Rise of the Runelords

Looked around the forums in a search, couldn't find a similar question. Maybe I missed it, but....

Spoiler:
How would Nualia React to another good alligned aasimar in the players party? the player wants to at least have some roleplaying fun with it, but I'm not sure how exactly to handle it. I think she's too far down the rabbit hole of Lamashtu to redeem herself, but would she tolerate a dialogue after having her forces all killed?

Personally I think Nualia would act with disgust towards the fellow aasimar as it is something she dispises about herself. Roleplaying wise that could lead to attacking that character primarily, insults, an offer to assist in turning them as well, or dying words about how their kind are only freaks to others.

I had a player bring out an Aasimar Oracle. I played up the superstitious nature of the townsfolk, so that more than anyone, he would understand what Nualia went through. He changed characters before we got to Thistletop, but my plan was for her to insist that he would understand why Sandpoint needed to burn. When he turned her down, she would basically write him off as weak and disgusting, and she would attack him first to sacrifice him to Lamashtu.

I've been playing up the superstitious nature of the town, and even had some of her story given to the pcs through a dialogue. (not more than I thought the npc would know though...he didn't even realize she was still alive while relaying the tale) I will definitely take the advice here, but my one concern is that the player made a very defensive armored character, and without Nualias stats memorized, I feel like it would make the fight way easier. I'm pretty sure Nualia is smarter than to just wail on someone she couldn't harm though, so I'll likely play it by ear. If anyone else wants to offer advice as well, I'm happy to hear it.

I basically have a problem balancing what makes sense for the character to do and trying to keep things challenging and epic.

I'm not even sure Nualia knows what an aasimar is. Based on the backstory her parents and origins are unknown. She might recognize another aasimar as similarly cursed but Nualia is completely whacked in the head and self-absorbed. I don't see how she would have any empathy or otherwise give a crap about anyone else. She used sex to manipulate another of Sandpoint's disaffected losers to steal her adopted father's bones so she could burn them in offering to a Demon Goddess so she could become a Fiend and then sent him back to town to kill his own father and kidnap his sister. I'm not seeing a lot of good conversation starters with her.

You might do all kinds of tactical things with Nualia as the leader of the forces in Thistletop but the AP as written doesn't leave a lot of room for role-playing or dialogue-based interaction with her. As soon as they encounter her both Nualia and the PC's are going to be in kill or be killed mode. Diplomacy is probably not an option.

I see things as Latrecis. Tecnically speaking, Nualia is 25 year old with the mentality of a 12-13, since his species live long like elves and that means a longer mental infancy.

The encounter between another aasimar (if such recognition is possible vis a vis) should be not important if that character don't try to approach her in any way.

About Nualias tactis, she's been instructed by a 10.000 old quasit! She has many tricks. In my game she's an Antipaladin/cleric that uses the angel-blood powers od disguise self to shapeshift herself into a "lamashtu like" being and actively tries to kill people in the temple of Sandpoint way before anyone tries to go to the goblin dungeon, using her Yeth Hounds to fly over the city and escape. Shoul she now before their encounter of the mere existence of an aasimar in she may well try to go to the city by night and kill him/her.

They're busy retconning the longevity of Aasimar. They live as long as humans now (or at the very least mature as quickly as humans).

I like slayer of gellcor's answer here - have Nualia play the "we're not so different, you and I" card during the fight on the aasimar. Play up the constant problems that plagued Nualia - the folk of Sandpoint think the girl had heavenly powers just because of her ancestry, and I doubt they've learned any different in the intervening five years. Have the character all but accosted during the festival. Have people begging them to lay hands upon their sick child, especially if they're not in any position to heal the kid. Have a desperate mother grab a handful of the character's hair and slice it off with a knife - her husband has a lung infection, and peasant superstition holds this would help. Basically, give them the experience that Nualia had for her whole childhood so the PC can understand what she's going through.
