I thought this was just a sandbox style mini-megadungeon with an optional multipart fetch quest to lead to a climactic lich confrontation.

How will this be the best "meet the Lost Lands" book? Is the Player's Guide a basic player's world setting guide?

I already have a bunch of Necromancer modules but I'm fairly interested in Lost Lands world info and sourcebooks.

I think that what he means is for around 40 bucks you get a very decent sized low-level module (introductory part) and a sizable urban area and wilderness of the Lost Lands. Keeping in mind that this book has been out of print for some time (re:not available) and is in a 3.5 format.

The "meet the Lost Lands" describes that it's a good stepping stone to jump into the Lost Lands - this isn't the release all of the Lost Lands campaign setting in one book or PG, just a part of that upcoming Campaign world with a solid low-level adventure and low price point (unlike RA or TSAR) as an investment.

Well, I'm a little late to the party, but I'm in as of this past weekend. This is my first kick starter and will be my first product under the PF system (other than core rules material) with converting our group over from 3.5.

I ran Rappan Athuk's first 2 books back in 3.0 and loved it, eventhough my guys nearly threw a soda in my face after the 2nd TPK.

Anyways, I'm really impressed with what I've seen so far from FGG and their community of fans. The material looks great and I can't wait to get my hands on the discounted material listed in the backerkit.

Cheers.

Roflmao! Yeah, I lose more players over Rappan Athuk and Tsar! They can't handle losing characters. I killed one on Saturday that was unconscious, but it was a Flailing Dreadnaught so it was going to attack everything in the area alive, breathing or not! I got excited when I crit so two of them are like, "You are rejoicing over killing your wife's character?!?" Sure, why not? She failed to heal herself and she was the party cleric.

I've been looking forward to picking up RA 'cause I'm running a homebrewed megadungeon but hearing tales of the lethality I'm second guessing. I had a character death this past weekend in my homebrew and I felt like a jerk as it was happening.

character death:
3 PCs making their third delve in and they're stuck deciding which of 9 entrances to take when they come upon a snare trap in the woods. They purposely set it off to lure out the trappers and it works; out comes a small band of goblins. No big deal right?

The trap is watched by a bigger predator: a wyvern

The thing flies up overhead and the last 2 goblins take it on the lam. 2 of the PCs follow suit and speed into the woods for cover. The paladin flicks on smite, readies an action and mutters "get some." The dragon obliges, takes one on the chin from the holy knight and the fight is on.

It was over before it began.

The paladin failed his first Fort save and several afterwards. The creature managed a full attack for one round and TORE UP the paladin! But that's not where he died.

The party returns, fights the creature and it grapples the unconscious paladin and starts flying away. The party uses ranged attacks, climbs a tree and channels until the paladin wakes up. The now-conscious paladin FINALLY throws off the effects of the poison and attacks with a CLUTCH critical! The beast, in frustration, spits out the paladin and stings him one more time before flying away. The paladin takes damage dropping him to 0, fails another Fort save to begin losing Con again, and is now falling from 40' up.

He's still not all the way dead.

The cleric in the tree readies an action and heals the paladin with cure light wounds as the man crashes through the tree. The 2 collide and fall the rest of the way together, landing on the rogue. All 3 take damage and the paladin is circling the drain, still losing Con to the poison. The cleric, who'd already identified the creature as a wyvern and as having a poison effect, pulls out his healer's kit and grants a +4 Fort save while the rogue is force-feeding the paladin potions of CLW. The paladin makes the first of 2 Fort saves and moves into positive hp. He just needs to make one more save; he's at 2 Con at this point.

The dice fall. The paladin blows his second save. He suffers 4 points of Con damage. It's over.

So after all that spectacular effort and having successfully driven off the wyvern, the paladin still bit it. I felt like a real heel having thrown in such a tough creature. I had applied a Simple: Young template to it but even still it was a CR 5 against an APL 1.75 party. Still, no one said the paladin had to stay and I would've had it chase them but just miss or something. But it resulted in a character death and I felt bad.

The paladin's player didn't though. He was laughing, smiling, and congratulated me on a really epic fight. He had a good time with it so I guess that's all that matters.

Anyway, after that I don't know that I'm cut out for RA. I'll still buy it of course since I've wanted the dang thing so long. But I don't know that I'll ever bring myself to run it unadulterated.

