Rise of the Runelords, Parts 4 & 6: Chronicle Questions

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/5

I'm now over half-way through GMing RotR, and I noticed a couple of odd things on the chronicles for the rest of the AP. I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on how to handle them:

Fortress of the Stone Giants
On the chronicle for Fortress of the Stone Giants, the text at the top says 'Select one of the two following boons and cross the other off your Chronicle sheet'. This is then followed by three boons. Is it intended that the player chooses one of the first two boons and gets the third one too, or is this a typo (likely a copy/paste error from the same text on the Burnt Offerings chronicle) and the player should choose just one of the three (the same as the previous two chapters)?

Spires of Xin Shalast
On the chronicle for Spires of Xin Shalast, one of the boons is that 'your Fame score increases to equal 6 × your character level (as though you had earned maximum prestige in each adventure up to this point).'

- Firstly, is the '6*level' calculation meant to keep things simple, as no PC could ever actually achieve this amount, or is it a (minor) mistake? A 17th-level PC with 48XP would have a maximum of 96 fame; if they had 50XP the maximum would still only be 100 fame, while this boon would give them 102 fame. I admit the differences would be relatively small when achieving this level.

- Secondly, does the character receive any additional prestige to match, or it it only the fame score that increases?

- Finally, does this boon take effect before or after the PC has applied the 3XP & 4 PP from the chronicle itself?

Looking at it now, I would say that players choose one of the top two, then earn the third if they discover and spend time in the place in question.

I can talk about why, but 6xlevel is 6xlevel.

You do gain Prestige. I can't really dig it up at the moment, but Mark Moreland clarified this back when sanctioned APs were first announced. It's somewhere in the blog thread that accompanied sanctioning.

I would imagine after.

Thanks.

Found it!

The non-AP (and highly successful) Pathfinder gains 2 Fame per scenario, and with 3 scenarios per level, gains 6 Fame per level.
With the modules the PCs have much less Fame, but having thwarted one of history's greatest villains in a mythical city of gold & jewels, they deserve to be as famous as anybody.
As for Prestige, I'd be interested too.
Funnily enough, a less successful Pathfinder gets a lot more from that than a successful one (and then likely has little use for it given the rules for spending prestige and this being the pinnacle of PFS achievement until a certain mythic AP gets approved.)

The problem is that Pathfinder Society agents do not gain any Fame going from "level 0 to level 1". But with this boon, you would have fame as if you had.

Exactly. And this contradicts the statement 'as though you had earned maximum prestige in each adventure up to this point', because it actually gives you more than that (if you believe the first statement overrides the second, and not vice versa).

It would be a lot clearer if the boon said: 'your Fame score increases to equal 2 × your number of XP (as though you had earned maximum prestige in each adventure up to this point).'

I dont see how that is confusing at all.

6 x level = 2 x Exp (that count towards whole levels).

You can never have more or less than 3 experience per level you have, so this should work out every single time. Are you reading something else into this?

It's not the same, actually, because you don't start with 6 fame.

Apologies for the thread derailment, but while we're on the topic of AP Chronicle credit, when dealing with chronicles awarded above level 9 for GM credit and credit applied to PFS characters from home campaign played pcs, can you apply that credit as level 1 credit to a fresh PFS character?

The field guide states that one can do this for pregens played, (Thus the <9 statement in the guide) but makes no mention whether this is acceptable for chronicles in the >9 range.

TL;DR Can I apply 3XP, 4PP, and 1,398 gold to a fresh level 1 PFS PC from a chronicle obtained in the greater than level 9 range.

Yes.
