I hate to say it, but I see a lot of similiarities between Dune and GOT. It's clear Martin is a SFi/Fi fan, so it would not surrpise me that Dune's story would have had elements drawn out into his own works.

If so, the War of the Roses inspired Dune as well. I honestly see no problem with that, though.

It's heretical to say this, but I think a Dune series based on the Butlerian Jihad or house Corrino timelines would be much better than anything dealing with Herbert's original books. The miniseries for Dune and Children of Dune were well done of know as well known as the Lynch movie, and we don't need another remake of that story. God-Emperor of Dune and after became incoherent and would be a boring show. But the early timeline stuff would make a great show.
