Warpriest and Fighter Traits

Rules Questions

So, I made a Warpriest in Hero lab. The Defender of the Society trait came up as selectable, thus I did it. A GM is telling me that I can't select the trait since Warpriests aren't technically fighters.

Are combo classes able to select traits that they are a part of the class for? Are you allowed to take fighter traits as a Warpriest? I looked in the Field Guide and Adv. Playtest Class Guide, but can't find anything on this.

Scarab Sages

Since Swashbuckler and Brawler specifically state they can take fighter only feats and warpriest does not I would not allow a warpriest to take a fighter only feat or trait.

Hopefully this will be made clear in the release version.

That makes sense. I'll just change it to boring old Reactionary then.

Here's the thing.

There are no "fighter only" traits.

In fact, I don't recall seeing ANY class-restricted traits at all.

Traits sometimes boost specific class abilities, and do nothing if you do not have said class ability, but that does not prevent you from taking the trait anyway.

I seem to recall there being a splatbook with such traits, but I don't know any more than that.

Well, even if there are class-restricted traits, Defender of the Society is not one of them.

There's no pre-requisites. Take it and be happy.

Defender of the Society (Fighter, Society)

Pretty sure it is Fighter specific.

It is from the faction guide, and there are traits specific to each class.

Those traits appeared both in Faction Guide and in Shattered Star. In the Faction Guide, they were class restricted and in Shattered Star, they were not.

Whether they are class restricted depends on which version your GM is willing to use.

If this is PFS, only the Faction Guide versions are legal.

Yes, you're correct. Thanks for pointing that out.