Oh, and FYI

- $2,415 gets us the iconics
- $7,415 gets us the full color map

We have 5 days. $1,483/day. I have hope. I've told all the gamers in my group, so that's 8 more guys with the potential to be customers. Let's do this.

@Mark - The character was a paladin and he would have ended up fighting to the death over something. That is really some crappy dice luck though, I can not remember a time when I had so many failed saves in a row by any of my players...they always seem to have "blessed" dice. If your player was happy with the result, then you did your job well as the arbitrator and judge and he has a story to tell for the future, cause, you know, all us gamers do that. One of the things about FGG stuff (including RA) is that one of the things players must learn early on is that not every fight is supposed to be a fight. Sometimes, you just gotta walk (err, run, really fast) away.

You shouldn't feed bad. Players should know going in to RA that their characters will die. It's only a matter of when.

It's what's fun about it!

Out of curiosity, why did

Spoiler:
the Paladin PC decide to waste his smite ability on a Wyvern? Total waste of action + no benefit whatsoever, since Wyverns are Neutral, not Evil.
Not that it seems to have mattered much in the end...

I posted this over at the KS site, a call to arms!:

"I had a thought. If all the backers out there got with their players and asked them to throw down a little support (a $5 player's guide here, maybe just a couple of dollars for the cause there) it could give us a small bump here at the end. I'm sure a lot of people have done that, but there's potential there. Even family members or friends, you could ask them to donate $1-$3 towards a game of your favorite hobby. Lots of people have Amazon accounts, it would be pretty easy.

Anyways, glad to be a part of this, I'd love to see us get to the $55K stretch goal!"

@Mark FGG stuff is not for the feint of heart. Not all players can deal with it. Looks like I am going to lose another player over it. Some cannot accept the body count even when you let them know ahead of time. I just got accused of rejoicing over killing my wife's character! Heck, I was just glad to have confirmed a crit after really crappy dice rolls all night! I knew they would raise her so I was not worried. Heck, she is always getting her characters killed due to how she plays her characters. Her favorite character was in 3.0 and set the club record for club for deaths.

@KaiserDM I am afraid that well is dry currently with my players after SOA and the Dwarven Forge kickstarters. I have already told them I am not going to ask for money on this one. I would love to see the color area map also!

I have some technical questions for the Frogs:

Are you guys reviewing the old NG boards for errata on this while in edit and layout? (Ex: Missing doors on the 2nd level map, wrong names for NPCs in different spots, etc)

Also this is kind of a strange one - in RA you had to substitute a few creatures because they were not open content - such as Mind Flayers and Umber Hulks.

So I have a question about a creature type featured in LCoB:

Creature:
Grimlocks.

Now technically these are open content but I think they were overlooked during the creation of ToHC because they were already stated for D&D by WotC.

They appear in the 3.5 MM, and they are listed on the 3.5 SRD - so they are open. PF decided to stat up Morlocks instead of Grimlocks (since those were based of off the HG Wells race anyway) while the original Grimlocks were left to languish in the change from D&D to PF.

So my question is this - do the critters from the original Fiend Folio get the FGG treatment and PF update or were you planning on substituting them with Paizo's Morlocks? Or something else?

Bill,

I just got the Kickstarter notice #11 and it says RA is being taken down and re-priced. Is that the actual dungeon hardcover book or what? I don't really understand how the product is sold since I see things like "Hardcover", "Subscription", and a description of multiple books of Rappan Athuk.

Publisher, Frog God Games

Mark--its the subscription service we tried (and really failed) to d--the hardcover subscription supplemental books are done now--and off to press soon. The main book is different-the subscription adds extra material.

I do not like to assume things, so I will ask: Is this a message primarily aimed at folks that supported the RA Kickstarter with the add ons for the subscriptions and those folks that may have taken the opportunity to also pick up those subscriptions off the website? I had intended to pick them up at the conclusion of this KS, but I had thought that had not happened yet so I am a bit confused by the release of the message through this KS (cause I am probably one of the few that missed the RA kickstarter, to my everlasting chagrin).

Got it. That being said, DOES FGG have any RA hardcovers still lying around? If not I'm out of luck but if so, please understand I'll be picking one up with the survey.

In the meantime thank you for explaining this and being so excellent at customer service. Having been in CS myself for almost 20 years it's the thing I probably pay the most attention to when patronizing a business and FGG is really good on the communication piece. So much so they let their customers threadjack their Kickstarter posts... *looks away sheepishly*

Let's get those iconics!

