so I thought I'd ask you good folks what you think. I'll jot down a starting point but please discuss better ways to balance
Eye: -5 perception, half range for ranged attacks (max is still same)
Hand: obviously no gripping with a second hand
Leg: (with prosthetic) -10' to speed
Reducing speed by 10' on someone who only has 20' move armored is pretty detrimental, but theyd just have to start wearing different armor, like pimped out light armor
Some people might loathe this idea but I think it might he fun, so if you have ideas to balance here it would be appriciated

Assuming you mean for Pathfinder RPG, there was an injury variant introduced with Skull & Shackles which I quite liked and I expanded on slightly for my campaign if you want to have a look.
Otherwise there were called shot rules introduced in (I think) Ultimate Combat which could help to provide ideas for mechanical effects of loss of body parts.

nice! I like that a lot. Can I find that chart in book 3 of skull and shackles then?

The chart is on page 4 of the Skull and Shackles player's guide. As written, it's meant to replace death by massive damage and no death by dropping to -Con HP, though
Correct. I tweaked it a little for my game, I prefer PCs to not die excessively especially if a lot of effort has gone into RP. At the same time I want there to be the threat of injury / death.
Edit: I also don't use death by massive damage in my campaigns either.
