Greensting Slayer and Arcane Trickster

Rules Questions

Can use the Greensting Slayer magus archetype's augmented arcane pool ability, which grants sneak attack if you spend an arcane point, to qualify for the 2d6 sneak attack prerequisite of the Arcane Trickster?

Greensting Slayer, from Bastards of Golarion

You can't meet prereqs with impermanent abilities. The Greensting magus' arcane pool ability does not qualify you for arcane trickster.

The Exchange

I would strongly disagree, the greensting slayer gains the sneak attack ability and always has it. That's like saying that since a rogue isn't flanking he can use any ability or feat based off having sneak attack. I'd check with your dm, not a message board...

I would also say that it counts.

just like a wizard who can cast dimension door doesn't lose the dimensional dervish line of feats because they didn't prep the spell for that day.

But he doesn't always have it -- he's got it only if he spends an arcane pool point.

Agree with Zahmahkibo this doesn't fly.

the class feature has to be spelled out by name. so he doesn't actually have sneak attack he has an arcane pool ability that gives him sneak attack damage to his attacks.

so no it doesn't work

right but in this instance he still qualifies for the feat by being "able to cast dimension door or..."

Two questions:

1) Why do you want to go arcane trickster?

2) Is this for PFS or a Con game, or just regular/home play?

The Exchange

This is a total "Duck" ruling. It works.

Another thing about the greensting slayer: if you have a level of rogue and one of the greensting slayer, can you use the rogue's way of getting the damage (flanking or flatfooted) with the combined damage (2d6)? The archetype says the sneak attacks dice stack, but that could only be for the pool-powered strike, which would mean 1d6 normally and 2d6 after spending.

Pretty confusing...
