Did this paladin fall?

So my player is running a Paladin, he's a pretty nice guy. Does a lot of good for the community, but I know he could be doing more. And this makes me angry since he's not living up to the perfect standards of what I believe for the class, so I've got a bit of an axe to grind.

So he's scouting for the party in the woods, and ahead of him is a pretty well hidden pit trap. He doesn't spot it, so he can't avoid it. The reflex save is DC 25, and he in total gets a 25.

So I came here to ask you people of the boards: Did this paladin fall...into a pit and take 2d6 falling damage?

What a silly question. No, obviously not; you have to meet the DC, not beat it.

*slow clap*

Well, falling into a bit isn't in the paladin code... probably err on the side of taking away his powers. No smite for you!!!!

A corollary: Can he smite the pit as an AoO before he falls after he falls?

of course he fell... into the deepest darkest pits of hellfire and damnation!

We already know now by the posts on the board that every Paladin not only has to measure up to what his Code is, and his deity wants, but the modern day morality and ethics of every poster on this board.

Thus, they have all fallen. Golarion is inhabited by roving tribes of anti-paladins.

If there's a reverse gravity trap at the bottom of the pit, does it still count as a fall?

Not only did he fall, but my paladin fell, just reading the thread.

This tickles me like a stirge sucking the marrow from a gelatinous cube's humorous.

Dark Archive

The paladin must now exchange its levels for antipaladin levels due to donating only 75% of his total earnings to an orphanage, rather than all of it. ... All the pit did was make it chaotic evil to facilitate this.

On that note, a Merfolk should never be allowed as a Paladin, because they can't fall if someone tries to trip them.

Shhh! My DM's not going to let me keep playing my giant centipede paladin if he figures that out!

Did you hear about the Paladin that lost his powers? Yeah, it all happened after he and his deity...

*Sunglasses*

He will ascend!

Until he's out of reach of the spell. And then fall again. And then ascend again.....

All paladins should include a bungee cord as part of their standard equipment.

Also, little known fact, shouting "WHEEEEEEEE" actually doubles the divine grace bonus in such situations.

When falling down a pit yelling "Oh SHIIIIII*thud*" gives you a second saving throw.

True story.

Sovereign Court

What a paladin with the Fly spell? Obviously he can't Fall during the duration, but if he's still airborne at the end of it, and the Feather Fall clause triggers. Does that mean he gradually loses powers, instead of all at once?

What about a paladin in reverse gravity? Does it have any bearing that he's falling up?

We need an FAQ to ban Paladin from taking an Oracle level for Lure of the Heavens, asap.

It's reverse falling, one of the lesser known system bugs. S/he gets even more powers when acting out of alignment.

Another piece of essential Paladin equipment

Also, paladins are totally op in zero gravity environments :) .

Only if there was someone around to hear if he made a noise.

Kudo to you sir.

When I first read this I was like "the hell is this guy talking about".

Then I read the other post...

If a paladin falls, does he go down a level in the dungeon?

BOOOOOOOOOO GET OFF THE STAGE

No, why would he want to be energy drained? He goes up a level from getting roleplay XP.

Well done. Everytime I see one of these threads, I answer "No" before I even open it. If you have to ask, the paladin didn't fall.

How dare you, this is a serious topic about my paladin's stability. You shouldn't just brush it off!

The DC set was 25 and he met that upon his dice roll. That means the Paladin succeeded in his effort to avoid the trap. That's the bottom line. It doesn't matter if the Paladin was following his code of ethics or not. That is irreverent to the issue.

Paladin are paragons
They should not only meet expectations but exceed them

So while one minor fail is no reason for him to fall , he should at least show repentance and wows never to do it again
