Right on.
The horns quiet down a bit.
The eight guys who just stepped out of the bar walk up to the pyre near Edwin.
"Light her up!" one says; "we've some barbequeueing to do!"
Almost half the mob around the wagon walks over towards the adventurers in front of the now open gate to the courtyard.
They have makeshift weaponry, torches, and now working vuvuzelas.
Another 8 guys show up in the east road into the square.
Group's turn!!!!!!
Edwin Drood |
Uh oh. Getting crowded over here. :(
Edwin's eyes narrow as the crowd forges forward. He glances over his shoulder, then grins at the outspoken one in the crowd.
'Gotcha sucker!' He thinks, quite pleased with himself.
"Light. Her. Up?" he asks in a calm, eerie voice.
He shrugs.
"As you wish."
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Hrm, Ed realizes that was less his best bluff. Let's try a performance:Oratory with that for a better result? :)
Performance:Oratory: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Realizing that he does not, yet, have their full attention, Edwin begins intoning, adapting an old favorite ballad on the fly. With mixed results.
"Fire you have asked for! And fire you shall have! Whether tis' better to burn upon the fire of the pyre, or rather to suffer the sparks and scorches of righteous indignation, we shall have fire!" He cries, gathering their attention.
"We yearn for justice! We Burn for vengeance! But beware the burning desire for vengeance. For while the flames of justice may burn with righteous purity, they do not discriminate, and will burn the hand that holds them! Be SURE of yourselves! Be SURE that what you seek is true! DO you seek JUSTICE? Or do you seek REVENGE? For fear and hatred will only harm the ones who seek it. If you seek JUSTICE, leave now, and come to the courthouse tomorrow."
"If you seek only vengeance, or worse, then beware! For the flames of JUSTICE burn the dark of heart with a fury most fearful! Beware the righteous flames! Let those who are without dark deeds, shameful secrets cast not the first torch! Lest they burn YOU instead!"
And Edwin makes several arcane gestures, turns in a slow circle with an arm outstretched, holding the other to his head as if following an arcane signal,... or a voice in his head.
He stops turning when he faces the open gate, and points an arm at,... Larissa!
"Do YOU fear judgement woman!?" He howls with ecclesiastic glee.
"The fire has chosen,... YOU! Let us see how you answer it's call!" He cries, and makes another gesture, and a small sprinkling of glowing motes appear and flutter down to land on Larissa's shoulder.
'C'mon,... C'mon,... work with me!' Edwin peers wide-eyed at Larissa.
This is either going to be an epic performance in a Broadway show, or the biggest flop in history. ;P
N´Kai Sureblade |
"Leik, please detonate one of the torches of the gentlemen surrounding the beer wagon. We should be able to tackle the rest of them, specially if you get some of the ones near Edwin. Oh, and try not to blind our fellow detective..." N´Kai winks to the bug-man.
N´Kai will wait for Leik´s spell effect to take place, then make his move
Larissa Brightfoot |
Larissa's eyes grow large and her hair begins to move of its own volition as she realizes that Edwin is pointing at her, asking her to ... burn?
With what she hopes is an anguished scream, she throws her head back and the golden-white flames of her gift begin to "consume" her and she flees the scene, running into the building. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I NEED WATER! WATER! PLEASE!"
Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Edwin, I think the dicebot likes you.
Melodramatic seems appropriate. She will run far enough to be out of sight before dismissing the flames and seeking out a cloak to cover herself with. Won't do to suddenly be unsinged if someone sees her.
Leik Fire |
Leik takes the biggest source of fire and turns it into a fireworks show.
Fireworks: The fire is turned into a blinding display of fireworks; a flashing, fiery, momentary burst of glowing, colored aerial lights. This effect causes creatures within 120 feet of the fire source to become blinded for 1d4+1 rounds (Will negates, DC 10 + ½ class level + Charisma modifier). These creatures must have line of sight to the fire to be affected. Power resistance can prevent blindness.
So the DC is only 12, and here goes for turns of blindness: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
after the BOOM he manifests a WHIP OF FLAME and charges it with pyrokinetic energy.
Aethorduil Faelaiien |
Thats it... I am going to have to seriously hurt someone
He waits for the crowd to be awed or distracted by the fire works before charging through the crowd towards the grappled bard.
Cant get the map

"m's" that are red squares have torches that will work for your power.
You have to be within 25 feet of them as well.
Leik Fire |
I'll be in AD18 and blow up the closest torch. He will yell "Flaaaaaaameee!" first so maybe, hopefully, the heroes will close their eyes for a second. but the DC IS only 12, and they're heroes. even the closest torch, with a radius of 120ft on the effect, will firework the whole map.
dungeonmaster heathy |
Fireworks blow up on the torch wielded at AB 21.
Will saves for everybody but Larissa, dc 12, or you're affected as well for 5 rounds. I think Leik's immune, but needs to proffer proof of such.
Quite a few of the assembled crowd get blinded. And the horses aren't happy at all.
Nev, Aethor, and Rholfy are up to bat.

Let me say at this point that, unless you do not have "line of sight," you need to make a savings throw. When you make your savings throw, that means you "closed your eyes for a second."
I could've reasonably given two of Edwin's grapplers forgiveness from line of sight because it's just common sense that if they're grappling Edwin, chances are they have their backs turned to the fireworks.
I did not do this. They made or failed their saves.
Aethorduil Faelaiien |
Aethor will 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
The elf charges through the thong and gives on of the men grappling the erstwhile lawyer a boot in the head, hopefully breaking the grapple.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Rholf Kastigarr |
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
I'm assuming that the "b" in AC23 is an aggressor. If not, let me know, please.
Rholf trots forward, drawing his warhammer, shield at the ready. At the last second, he quickly changes direction, engaging one of the men attacking Edwin. (The aforementioned AC23, placing me in AD23)
+1 Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
N´Kai Sureblade |
N´Kai joins Rholf and Edwin in the melee frontline, drawing his scimitar with one hand as a myriad of color sprays from the fingertips of the other towards the mob
Move to AD22, cast Color Spray defensively. Should affect the guy in AC22 and everyone in the AA21 to AB23 area. DC 14 or be knocked unconscious, blinded and stunned...
concentration: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
unconsciousrounds: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
blinded rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Edwin Drood |
Will Save vs Fireworks: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Edwin, being covered as he is by mountain of beer-smelling flesh at the moment, easily avoids the flash of the pyrotechnics.
Hearing the sounds of the torch bursting into flame, Edwin wriggles, trying to get out from under the men,...
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Yay! The dice like me again! :)
dungeonmaster heathy |
They push on through to the courtyard, and some are into the jail.
Leik, Larissa, and N'kai can aoo one to however many of them if they have the right feat.
The horses bolt, and crash horribly into the pyre. The big barrel rolls off of the wagon, and crushes some guys that Leik blinded.
The horses trample a couple guys as well.
Leik gets attacked by one guy and he misses.
Group's attack.
Edwin is not grappled.
dungeonmaster heathy |
Sorry, I guess I got a turn off. ;P
"Oh, this can't be good." Edwin mutters as the horses crash and people get injured.
"We have to get these people away from here.""Run for your lives!" He screams, "Run! Get Away!"
Diplomacy: 1d20+11
All the new guys hear that and skeedaddle. The guys underway, though, keep coming. You got rid of 6 of them anyway.
