Honor Harrington movie and more

Shadow Lodge

I heard rumors that David Weber's character Honor Harrington was going to be made into some movies and possibly a TV series, maybe other stuff like comic series.

Anyone else hear anything about this?

You might want to check out the Forums at David Weber's own site.

Yes it is happening along with Comic Books from Top Cow from Next month and various other stuff.

There could be an Honorverse Explosion over the next couple of years.

I can't find anything about a film version. Has it been optioned by a studio, is there a screenwriter and director attached, or is it all wishful thinking at this stage?

Look in the Honorverse forum at the Weber Site then go to the Evergreen Studios Sub Forum to find the details about the movie.

I post as Highlander1960 on the Weber Boards and I warn you the debates can get a little heated.

I should check it out..although if the debates are about which Treecat is the cutest I won't stay long.

I actually prefer the newer stuff he has done with Eric flint..if they start with Basilik Station it I might actually get to read GRRM 's book 7 of Ice and fire before I see Torch of Freedom on screen.

As long as they do the ships right.
The entire series depends on Weber's explanation for how things work.

If they don't have impellers, pods, the sails, etc. it'll be a damn shame.

Hmm. A rights development company are on board and they are trying to get a script off the ground, have managed to get a comic out and are planning a mobile game. No studio, reputable screenwriter or director are attached. They have had some success, getting the WALKING WITH DINOSAURS movie made, but otherwise they sound more than a little bit like Red Eagle Entertainment, who did a similar thing for WHEEL OF TIME and promptly failed to get anything made competently at all.

One thing that is eyebrow-raising is their suggestion that they are establishing what the ships look like for the movie via the game and comics. Whatever studio and director come on board will bring their own graphic designers with them as well, and they will decide those things. This is one of the reasons why a WH40K movie hasn't happened (yet), because Games Workshop don't want to change their existing designs one iota and Hollywood studios will only work on a project where they have free reign to change things if they want.

ETA: They're going to adapt the second book first, and will use BASILISK STATION for flashbacks later on.

Yeah...I am not convinced this will ever get off the ground, at least not as a major movie release.

I received no impression that the company is all that experienced in producing movies. Whats more a movie like this, if done as live action, would require a substanstial budget, which is going to require big studio involvement, or at least support from a prominent director or actor interested in it.
