Black Blade advice

Rise of the Runelords

Greetings to all!

Three weeks ago I've started with my players RotR Anniversary. Story short - the party has a magus with bladebound and hexcrafter archetype. He's currently at the borders of 3th level (guys are very lucky with "random monster encounters" that gave them a ton of extra exp). And we agreed, that he will find (or maybe not - depends on some perception checks for secret chambers) his black blade not immediately, but later. For his patience, I wanted to give him a better version of the blade, with some additional bonuses. But now I'm considering to add the Seven Swords of Sin (I've read that this can be a good addition) to the campaign arch of RotR.
So the question is - should I give him one of the sword (I'm thinking about the scimitar - Chellan, if I remember correct its name) to be his black blade? Or it will make him overpowered?

P.S. Sorry for my English. Not a native speaker.

And we have a spoiler right off the bat:

Spoiler:

Chellan is being wielded by Viorian in Book 6, so definitely a bad choice.

Ok, Chellan is out of the picture. But still, the main question remains - is it a bad idea to give a sword of sin to the magus, as a black blade?

So how is it best to put "Seven Swords of Sin" into the story? Which blades are being used in the campaign?

Spoiler:
If you plan on giving it to him before book 4 or 5, I would not do a sword of sin, they are way too powerful for lower level characters, if later then I would see what blade suits him best.

Personally I would make my own sword to give to him, and I quite enjoy the heartripper blade powers, you could give him one with those.

Yeah, I thought to give the sword-black blade to magus, when the party would make their way to the Thisletop dungeons. Found in secret chambers, with other treasure there. And between Skinsaw Murders and Hook Mountain Massacre to start Seven Swords of Sin arch. At the end of it, I think they will be at level 11-12.
Maybe limit the sword's power until the SSoS arch? I haven't read it closely yet, but there was something about awakening the swords power by the main villain. Until that, it can be like a bit unusual black blade. Or it still sounds like a bad idea to give it?

Just in case:

I would probably make it a regular black blade, but also have it start to represent some of the sins that the character is exhibiting. If s/he's acting repeatedly wrathful: I'd have the sword start to take on a shape and personality in line with that.

After the character gets to the Runeforge, you can let them "reforge" the weapon into a Weapon of Sin. Perhaps stating that's how the original weapons of sin were forged.

Dark Archive

Spoiler:

Why not give it to Nualia? Always nice to get it from a boss encounter.

As for having it be a Sin Sword? Well, per the write up, Chellan was pretty mundane until Karzoug woke up.

It would be pretty interesting to have the sword grow in power as Karzoug does.

I was thinking that also...have it's abilities develop and unlock as the PC levels up. Just remember that this PC will never need to spend money on his weapon....make sure that you adjust accordingly or you will see him get overpaid and have better equipment than others in the group...

maybe you could make it a ritual that costs a certain amount (equal to the price or a 50-75% of the price)of the unlocked feature.

I'll do something. We've been rolling for traits and drawbacks, using the back story random generator from Ultimate Campaign, and for the last he got hedonism. I think, Chellan will greatly increase some of his drawback desires, which will get him spending a lot of money.
