Magister Proficiencies?

Product Discussion

Looking at the list of Proficiencies for Super Genius Games' Magister, one entry is 'light weapons'. This can't be right, can it? That would include light exotic weapons, which seems out of whack.

Is it supposed to be 'light crossbows'?

From the Magister PDF (Revised version)

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Mastering two sources of magic leaves little time for weapon training—a magister is proficient with only the club, dagger, light crossbow, and quarterstaff. A magister is also proficient with light armor, but not with any shields. Due to her mix of arcane and divine power sources, a magister can cast class spells while wearing light armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance (even if casting a spell from an arcane spell list). However, a magister wearing medium or heavy armor incurs a chance of spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component (even if casting a spell from a divine spell list). A multiclass magister still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells she casts as another class.

Zhayne, where did you get the proficiency list you were looking at?

I'm guessing it was from d20pfsrd.com which did not have the new proficiency list. I don't think most of the rest of the class there has been updated to the revised Magister, but I did go in and fix the weapon and armor proficiency section.

(also, I noticed that in the revised PDF, the spells known table says "Magus Spells Known" instead of "Magister's Spells Known".)

Pathfinder Maps, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

No, the d20pfsrd.com site has the update -- although I do seem to recall seeing it earlier with the original text and a suggested correction. So either somebody is still carrying the unrevised version of the Magister/Magus PDF, or Zhayne has a very old copy that he only recently got around to reading.

(It had the old wording yesterday when I saw Zhayne's post. I went in and fixed that section, but have not gone through and checked that everything else is updated.)

Yeah, it was from the d20pfsrd site.

I've now fully updated the d20pfsrd.com site to the Revised version.

Thanks, Caedwyr!

I have absolutely no objection to my work being on the site -- I am a big fan of d20pfsrd.com, despite obviously hoping folks eventually buy the pdf of such materials -- but I'm not able to take time to put Genius work up there myself, so I'm never up to speed on what might be behind the most recent update.

On a semi-related note, Some of the Genius works have been coded up for PCGen, which has made them more appealing to my local gaming group :) Hopefully that leads to more sales as well. Although, they still list everything as property of 'Super Genius Games', instead of 'Rogue Genius'. But at least I can use them with a couple groups I game with now...

I'm definitely going to pick up this PDF as soon as I can. I am not exaggerating when I say the Magister may be the only full-caster class I will ever need again.
