If a kobold has the dragon-scaled alternate racial trait and the golden scales trait, does he get his resistance from a golden dragon (fire resistance) or does he choose a color even if he has optical golden scales?
Or would you say that those two abilities are just not compatible?
Your distinctive golden scales strongly reflect the light, making other kobolds mistrust you, but aboveground races favor you.
Benefit: You take a –1 penalty on Bluff checks and Diplomacy checks when dealing with other kobolds, but a +2 bonus on Bluff checks and Diplomacy checks when dealing with non-reptilian humanoids.

The idea is playing a dragon herals bard. Those have to choose one dragon whose glory to extol. Depending on this dragon's variant they get energy resistance that stacks with racial energy resistance.
Now I'm unsure of how to go about. Should I take the same resistance from dragon-scaled and dragon herald to have them stack or should I take different kinds and add in mixed scales to have three resistances which I then could increase by taking the unscathed magic trait.
But prior to this decision I wanted to know whether it works that way, at all.
Benefit: Each type of energy resistance you have (if any) increases by 2 points.
But worst case I have to scratch golden scales and get my diplomacy bonus from elsewhere.

I am looking for more kobold info since they hinted at something and didnt elaborate but as far as your question goes just look at Metalics and how they pair up to Chromatics. The traits, if your GM isnt a stiffler, leave room for fiddling with since if you wanted to play with both, The red scales and having the gold background is reasonable. Alternitively if you didnt wanna be gold, silver is reasonable and compareable to white. You get the idea. The trait bonus is not important enough for the species of dragon to matter.
It should just say pick one of the Metallic colors....
