The FAQ lists as the only poisons from the Core Rulebook which are always available to those select classes who use poison as:
Giant wasp poison
Large scorpion venom
Medium spider venom
Shadow essence
Small centipede poison
The Additional Resources, under Ultimate Equipment, says that the list of always available poisons to those same classes is:
black adder venom, bloodroot, giant wasp poison, greenblood oil, large scorpion venom, malyass root paste, Medium spider venom, nitharit, shadow essence, small centipede poison, terinav root.
I am assuming that the more inclusive list from Additional Resources is the correct list, but the FAQ should be updated to reflect this.

Addtional Resources expand upon the list of poisons.
Rival Guide and some Race equipment from advanced Race guide also adds some to that list.

FAQ says these are the only poisons from the Core Rulebook that are always available.
Additional Resources lists a bunch of poisons that are always available, ALL OF WHICH are from the Core Rulebook.
Edit: to put it another way, must someone own Ultimate Equipment to use a poison that is listed in the Core Rulebook? (Such as: black adder venom, bloodroot, greenblood oil, malyass root paste, nitharit, shadow essence, terinav root).

Oh..no, The ones in the Core book that are listed in the FAQ are always available. All others in the Additional Resources you need to own the book.

Let me try again, because I'm still confused. (You answer the question "no" and your explanation says "yes".)
According to additional resources, black adder venom is always available. Black adder venom is in the Core Rulebook. The FAQ omits black adder venom from the list of poisons that are always available.
Is black adder venom always available? If so, can I use it from the Core Rulebook? The listing in the Core Rulebook is identical to the listing in Ultimate Equipment.
Dragnmoon |
Because the FAQ omits it it is not available from the core oddly. You need to own UE to Use it.
Though it may be an oversight by Mike.

Just something I didn't catch because it was an FAQ written before I took the job. Black Adder Venom is always available and may be used from the CRB.
Mike, may I assume the same is true for all of the other poisons that are listed under Ultimate Equipment in the Additional Resources? EVERY one of them is a poison that also appears in the CRB.
(Though one of them, I forget which, has a stronger effect in UE than in the CRB in that it adds Unconscious as an effect—so using the CRB version is less powerful. The others are all identical.)

Any poison that appears in both is useable by bringing either book to the table. If a poison only appears in UE, you must own it of course.

Thank you. That was my initial assumption. I will notify the player who asked me; she will be pleased.