The RA hardcover shows available at the website, but the frogs would have to confirm stock. I would not presume though that they would let the flagship of the company go out of stock! If and or when it is ever in danger of doing so I am ordering at least one extra copy!

RA is in stock-the only out of print victims are the softcover modules and Tome Complete for S&W.

The subscription goes on general sale for all too; may be already--at the corrected price. It will also be on then survey at retail.

Sorry to confuse--we just thought the books were going to cost a lot more to make--so we overcharged people--we felt obligated to make that right.

Good sir, I applaud you. If there were more people (and businesses) like you, this world would be a much better place.

Publisher, Frog God Games

Appreciate that. We value you guys a lot--you let us do this. So if we don't think we gave fair value--we want to fix that.

I didn't work on this one, so I can't really answer your questions (hopefully Bill or Skeeter will see this), but as useless as my response is as a result, I did want to let you know that grimlocks have reappeared in Tome of Horrors 4. Don't know whether they'll use those or morlocks in this book, though. (See what I mean? USELESS!!) ;-)

Ill look at the file tonight, I dont have it in my email. I know the S&W version has grimlocks.

And yes, as much errata as we could find has been updated.

Yeah, TOH4 is the missing piece for me, I suppose if I had that book I could have made a better guess.

While Grimlocks are a bit redundant with Morlocks I would still keep them around, strangely enough just because they have some history in the game due to their genesis in the original Fiend Folio.

Man, can't believe that book came out over 30 years ago!

Thanks for the info guys.

Greg ST rocks! I can't wait to see what you guys pull together for the Vault of Larin Karr!

Publisher, Frog God Games

I actually like Tome 4 critters better than Tome 2 or 3 critters. Lots of Tome 4 stuff in Sword of Air.

Besides....it has Chuckey:)

Quick question. If I am a squire level backer on the KS, (PDF), does that mean I can only purchase PDF copies of the add-on maps on the backerkit?
Do you have to pledge at the hard copy level to be eligible to purchase physical copies of the maps?

You can order whatever you wish---we have to ad shipping if you do not already have a dead tree book is all

Now, I see that Rappan Athuk and Tsar are avail on the survey at $75 ea. I know you said RA hardcover was avail; I'm going to assume (probably needlessly) that ST is on the shelf at the warehouse too? My wife is going to kill me, but I haven't bought gaming books for, umm, about four years with one exception.

You think if I'm looking for resources and ideas on running megadungeons that owning Tsar, RA AND Barakus is kind of overkill?

Anyway we're REALLY close to the iconics at least. Rah Rah Ree; Kick em in the Knee! Rah Rah Rass; Kick em in the... OTHER knee! GO FROGS! Let's get those iconics, and maybe even the map!

Everything listed will be ready to ship at the same time as Barakus

Yeah Babe! It's beginning to look a lot like christmas....

Let's see 3 I have coming, have 5-19 already. Will probably pick up some S&W stuff at NTRPGCon and the Book of Dirty Tricks is coming with SoA so that pretty much leaves the Dunes for me. Although another copy of Tsar at 50% off is tempting! I might get CD though, not sure. I might wait for the coupon for that one.

Yeah so very tempted by an extra ST at that price, bargain! Really international shipping makes it not a sensible choie though

If you're already getting a hard copy of Barakus, isn't some of the shipping cost already factored into that delivery? (Totally assuming of course).

Go for it!

I'm considering starting a new checking account under the name "Here Frog God Games; take all my cash" but I don't know that it'll fit on the forms. I hope we make these last goals though.

Lol Mark, they pretty much already have all of mine so I know how you feel! Money well spent though:)

Publisher, Frog God Games

We have. $25 of shipping factored in for overseas and $5 for usa

haha seductor! But really it probably moves it from the 40 odd shipping to the 80 odd shipping it is so BIG!

We made it across the stretch goal for iconic characters, so just over $4k left to meet the last stretch goal for the full color region map. 35 hours left....we can do this!

$2,700 to go to the color map, and 22 hours left!

$2500 and 20 hours, no problems! :D

How close is close? You have been saying just get you close. I know we are not there yet, just curious if we end up a couple a hundred short.

Whew. That was a close one.
Pledged 55$ for the 40$ reward tier + 15$ bucks for the Hero Lab files. That is how the add-ons work, right? This is my first add-on to a KS...

Anyway, now to get back to my master plot of subversion and deception in order to convince FGG to do a mythic conversion/update to City of Brass :)
